Mark you are my hero! I love you, blasphemy is correct! Funniest take ever, thanks for including that!
Great narrative content! Really enjoying it.
I came here this morning for the gear discussion, but I left smiling for the wildlife narration. I appreciate the way you approach wildlife photography Mark Smith.
Thanks for watching
Now please review Nikon 180-600mm & also comparison with Sony 200-600mm...🙏🏼
Thanks!
Without a doubt I find you the most entertaining person on TH-cam. Oh and by the way you also have some great info in terms of wildlife and camera gear.
Thank you
Wow, thank you! I appreciate that.
got my Z9 last week, tried the 200600G on it for a bird shoot, I am very happy with the result. Hopefully 200600z lens will come out soon to compare side by side. Other lenses works well with ETZ21+Z9, such as 50GM, 14GM. Its never an apple for apples comparison as the bodies are different too. great video!
Hey! So you should have had a couple of months with this adapter at this point. Could you maybe give me an update about how well it all works compared to using these Sony lenses on Sony bodies? I’ll be upgrading from Fujifilm to Full frame so I have a fresh start. I am tempted to buy into the Sony ecosystem solely because of the huge variety of first and third party lenses but I’m terms of camera bodies I’d love to buy the Z9. Nikons lenses are by no means bad but I’d just like to use Sony lenses like the 14mm f1.8 and if you can actually not feel a difference if you’re using these Sony lenses on Sony bodies or on the Z9 I’d probably rather buy the Z9 and Sony lenses to go with it. I’d really appreciate a reply. Thank you so much in advance! Greetings from Germany 😊
@@jonasgillmann Hi Jonas, Greetings from New Zealand. I ended up selling the 200600 to get the nikon 400 4.5, its a much lighter setup which was the main reason. Sony does have a large selection of lenses+ third parties and their new generation GM2 lenses are amazing, not that expensive too when you find a sale or deal. Nikon on the other hand have amazing telephotos but not so much primes such as 1.4 series. My only lens for now is the 14GM 1.8,as I use this lens for either astro or real estate, I dont see much down side for AF or IQ. ETZ21 is more like a bridging tool for people slowly moving from Sony to Nikon. If you are doing commercial work and need reliability its better to stick with native lenses. Lens performance also depends on the body, i.e. 200600 on A1 is performs better than on the Z9. It comes down to your budget and purpose I guess, with that said I know people who are using Z9+GM2 lenses and they are loving it, so in short it works, but if there is a equivalent Z lens, Z will preform just very slightly, better.
thanks so much! I heard the adapter adds a 1-2 second power-on delay (like it takes an extra 2 seconds before you can focus and take a photograph). Has that been your experience? @@firstwave8855 @marksmithphotography
Good to hear you have a video guide for A1 coming. Stay well.
Welcome back… Have been missing your content since your fox video… Keep creating and inspiring…
Also I think it’s just like when Sony came out with their mirrorless and there were adapters for canon and Nikon, which in the beginning didn’t work good, but improved overtime… I would say a 60-70 for an adapter is quite nice…
Appreciate your honest, critical evaluation/experience. For me, the Megadap ETZ21 is still worth it. I'd be using it to adapt the Tamron 35-150mm (if it'd ever get back in stock lol) [+ 12-24mm 2.8] for Travel/Lifestyle/Landscape/Astro.
None of those really call for fast-acting focus. So if it lags a bit compared to my native F & Z lenses on my ℤ9, it'll be fine for my use.
I have had the 35-150 on order forever then it popped up on Amazon
I have a 35-150 Tamron on my shelf at Wyoming Camera outfitters in Jackson Wyoming. Look my number up and call if your interested!
I love your narration and choice of music. Of course, the photos an the video are exceptional too! Great video that automatically led me to the subscribe button :)
Thank you for the info. Your wealth of knowledge and experience is highly valuable to us mortals.
lol, Happy to help!
thanks for this Mark. much appreciated by this loyal Nikon guy
My pleasure
Not sure if it’s TH-cam or the adapter but I’m getting some weird effects showing on this video….
Looks like corrupted upload
Same here. MacOS / Safari.
Thanks for testing the adapter
I have the Megadap ETZ-11 adapter and have been using the Sony E mount lenses for awhile. Great glass on all Nikon cameras. Better for the consumer and the wallet. Stay Safe and Keep Smiling! Cheers!
Thanks for the info!
Great video. Thanks for all the info. Hello from England 🏴
Liked the video and hope you'll do a followup mention of people who intend to or have tried the adapter and why they find it useful.
Great video and amazing images you captured.
Glad for an honest review. I’ve seen reviews saying this Megadap works almost as good as on a Sony body .
Sure and no it doesn’t work as good as a native body.
Hi Mark, Was wondering what you are doing in post for your videos, like sharpening, LUT's etc.
Wonderful narration as well as the good info on this product. You got me hooked on the subscribe button 😉
Love your work! Voice over is on top too! Hi from France :)
Thanks
Hi Mark,, I have a Nikon Z9 and I am waiting for a Nikon 200-600 lens. too long. That's why I decided to buy a Sony 200-600 with a Megadap ETZ 21 adapter. after I saw your contribution on youtube. I have a question. Do you recommend this SONIKON Frankestine combo :-) and is is any bad experience about this
English is not my first language, but I hope you understand my problem
Marjan
The adapter certainly gives those who have Sony glass and want the Z9 something to think about. I have always been intrigued by the Z9, I know it's an amazing camera as is my A1. The issue my photography friends and I have had is that the Z9 seems to be the greatest camera that no one can purchase. I have friends who are Nikon shooters waiting now over six months for one. I guess that just shows how much the Z9 is coveted . The price difference is about $1,000 but I would gladly(and did) pay that amount in order to get my hands on another great camera (A1). Anyway, I appreciate you showing your experiences with the adapter.
A1 have better versatility and better noise management, as this clip shows. Good test. Amazing Nature!
I will wait longer for the $1000 different.....that means I have $1000 extra in my pocket and the greatest Nikon camera in hand when i get it...
@@prodefensiofotografia555 Yeah it's a great camera. I just have so much Sony glass that the Z9 wasn't worth the wait. So I sold my AR3 and picked up the A1. Love the camera. I'm sure you will also love your Z9 when you get it.
The color is outstanding in this video!
Looked good overall. It will be interesting to see how Nikon's 200-600 (hopefully in the works) compares to how the Sony 200-600 performed. Thanks for sharing.
We shall see
Boy....right on time with this. Thanks. Thankfully the Z9 seems more cooperative with F mount glass.
I recently purchased the ETZII adapter to shoot with Sony lenses and my new Z9… all works quiet perfectly except when I zoom and de-zoom with AF-C continous on, I always lost the focus (during a soccer match, player running towards me , alone )
Doesn’t appear with Nikon 180/400 AF-S lens
Is there something wrong with the settings (my settings), or what...? a bug of the adapter ? or so is it "normal » ?
Thanks in advance for your answer and tips...
Best regards
Mark what you uncovered I found out the hard way the other day. The combo work’s quite well as long as you don’t zoom while focusing. For my needs this was a deal breaker.
Great video Mark - I reallly enjoyed it.
Many thanks!
Thanks Mark for the great video! Personally I am waiting for the Nikon 200-600mm lens. Though I think the adapter may be good for some folks. I have a friend who has the adapter and said the focus was slow using the Sony 200-600mm lens. Though he said it was awesome with the Sony 600mm lens! Thanks again!
I like the idea of the Z 200-600 too. But I hope it doesn't take as long to get one like the Z 800 pf. I ordered on 7 April 2022. Just today I got the call that the shop has one for me. In the mean time I've been using the Z 100-400 with TC 2.0 on the Z9. Will be very interesting how my results compare over Easter. I'm collecting the new lens tomorrow.
Cool! Love the mc11 for Sony shooters who have canon ef lenses…. Some cameras that are more AF-C it doesn’t work the best for af. But if it’s af-s than your all set. No problem at all….
But if this gets an update I wouldn’t mind trying it with a Nikon. I always loved the Nikon colors
Great video and info on this adapter. I'm wondering if you tried a Fringer Adapter?? I'm a Fuji XH2s shooter, and am always wanting to try using some primes, Sony, Nikon or
canon, really good glass. Thanks again for the nice review!
Great work...would love to see how the Z9 performs with the Sony 600mm f4.
I’ll check it out!
Thanks for the helpful insights. As I already have a Sigma 60-600, I‘ll wait for the native Nikon Z 200-600
hey ow sigma works with this adapter am interesting of 150-600 dg os sort lens?
Doesn't Nikon already have a native 180-600?
@@longingbydesign In the meantime Nikon released it and I have it. It's an OK lens, not outstanding. If I need just 600 mm, I prefer the 600 mm f/6.3 PF
@@SuperBergfex Which probably costs a kidney and a leg, right?
@@longingbydesign Considering that it's just f/6.3, right
Absolute. Quality. 👌
Mark, Did you get a sense for whether the camera’s VR was working with the adapted lens? A few years ago i tried adapting my ef Canon lenses to my Nikon. The focus worked ok but the VR seemed to not communicate with the adapted lens. I realize not so much of concern when doing birds with high shutter speeds. But for other uses, i value the VR. Thanks
Love my Z9. Had mine about 4 months now. Af with adapted f mount glass can be wonky on many things also plus some adapted f mount glass the camera flat out does not like. Native glass simply shines on the camera. I felt like for portraits adapted f mount glass had a 70% hit rate. Native glass is a 98% hit rate.
Hi Mark what version of the Megadap ETZ-21. I have seen a new one and it say`s it is version 2
It looks awesome, does it provide camera and lens stabilization or only one of them ?
I'm not sure. It was very stable though. I was surprised just how good that portion was.
This was really useful! Thank you Mark!
You're very welcome!
As usual, great video.
Mark your videos are mesmerizing! Can you share with us your video settings for the Z9 and what Codecs you used??
Mark thanks for the like comment can you answer the question regarding your Z9 setting and Codecs used to shoot the video?
Does inbody stabilization works with Megadap on nikon? If it does work at all, do you have to chose between lens/body stabilization or you can use both?
I think I can see the mob forming...yeah...that looks like a couple of pitchforks...yup, yup...they've started chanting...run. Great shots as always!
lol.... walking away... jogging..... running
Super content and the images you picked were spectacular. You always tell a great story! I agree, you would be a great modern replacement for David Attenborough !!
Thanks so much!
Got my version of the adapter a few weeks back and will try it on my Sony zooms like the 200-600 but my plan is to use it mostly for GM primes that Nikon does not have yet. Also found it works well on Zeiss Batis lenses. Hey ever give any thought to trying an F to E adapter on a lens like the Nikkor AF-S 500mm f/5.5E PF ED VR on a Sony Alpha 1? I’m looking to give that a try too. Thank you for the video.
Hi Mark! Love your videos. I would like to thank you for your videos. They helped me choose my last parts of my gear when I decided to go with Sony. My favorite lens is the 200-600mm used for Osprey, Hawks and Eagles that are here in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. I’ve been trying to get pelicans and woodpeckers. My main body is the Sony a1 for its speed. I was wondering if you are familiar with any great spots for Osprey and Eagles here in Hampton Roads Virginia. Thank you Mark. Keep up the videos.
How about the other way round, Mark ?? I.e. putting a Z or F mount telephoto prime lens on Sony A1. That would be awesome if Nikon Z400 4.5 / Z800 6.3 works on A1
If you can find the z glass….
@@MarkSmithphotography Yeah that’s True 😁
Excellent as always Mark! If you don't mind me asking, how to you find the Z9 vs. the A1 for VIDEO AF? Much of a difference?
With the adapted lens, worse. With native lenses better.
@@MarkSmithphotography Very interesting -- thanks Mark!
Was the adapter or the camera. From my understanding of the Z9 it has some bird focusing difficulties.
Adapter for sure. It doesn’t do that with the native z lenses
I have the megadapter 21 with the latest firmware and use it on my Z9 with the sony 200-600mm. Strange thing is that you have to put VR on the camera off, otherwise it wont stabilize.
Anyone noticed this? (On the lens it's on in one of the 3 positions)
No Sony glass here, but I have heard that the Z9 plays nicely with Nikon F lenses. I will soon find out. Got a Z9 on order!
The Sony z9 has awesome color science
Lol
Nobody mentioned the video feed going a little haywire at some points of the video. Happened on my computer and my phone at the same parts. Is this due to the lens/camera?
I didn’t notice
Interesting, I wonder if the Sony 3rd party glass adapts to Z mount too?
If it fits the mount then I’d say yes
YEA YES YES on A1 video setup
Does it compare to the A1? - I have an A1 and the 200-600mm and rate it highly
What focus modes did you use on the Z9 with with Sony lens? Did you find one mode was better than others?
wide area af I think
@@MarkSmithphotography Did you use any of the other modes in testing, like small area, 3-D, dynamic or single point? Also you mention focus was lost on zoom, but did it stabilize quickly one you stopped the zoom?
Sony A1, EOS R3, Nikon Z9, etc. What is the next level/name/type of camera after this, what are they called?
R1
@@tvm2209 that’s not even a camera brother. The earliest would be late 2023 to see it. What do Hollywood use?
@@esco.letsgo So you're asking about Cinema Cameras then...FX6, FX9, C70, C300iii, URSA, Komodo, and of course the Arri Alexa.
@@tvm2209 Thank you for the knowledge, do they use those same cameras to take photos aswell?
@@esco.letsgo No, you don't buy a snowblower to cut grass. If you want both photo and video then your best bet would be to either buy a mirrorless "hybrid" camera or buy a dedicated photo camera with a dedicated cinema/video camera.
Hi mark , what do you recommend for z8 videography focus ? Etz21 pro+ sony 200-600 or nikon 180-600 ?
I just picked up a second hand Sony A9 for a steal, and am buying a 200-600 tonight? What do you think Mark, should I be excited? I’m a long time Nikon shooter…. Nervous about trying out this camera
Always brilliant and informative
Definitely prefer native setups but if you post it I’ll gladly support the watch!
Beautiful kitty and great video
Hi Mark, Thanks for the great vids. Interesting that you try the Sony lens. Even with your negatives, it does sound like a good option. Especialy as the lens is well priced. I have the F 200-500 and have used it on my Z9 with adapter of course. But to date I am very happy with the Z 100-400 and Z TC2. However, I am collecting my Z 800 pf tomorrow after a year long wait. Wooo Bloody Hooo LOL.
Mark do you recommend the 1.4 teleconverter on the Sony 200-600? Or no? I’m usually always against teleconverters but was wondering if you would? I don’t liken the idea of a stop of light loss and degraded resolution! However my D500 gave me 900 mm on 600mm lens at 20 megapixel!!!!!
Beautiful Cat! Great video.
Hi Mark, Great video as usual . I would really appreciate your input on the video performance of the Z9. I'm a former Nikon shooter (stills) that moved to Sony and currently use the A1 + 200-600 (mainly for video). Its a great combination with superb quality, However it also overheat quite fast. In an ambient temperatures of 25+ Celsius the A1 will sometimes shut-off due to overheating after only 10 min of 4k-120p ( in high high temp mode). Its really limiting. How do you found the z9 performance, is it any better with overheating? And how is it video performance in other areas compare to the A1 (autofocus, ease of use in the field and etc.) .
Hi there, zero issues with Z9 overheating, even after shooting 4K for an hour
If you haven't already done so: 1. Set auto high temperature shutoff to HIGH; 2. Keep the rear screen away from the camera body; 3. For long-form video use a dummy battery attached to an external power source, or use a battery grip (not as good as the previous suggestion but better than in-body batteries).
I got the adapter as well. It works well but the image stabilizer at the Z9 and the 200-600 doesn't work (its grey) . Shooting freehanded is really challenging at 600mm. Does the image stabilizer
work at you Z9 ?
Hello Mark, request you to review Nikon Z9 with Nikon Z 400mm f4.5 prime lens
Cheers
Cool de they do one so 8 could put a Nikon z800 f6.3 On a canon R6/7 ?
This is beautiful
Wonderful❤
Hello people, I have just bought ND Filter for my Nikon D7100, 4 filters in 1. I also have UV filter. My question to you is if I can have UV filter before ND filter or after, or should I have some other protection before ND filter or after.
sigma 150-600 dg os sport enyone use ? with nikon z ?
How good for the small birds?
didnt have any small birds
Ich habe von sony 200-600 objektiv kann ich für Nikon Z50 benutzen ?
Nice critical analysis.
As with many things, just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. It's almost always better to use native lenses for your system/manufacturer.
Is the video choppy for you? It's like im watching 5fps video.
can any sony lens work on z9 with that adapter
Mark, focus on the adapter please!
well i i can track what ever i shoot pictures of in full manual mode and just track it
The best adaptation for FE lenses is something called ILCE-1
Did you buy a Z9?
I’m waiting for Nikon z200-600 to replace my sigma 150-600 for my Z6II, I should get a confortable couch I guess!
lol
I've been waiting on the Nikon 200-600 for about a year now. There's a lot of Nikon shooters that might get tired of waiting and but this Sony lens and adapter. I wish Nikon would stop putting out all the prime lenses and get the 200-600 out.
I wish Nikon would ship me my 800pf I ordered about 6 months ago but they have dropped the ball for sure.
@@MarkSmithphotography there's a global chip shortage going on. It's effecting everyone. My daughter has had her car at a shop for over 3 months now waiting on a part that is out of stock. They can't get one at the moment. Car manufacturers are having to park cars coming off the assembly line and not ship them because they can't get the parts in they need. Just be patient.
How did I miss this video???
I have the Z9 and a large collection of Nikon glass both f and z mount. I was hoping this adaptor would work so I could tell Nikon to shove my wait list orders for a 400mm f2.8z and 800mm f6.3 lenses where the sun doesn’t shine. I’m so angry that Nikon has decided to not to invest in the planning and capacity to produce the large primes required for wildlife photography at level to meet pent up demand. They are the most arrogant firm I’ve ever encountered. I’m very tempted to go buy an A1 and several Sony lenses like the one shown here and a 600mm or the 400mm f2.8. I’m at an age where time is a limited resource. So my inability to buy Nikon kit means less days I’m able to shoot in this lifetime. I’m being told by my camera dealer a 400mm Nikon lens is about a year away - even though I placed the order the day it was possible. Oh well…I’ll keep an eye on this device or sell my Z9 on eBay and go Sony. Finally I think Nikon was very stupid to set the price for the Z9 $1000 below comparable models like the A1. They could have harvested that revenue and put it into manufacturing capacity. Later in the boy’s life cycle they could have discounted it to drive added volume after the initial demand was satisfied. Product Marketing 101…fail.
I prefer a native Sony or Nikon combination
I honestly believe you are perfect replacement for David Attenborough when he retires!!!
I will take that job! Not sure they will give it to me, but I will take it lol.
Blasphemy? Well...it was a blast-for-me!😉
Lol
@1:35 is it Just me or is this Video weird (in technical aspects)
Interesting. But I think it would be even more interesting to be able to adapt Nikon F lenses to Sony, because then I would tell Nikon to stick up the Z9 I ordered in november 21, and have not yet recieved, and go buy a Sony A1 instead. Changing all the Nikonlenses I have will ruin me. Sadly it seems like Megadapt dont produce anything like that. Maybe that would be an idea for them, as the market must be enormous with that Nikon delivery rate in mind.........! Anyway, thank You for yet another fantastic video.
I think the Techart TZE-01 works better than the Megadep.
Really? That’s good to hear.
👍👍❤
Why put a Chevy engine in a Mercedes???? Cool video Mark….
Lol
Is it the video or my browser, anything at the 60p just dies a terrible death. The Audio is OK, but the video looks like it's being shredded by razor wire...
I have worked with adapters for Nikon and Sony for over 30 years and they are never as good.
As always fantastic pictures. I can't imagine any reason why someone will buy the Nikon if they have Sony lenses, besides teachers and reviewers. It makes no sense to me.
