I hear people saying how unreliable Land Rover is. I have owned 2 Evoques and now have the Defender 90 V8. No problems and I absolutely love it. Absolute joy to drive. Worth every penny to me.
@@JohnSmith-me2wg I actually do research before I purchase a vehicle so I would never buy a JLR vehicle but a college at work purchased a Defender when they first came out and within the first 15,000 miles it suffered HVAC transmission and several electrical problems. JLR has NEVER produced a reliable vehicle and a "FANBOY" claiming that they are comparable to a Lexus in that regard isn't going to change anyone's mind. Whenever a comment about the reliability shows up there's always a couple people claiming how reliable and trouble-free they are. Unicorns do exist and a certain percentage of people may have a trouble-free vehicle but it certainly doesn't reflect the overall ownership of experience of a majority of owners. The chairman of the company recently announced that they lose approximately 100,000 sales a year because of their reputation. Their poor resale value also shows that the general public has a low opinion of them.
Off road these are awesome! This is a very nice car. Unfortunately if prior reliability remains consistent, follow this with a tow truck. I’d love three of these! (Spares)

It did get to the humorous point when I realized I was taking my 20 year old Mitsubishi Montero LTD for household trips as I was just sick of the Range Rover’s breakdowns. I’m not joking, loved it, beautiful, rode great, off-roading was a blast… but it got to the point where I was apprehensive about taking it to the store. Every shop visit had to be scheduled, half a day getting it there, half a day picking it up, 2+ days with the car OOS. The time wasted alone would have paid for another car.
This V8 sounds great honestly. Great off road vehicle. I saw Mat Watson with this car and drag racing it against a Mercedes-AMG G63, a Jeep Wrangler with the Hemi V8, and for some reason, a BMW X7 M50i xD But this car is great for what it provides.
I test drove a base Audi E-Tron GT a few months back and after zipping around a bit, the sales lady was gushing "see how the instant torque of an EV feels?" The whole time I was thinking "this feels just like my 2011 Jag XJ Supercharged----I squeeze blood into my big toe and it just takes off like a rocket". The people that gushed about EV "instant torque" a few years ago never had a supercharged V8----most of them were coming from a Prius or Leaf or 3-Series or something.
Pretty quick and fantastic off roader. In Africa, most farmers who liveoff the beaten track own one. This specific model is not very practical if you have a family because cabin space is a bit tight. More of a fun weekend SUV. As far as reliability is concerned, land rover has not been known to be the best.....just saying
Love this V8 and enjoy it while you can. That said, the wheels and paint makes this un-off road worthy, and that’s inexcusable for Land Rover. The interior I find elegantly minimalist. I still would do the I-6 with more sensible wheels.
OMG when you got in that back seat with the camera and had to put your leg up that high you made my hip Hurt.lol .. Looked painful climbing back there.
I love the 5.0 supercharged V8, its not like JLR are gonna develop another V8 just for the higher performance variations of their SUVs like this Defender 90 p525. They're more likely to use something from BMWs arsenal like with the new range rovers.
Honestly wish I could get an exhaust particulate filter for my 2002 Prius. It's not a screaming engine, and that would just make it even cleaner than it already is...

I had a 2 door Defender pull up next to me last week here in Vegas - Gave me a thumbs down as he apparently didn't approve of my Bronco. I just smiled and shook my head.

I like how every reviewer opens the hood to show the V8 but all there is is a plastic tray. Uninspiring at this price. Also, every reviewer likes to point out the Defender letters on the hood for some reason. However, no reviewer ever describes the F/R torque split. For example, the Grand Cherokee SRT defaulted to 35/65 but could only shift to 50/50, I believe. Also, surprised no LSD up front at this price. I think the Defender is very cool, but it's way too much money, and mpg is abysmal.
if I were lucky to win the lottery I would buy one of these just in case I go back to poor I have a off roader to live in... have anyone been too poor to earn that wealth....LOL
A very outdated and ridiculous vehicle. Rated at 15mpg city - so that means, in the real world, it will get 12mpg city. But the people that will buy this car don't care about gas prices. Gas would have to get to $15 per gal form them to even take notice. That said, I would love to beat this thing at my local off-road park - until it breaks down anyway (about an hour?).
LANDROVER has decided to FIX THE UNRELIABILITY of the new defender by RETIRING THE NAME 'DEFENDER' and calling it the 'MOUNTBATTEN' as everybody knows it will end with A LOUD BANG and then a long search for bits.
Coz people have to find some criticism to bandwagon and over emphasize. They good cars come with warranty, if have means buy one without hesitation and enjoy la vida!
Its because Land Rover is an upscale make marketed for the upscale consumer. Most affluent people don’t care much about reliability because they can afford to get a new car every few years. Normal people who aren’t well off, can’t afford new cars every few years so we expect & demand reliability because they are expected to last. This forces some makers to focus on improving on current product in oppose to focusing on advancement. Ever notice how the most reliable model of cars tend to be outdated in terms of tech, performance but the least reliable ones tend to be the most up to-date & frequently updated when it comes to tech, design & performance.

This V8 sounds great honestly. Great off road vehicle. I saw Mat Watson with this car and drag racing it against a Mercedes-AMG G63, a Jeep Wrangler with the Hemi V8, and for some reason, a BMW X7 M50i xD But this car is great for what it provides.
Loved my '22MY 90 S, best car I ever owned. Ordered a '23.5MY 130 SE, and can't wait as it's my dream car.

If you pay a bit extra it comes with it’s own tow truck so you can tow it back to the dealership every time it breaks down

No. Go for Mercedes G550. If 110 and v8
you have the suspension on the middle setting. it will squat down lower and have less body roll if you lower it......

Land Rover probably put the V8 into it so you can get to your destination as fast as possible before having to take it to the dealer service bay.
