my man you’re misappropriating your frustration onto another abuse victim. Drew is one of the many feminists that are using accessible platforms to teach women to stand up to misogyny, and that can come from men and women, mind you. Men are arguably the loudest perpetrators and the most invincible especially in the patriarchal societies we live in, and to your point, vileness can come from men women and everyone in between. No one is disparaging your experience. Take your frustration to therapy, break down that trauma, and learn to cope and confront your trauma. Think twice before commenting.

She describes the same men who are angry at women who choose to stay single and live their own hero's journeys.
Same type of men who call these women "childless cat ladies". Sorry to burst their bubble but these women are free, happy and grateful that for the first time in history, they are now able to take care of themselves and their community without feeling obligated to cater to a man. Something we've always been completely capable of but have been deterred and brainwashed away from doing so.
Decenter men and as Drew says, "the world opens up". I love it!

I've always been a feminist, but until I started watching Drew's videos I never realized a huge source for my chronic anxiety was rooted in the patriarchy.
I was always afraid to misstep or inconvenience someone, and I never before had put into perspective that men don't manage and limit themselves for the convenience of others the way women do. Drew made me realize that I'd subconsciously felt responsible for making men comfortable and that they shouldn't have that power over me.
If you're reading this and you have severe anxiety, try to remember that a lot of your fears are rooted in patriarchal standards. Whatever your gender identity is, your fears of not being successful enough, strong enough, smart enough, attractive enough, etc. are all based on what patriarchal societies and systems value. Your own value comes from you, not them.

@@bdmenne you know that the whole notion that men were the hunters and women were the gatherers has been disproved, right? scientists are actually thinking that it’s likely that autistic people were the main gatherers because they could remember a lot of specific information about plants and stuff, and people with adhd were great hunters because they had a lot of energy and were very quick thinkers. there’s so much about humanity that we’ve assumed, but the truth is we don’t know. there is no excuse for the patriarchy, not even “human nature” because gender doesn’t actually have anything to do with survival 👍

"It's easy to do it from afar but can you do it when it's right next to you?" Drew, that is such a profound way to describe supporting a marginalized group!!! Everybody claims to be an ally but if it was your family member that came out, or started dating interracially, or even stated to say racist or homophobic things themselves, would you stand up or show support for that marginalized group? Or would you stay silent (or worse make it about your discomfort or fear)?

You have to speak the language they do understand, and sometimes that's meanness. Also, if someone is mean to you they just don't deserve your kindness period.

I could see someone arguing "youre complaining about men haiting women but say its fine for women to hate men." But literally the WHY behind the contempt is astounding. I don't think i have ever been this emotional for an Anology before and especially because i have been following drew for a while now, the Anology off "It's like a burning Building and i'm just the one that found the Door and holding it open for everyone (or who chooses to) to get out, the Building is gonna burn down regardless" has got me sobbing for like 5 minutes now
It's absolutely true and it might sound like a pretentious statement to people not familiar with her person, but thats exactly who she is. And its so selfless too, because holding the door open for a extented period of time takes a toll on someone too, she could also just have been like well i figured it out for my self for the most part i'm good, but she doesn't
love this woman doown, and i really need people to know that just because she is not "nice" (atleast to bigoted men) doesn't mean she isn't kind, and she is so kind.

Drew is such an online icon. This is the first time I've seen one of her interviews and it's so refreshing to see her speak with such knowledge about systemic issues. As a woman of colour and from the global south who has studied feminist theory for years, and completed a master's in gender and development, I love how good she is at understanding and speaking of complex theoretical concepts that feminists have expanded for years, and is able to bring them into conversation with her casual and humorous interventions.
Feminism is not a monolith, and it cannot be reduced to 'the search for equality in opportunity and choice'. Feminisms (pl.) are an ethical struggle, and can be applied to all aspects of human life.
Well done Rainn and Drew, I hope videos like these reach millions of women AND men, and hopefully one day we're able speak of systemic oppressions as past concepts. Great content. Cheers!

I love the analogy of the burning building, it applies to so many things, but I think of it in terms of internalized misogyny. Like all of us are in the burning building of patriarchy, but we’ve convinced ourselves it’s not burning. Drew’s coming in talking to the people suffering the most and pointing out the smoke and the burns, showing you that the room is burning, and then pointing out the exit door by saying, you are allowed to say, this treatment, this state of eternal burning, is unacceptable, and I’m not going to pretend I don’t see it and I don’t suffer anymore.

Drew talking about her sister coming out to her reminds me of when an ex came out to me as trans. She was so shaky and when I asked her why she said "I wasn't sure how you'd take it. I'm a girl who likes girls." And THAT was the moment that I realized that I'm not as good of an ally as I thought either. We both cried about it while I told her no matter what I'm ALWAYS going to love you, as long as youre a good person and are being genuine, be YOU who you were born to be. Her fear and tears really drove me to be better, to be who I am today because I don't want people to have that fear with me. Ik to an extent it'll always be there because opening up is scary and the world is terrifying but opening up to me the tears shouldn't be shed because someone fears to tell me who they are. The day she came out to me I became louder about where my heart lies to try to make it a more comfortable place for those who are afraid.

Drew's philosophy is one that I've implemented in my daily life and it has drastically impacted how I engage with allyship. I don't have fear when challenging perspectives, particularly as I work in a male dominated industry. When you make allyship your own you can begin to see the positive impact it has on marginalized populations, and privileged populations that have never been challenged on their ideas.

I have so much to learn from this woman. I’ve known about her for a while but never really got into her content until the past couple months and I just fucking love everything she says.
I have a lot of internalised phobia’s and misogyny even as a lesbian woman. I grew up in a rough house where these things were normal and encouraged. It’s a tough thing to relearn things you have learned as a child in the years where it matters most. I am doing my best but its so fucking refreshing to hear her speak my thoughts without shame and with the confidence and the knowledge to back herself up if questioned

This is why I love drew so much, she literally just spoke so much fucking truth in this video like the part where she said she feels like she validates women's experiences by being angry with them, and that hit me in my core like I knew I loved her because she's gorgeous, kind, hilarious, and dogs on shitty men, but it wasnt until this video I realized why i truly value and admire her because she does in fact Validate my feelings when it comes to men in general. She deserves the world, and will always be a feminine icon to me

I feel Iike I love watching drew because of her personality and how she stands her ground but watching her response to these questions helps me see MORE of why she does what she does. You asked her the question and listened ❤ also rip your father he would come into a Starbucks I used to work at . He always talked about how proud he was of you ❤

Drew is so inspiring! ❤ I stand by the point that you have to speak to someone in a language they understand. Throw it badk at them and see how they react. I am not a yeller, but had to keep doing it to someone in my life bc they do it so much to me and it always made me feel terrible. Asking them to speak to me calmly and with respect got me nowhere. Turns out they HATE being yelled at, big shock😮

It’s not women’s job to “nice” the hate out of men. It’s men’s job to figure out why they insist on projecting their own self hatred onto women simply living their life
