Josh - don't underestimate how many fixed wing pilots watch your channel for exactly this kind of information. I may tune out on the more quad specific stuff you cover but all in all your channel is one of the best out here for all of us RC enthusiasts. Keep it up!

Yes. I fly both quad and FW. But FW has more of my attention.

I fly fixed wing, helicopters, and quadcopters. Why wouldn't I come here to learn and grow? Are guys who fly quads only into quads and guys who fly fixed wings only into fixed wings? If that's true for some, that's totally fine. But why would anyone assume that?

The updated segments are the entire ELRS segment at 27:45 and a note about ACCESS receiver at 10:46.
Regarding the comparison between Tracer and ELRS at around 28:47, the reason Tracer has much shorter range is that it's using FLRC modulation instead of LoRa modulation like ELRS. The tradeoff is that Tracer has full telemetry, while ELRS has only rudimentary telemetry (vBat, LQ, and RSSI). The claim that ELRS has superior range and latency is not just based on this one test, which I pulled from Wez's YT as an example, and to demonstrate that the claims are based on real flight testing not just theory. Wez has done tons of apples-to-apples comparisons between ELRS and other protocols, and ELRS wins every time. However, if you need full telemetry for features like Betaflight Lua scripts or MAVLINK, ExpressLRS is not the best solution (today).

A couple of bits that you have missed with the TBS products. One is that they can talk to each other transmitter to receiver to VTX to Fusion enabling dynamic control, OSD and been able to update not only the receiver over the air but also the VTX. That's one of the biggest benefit's of TBS products. Another one is TBS also does PWM from 4, 6 and 8 channels through a simple adaptor boards for both Crossfire and Tracer. ImmersionRC Ghost is supposed to be getting a similar eco system to TBS, the orca goggles have a slot of a Ghost receiver for instance, but not much has been heard about it since. ELRS looks to becoming a great system for the future.

Hi Joshua. I'm playing around with a cheap 2.4G wifi FPV drone where the there is no receiver in the remote controller - therefore no visible telemetry unless you also connect the smartphone with an appropriate APP (eg the distance, height, number of GPS satellites, etc). Can I ask a stupid question? Can any of these better RC Transmitter/Receiver controllers, that have both transmit and receive, be made to connect and fly these cheap drones. Only certain APPs will establish a connection to the drone so I'm assuming they all seem to have different firmware burnt in.

  • @RGMGFitness

Joshua, first EXCELLENT VIDEO! Covered it all very thoroughly. The only slide I think that was missing from this video was DJI's FPV control link and how that stands up to all of the others. I only mention it because so many folks (like myself) have BNF quads with DJI Air Units or Caddx Vista systems in them. Again, just for comparison purposes (latency, distance, etc.). Again..excellent video as I'm certainly thinking of going TBS CrossFire with a TBS Tango II controller myself (just to mix things up). 👍👍👍

I have used and continue to use, for nearly 2 years, both the original R9M as well as the R9M 2019 using ACCST on my Jumper T16 Pro. I like using the R9Stab 900mc. stabilized receiver with the 2019 module flashed with ACCST firmware . I use the old R9M module with the R9 mini and slim. It does work with the right legacy firmware . It works well for me and allows me to use SmartPort sensors to see each battery cell which I insist on.

Hi everyone! Hopefully someone can answer this question, I’m just getting into fpv so still a newb, but i enjoy watching your videos the most for fpv and other drone related content!! My question is, would I have MORE flexibility with the SAME amount of performance if I buy the 4-in-1 Radiomaster Boxer radio, and then purchase an ELRS transmitter to attach to the back of it, or is the built in ELRS Radiomaster Boxer more effective than the external transmitter, but at the cost of only being able to run ELRS? If so, how much better is it? I suspect that I’ll opt for ELRS for every quad I build, but having flexibility to be able to run pre-built quads is still also appealing to me, although not necessarily necessary lol
    **EDIT**
Ok so i found the answer to my question via reddit and since 4-in-1 multi protocols have pretty much already reached their peak potential, imma go with that for internals and just run an external ELRS to be able to upgrade / change with the rapidly developing tech!

I'm using G4/LTE (Matek 765, RPi Zero W 2, UAVcast Pro, Huawei 3372) for digital video, telemetry and long-range control. It would be really nice to rely on a long-range RC link entirely for control, without switching between standard 2.4 GHz (Hitec) and the LTE via MAVlink, but if I'm to use my existing old Hitec handset (really nice Aurora 9), I need a PPM interface on the Tx RF module. Unfortunately, ExpressLRS supports only CRSF, which I realise has much better latency and is supported by all the OpenTX handsets. I know the big TBM Crossfire module supports PPM, but is there an ELRS Tx module which supports PPM?

I've got a Jumper T16, so FrSky Accst BNF is going to be my way forward until I can save up for a module.
Probably going to spring for TBS Crossfire.
If I need to replace or upgrade my Jumper, probably going to spring for something with ExpressLRS 2.4 built in and use then-my Crossfire mod for any models that still use it by then, as my long term plan.
Might also spring for a commercial eLRS module setup since I haven't really started my return to FPV in earnest yet.

Currently flying Crossfire for medium range and frsky for micros. But have ordered a Ghost module and intend to switch everything over to that, eventually. If I had more free time available, maybe I would give elrs a shot. However, after flying Crossfire for over a year, I am spoiled and want a system that just works and is easy to manage. Would have gone with Tracer if they had half-decent range at 250 mw. Unfortunately, as we all know by now, it doesn't.

    I have a question.
I have the ACCST model QX7 Taranis radio. And Ive bound that to my TinyHawk and TinyHawk2 FS, as well as flashed and bound my Nazgul5 V2. My question is, If I get a Crossfire unit, can I take the module off my radio and use it as just a base radio, and then (for example) put it on and fly a Flywoo Explorer LR? In other words, can I put it on the radio as needed and remove it to run non crossfire aircraft?
