Great episode! I've noticed you ask race-related questions to your guests when they are people of colour. Would love to see you ask similar questions to your guests who are white. Addressing race relations is a conversation for all, especially among those who don't usually discuss it.
i was just thinking this!
This is very true
this is so valid but sadly i doubt this would ever happen cause when yt people are among themselves they usually don’t care about the lack of diversity in their circles
51:48 “Do you have the same cocktail of mental illnesses as I do? Work. Let’s spiral together.” Iconic
As a black, tumblr lesbian from Texas, THANK YOU FOR THIS!! 🙌🏾
Haha this was YOUR episode
One issue with blending White and Black spaces is historically White people showing up in Black and Brown spaces decreases the safety of that space. So I see White people trying to join in on Black and Brown spaces and what ends up happening is they end up taking it over instead of getting incorporated. You can see this also when you apply straight people coming to queer spaces or cis men going into spaces geared towards women/genderqueer people.
Thanks for sharing this perspective! I can see how that happens and must really suck for the black communities.
right, i’ve seen it where i live, especially with clubs, as these spaces are designated “trendy” by alternative media/press, white people flock to it and change the vibe, suddenly the entry and drinks are more expensive, the clubs are packed with people who didn’t even come to dance but just bask in the glory of being in a “cool” black space. it can b rly frustrating, especially when they don’t have a single friend of colour and have no idea how these spaces operate or what we’re seeking when we go there. as much as i don’t want there to be such a stark segregation between communities, it makes sense that people who party differently party apart like, don’t come to the dancehall reggaeton party if you’re not gonna shake ass!!
@@slena Don’t come to the dancehall reggaeton party if you’re not gonna shake ass!!!!!!!!!!! YES!
@@slena@laurenblue9699 | i feel like there should be everything. idk, like why it's one or the other when it can all be there. there should be black or poc queer spaces only, and the white spaces only but then maybe there should be an introduction of some places/scenes where both can meet in the middle. that way no one has to compromise their safety or the vibe, or their preferred spaces and at least with the introduction of a mixed space - there would be a pre-notion of what the vibe might be like, ppl r more prepared and are clued up. it's a healthier way of humans functioning. but i suppose to reach this mentality of things not having to be mutual exclusive all the time is going to take some time, but the point is that: it can all exist, we don't have to take one or the other away. we can all have what we want AND + more.
For me there is also a distinct difference in music taste. I think black and white , Asian Latino gays in New York hang together for house music etc but outside of New York, the music that black people look for when they dance. Vs white people and the dance culture are ultimately different 🤷🏽♀️
Such a good episode! Jade is so funny and articulate; she always seems to initiate some of the most thought-provoking conversations, especially about the queer community. Segregation in queer spaces is such a silent issue, and I didn't even think about the existence of segregation due to age, but she's so right.
It's a hopeless issue in the straight community too lolol cmon we are just too different much of the time You can't force it! Either u can relate or NOT. Or else yeah it's too fake + an acting performance! So let's stop complaining about it. ITS ORGANIC. LIKE FALLING IN LOVE?????
Probably my fav guest, loved this episode so much. the buss down moment killed me😂😂
I’m 52 and follow all these amazing LA 30’s lesbians because coming out late in life and living in small town America.. even though I’m out, there is very little representation so online you can find it regardless of the age difference. So I’m with Cathy the 59 year old.. hopefully Shannon doesn’t get weirded out but feels good that she’s having a positive effect on the older generation of lesbians! Love all your podcasts Shannon!
So much I want to say, and wish I could’ve been able to say it to you while watching! I’m 59. I worry that some people might be creeped out by someone my age following people half my age. But I wanted to know how things have changed since my coming out days and am genuinely happy that we have progressed as far as we have. And, you never stop learning. Don’t think about where you thought you’d be at a certain age. Just be where you are now. I still feel like I’m going through my adolescence some days! 😂 You don’t see older lesbians for exactly the reasons you said. We’ve settled down and don’t go to the bars and clubs, I barely leave my house! Which is why I feel disconnected from my queer community and wanted to reconnect somehow since it’s so hard to find. Shannon, you amaze me with the guests you have had! All are interesting and provide a different perspective. I learn something new every week. And I do look at their social media sites and now follow most of them. I so wish I could attend your live event. I’m sure it will be your best one yet. Much love and respect 🥰
You’re not alone in this thought process. I’m 50 and feel the same. When I came out it was a lonely journey. Seeing the younger generation walk this walk is enlightening. It’s also eye opening on the different views. No matter the age, we can all enjoy and learn from one another. Shannon has provided such a valuable space for the community. I wish I had had a platform like this to pull from when I was coming out.
@@nicolebenitez272. I am the same. 67. Retired. Been in a relationship forever. So have most of my friends. If not in relationship usually healing from bad stuff. My first thought was if you want to see older Lesbians. Go to dinner at 4. When you can get lunch special. Before they turn up the darn music. I wish everyday there was like a lesbian lunch group but I don’t want to mess with it😂.
I’m 55. I bet there’s a lot of us here. I follow lots of younger creators to have a link to my community in a way I don’t in real life.
@@kimberlydidia39 I agree, at 72 I follow a lot of the younger ones just to know what is going on out there nowadays!!
You all need to have a podcast because this is a voice that isn’t out there. It’s missing.
Jade fox was probably one of the best picks for a guest so far. She's SO great and funny and makes great conversation!! You also touched on many topics that I was waiting to see on this pod!
Love Jade so much! You've been killing it with guests and hope more black/poc creators get featured!
this is how i learn jade fox is single
😢
She just made a TH-cam video about it! I learned on Tik Tok lol
Same!! My jaw dropped! She and her girlfriend always looked so happy together and like they really fit. This makes me sad 😢
@@somewhereonlyweknow2814 I agree! Based on jade’s video, I don’t think the split was amicable but idk.
@@rosalial3869her bumble ads on TT had me shook😅
Yasss Jade 😂 forever stannn her! imma be honest I ain’t expect this collab lmao but so excited to watch!
Loved the podcast! On the topic of ageism and segregation, I went to an Arlo Parks concert at a small venue. Going in, I expected mostly Gen Z ppl. But the amount of older gay women who showed up to support an up and coming gay artist made me so happy. Tbh, small venue/club concerts is where it’s at.
47:37 I’m so appreciative that I (51, trans lesbian, femme) have a welcoming group of diverse younger ~25-35 queer folks to hang out with. Especially having come out only a few years ago having missed out on being myself at that age.
Shannon, I wanna thank you for creating this space and inviting Jade into it because as a young black lesbian (from the UK) I've struggled to find black lesbian content creators so this means a lot. Also so glad that you allowed Jade to talk about and mention the role that culture plays into fashion and gender expression. Much needed conversation topic xoxox
“posted 3 mins ago” i clicked so fast 😭💖haven’t even watched yet but shannon tysm for continuing to put out a weekly episode. i can only imagine the drive and effort it takes and i want to let you know that personally i appreciate it more than you know. this pod is my comfort. when im cleaning, driving, traveling, doing my hair/makeup, in the shower w my speaker on 😭, etc. some episodes have me cracking up, some make me sob, others do both at the same exact time lol. always turns out to be exactly what i needed so, just thank you. thank you thank you 🫶🏼🥹💖
I had always wondered what it would look like to have Jade on as a guest and this was a stellar beginning conversation shared between two people from different ends of the community. I enjoyed watching them learn from each other as they openly leaned into a certain vulnerability that we don’t typically get to see. Well done 👏🏽
The two women who raised me as a baby queer in the same frame ... this means the world to me i cant wait to watch it!!
I learn so much from everything Jade does.
Whenever Jade Fox guests in someone else podcast it’s a guarantee banger
Jade is such an interesting guest
I really enjoyed this episode with Jade! You’re like me, you’re never going to stop going out and having fun! Stilfun!❤
Haven’t even watched but yes the gay scene BEEN segregated but this is so dope to see the legendary Jade here serving. Can’t wait to watch this in full
“We’re the same person in a different font.” 😂😂😂
Love, love this episode! Jade is very brilliant and tells it as it is. I love that Shannon is having these conversations and not shying away from it. We should be having these conversations about segregation of race and age and coming up with platforms and communities to eliminate it, not just talk about it. Hopefully we get more episodes like this👍🏾
Same. It was my favorite part of the episode. I am proud of shannon for sticking to her word of using the podcast to platform black voices because she saw the need for it. I have learned to accept disappointment when it comes to many white creators who say they wanna help make change but didn't follow through because of discomfort. Jade and Shannon did a great job and I thank them for being willing to have difficult conversations.
i have watched this 4x now. like this is my absolute favorite episode; i love yalls vibe together n love watchin like the quiet hilarity of it all
Y'all should do a clothing collab! The way I would buy everything in that line...
Also, there's a segregation between gays and lesbians (not to be binary about it, but you know what I mean). IDK what to do about that, either?! It feels like we only unite at drag shows, and like, OCCASIONALLY at that.
FINALLY!!! I WAS LONGING FOR JADE ON THE PODCAST IM SO HAPPYYYYY
I enjoyed the last part of the podcast a lot. Meeting older queers is a gift, i have been blessed to meet a few and they helped shape my coming out to bemore authentic.
Love this! My favourite lesbian worlds are colliding haha. Can't wait to watch Jade and Raven together, gonna be hilarious ❤
46, checking in. PNW, I run into older couples all the time. We are working long shifts and we’re in bed by 9 haha
Loved this episode! Great conversations regarding race about appropriation in style and generational differences and barriers to inclusivity. I am proud to support one of the few white creators who is actually trying to platform these conversations and black queers because there is such a problem with representation. Many many white people say that they will be more inclusive (especially in 2020) but are too scared/uncomfortable to actually have these conversations. Thank you to Jade and Shannon for being vulnerable and willing to discuss matters that often times are overlooked. 💙💙
Great episode!! Jade was an awesome guest. Such an interesting & funny convo. Btw that Korean spa scrub-down sounds WILD.
Can’t believe how early I am, but Jade is such an incredible creator and I’m glad to see this blend. Good job guys!
i love Jade fox 🤍
Loved this! I’ve been watching Jade for foreverrrrr.
I can hear you guys talk forever!!! More please !!! ❤
jade fox needs to get on the made it out channel to be interviewed.
The ♓️ Pisces roast was spot on 😂😂😂
If y’all combined your creative forces for a video, I feel like it would be top tier content. Y’all’s styles and vibes are so alike, great podcast 🙏🏽❤️
I lovedd how gracefully Jade taught her about a buss down 😂❤
Great conversation, love jade
Here for Jade! She’s such a good conversationalist.
this episode was really interesting, it really is adressing topics new to the podcast (from what i've watched till now at least) and sparks a new conversation (because even though i like your podcast, i'll admit that sometimes conversations seem to be repetitive). Congrats on you both!
Anytime I see two older women together
I ask my gf, which one is you and which is me.
awwww
Jade and Shannon!!! I've been following both of you for over a decade... this is so surreal and awesome!!! I love you ❤❤
I can listen to Jade talk ALL DAY!! ❤ Thank you for sharing!!
Best episode so far. Been waiting for you to have more BIPoC guests on your podcast to talk about social issues and observations about the queer community.
I love how low-key HILARIOUS you guys are together!! LMAAAOOO
The thumbnail didn't need to be as serious as the title, when every other thumbnail is of you and your guest smiling
OMGGGG so happy so see Jade on here 😍 hell yeah!
White American really has just consistently taken Black culture and presented it to the world as “American” culture.
This was such a nice discussion! Thank you both!!❤
Jade is so funny, love hearing her talk about random stuff
I’ve been watching Jade since she was Foxyhotmess so when I saw this I had to click. & y’all hit it on the head with Oklahoma literally NOT gay and one gay bar that’s popping.😭 new sub for sure 😂🙌🏽

JAAADE! hell yea!!
Omg also Vcu alumni right here!!!! All to love Jade!! (And Shannon 😇)
I don’t mind having segregated party spaces but I agree outside of that we need to be in community

Us older queers are here but like we got families and kids and don't go out much. I try to wear something that indicates I'm gay family tho.
I would love to see Hartbeat on this podcast! Love Jade and this conversation.

Baaaaaaaaaby freaking yeeeeeees😂😂😂 here we go!!! Am just freaking happy for this one😂😂😂❤✌🏾
Hey Shan, I know that it's not the right context, but I don't really use other forms of social media, so I'm writing you here. You mentioned in one of your previous video, that you've got some problems with living in the US/government. As a European I was wondering if you'd make a video about it... I might plan to relocate to LA when I'm older. If I want to be more specific, I'm wondering how's living as a queer person in LA compared you other big cities. I know it's a very divisive topic:( Thank u Shan! Btw I'm in love with this podcast!!! Keep going!
🎉jadejadejade
Never in a million of years I could predict that my two childhood heros would collab
Great convo
Please have Jade back!
I think thr term you were looking for at 55:13 was 'arrested development' haha. Great episode! I too hope that we see older queer representation.
Let's go!!! I'm so happy you had Jade on, I can wait to watch
For me, I needed to heal before getting into another relationship. I did not want to put any excess baggage onto anyone else. I believe that is healthy and responsible.
