Leonardo DiCaprio said that playing Billy Costigan was like having a panic attack 24/7. And I 100% believe him.
That gunshot to the head by Dignam at the end was mainly revenge for Queenan. Maybe a little for Billy, but Wahlberg said that it was mentioned in the script that it was revenge for Queenan's death.
it's... pretty fucking obvious
@@GeorgeTropicana Tone it down, there's no need for the swearing. Work on your vocabulary.
They gave you hints that it was Billy's baby because Collin had issues in the bedroom
Yep, he really hated the color of those curtains in the bedroom.
@@disobedientdolphin is that why his Weiner didn't work
LOL the banana during that scene was supposed to be a phallic symbol.
its obvious that collin is gay
Starting a random movie and finding out its one of the best movies ever made is a very rare experience , I really miss that feeling.
Requiem For A Dream does that for a lot of people
I've never seen Alyska so tense while watching a movie before
Legitimately one of the best movies ever made
@@sonofliberty1according the viewer ratings it handily surpassed the original and even won an Oscar. But Martin only borrowed the idea and changed it quite a bit.
@@adamelam6385 Let's not trash Scorsese that fast, he personally thanked the cast and crew of the original in his acceptance speech as well as had them in a cameo in the movie. They were the Chinese gangsters in the microchip sale.
@@adamelam6385true but aren't all films just borrowing from what came before?
I prefer this to "Infernal Affairs" and a reason for it being more popular is because it is English language and people posting probably speak English rather than Chinese?
@@adamelam6385 no one gives a shit if it's a remake aside from brain dead idiots
@@adamantiumragedidn’t know that that’s cool
An hour-long upload! We're eating good! 🙏
Enjoy your break!
As a proud resident of New England I can confirm that The Departed, Good Will Hunting, and The Town are the most accurate Boston movies ever made.
You forgot Good Will Hunting and Patriots Day.
@@helifanodobezanozi7689 dude I put Good Will Hunting up there.
As a proud resident of England, I love these movies and the city of Boston.
@@scarecrowman7789 As one of my friends from London once observed, Boston is the most English city in the US. I guess the layout of the city streets reminded him of home.
@@helifanodobezanozi7689 Yes - very British style city which makes sense as many British settlers lived there.
Saw it in the theater. Never heard a more audible GASP in a theater when Leo gets shot in the head.
Great cast, great acting, great direction
Martin Scorsese doesn't disappoint
It's a remake from a Chinese trilogy of films called, "Infernal Affairs". Not really a Scorsese film.
@@aTofuJunkieyou are correct, this was inspired by the trilogy but it's one of the rare occasions where it improved over the original. Martin took some of the ideas of the original trilogy that was wasn't that highly touted with a 6.3/10 and made a masterpiece out of it that won an Oscar.
That rarely happens. Most of the time you end with a remake like Spike Lees remake of Old Boy that wasn't nearly as good as the original.
Didn't he do gangs of new York?:I thought that kinda sucked
@@MrJholshouser41 yeah I would agree that's not one of his best.
@@adamelam6385 It did not absolutely improve on the original as Infernal Affairs is way better in several different aspects. Especially subtlety. And it was not inspired by it, it was a straight up American remake.
One of my fave movies of all time
Infernal Affairs is the movie that this is a remake of it is just as good I recommend watching that also
no.
When i saw Infernal Affairs (knowing it was what The Departed was based on) my appreciation for this movie dropped significantly
Winner of 4 Oscars including Best Picture.
This should've been Leo's Oscar for best actor is well.
@@carlosoto6245 Amen! But the way the Oscars work, the artist has to put forward their work and literally campaign for it within the Academy, and can only put forward their work for one specific award in a year. That year, Leo was also in "Blood Diamond," and Leo could put his work in "Blood Diamond" up for consideration for the award for best actor, therefore he couldn't and didn't put forward his performance in this. Which really sucks he didn't win it for that film either. I love the "Last King of Scotland" and Whitaker's performance in it - which he won best actor for that year, but I'm sorry - Leo in both this and in "Blood Diamond" were imo better and more deserving of the award . It's sort of funny though that he'd go on to finally win it for his work in "The Revenant," because both that film and his performance, though really good - no doubt, but were still imo not remotely as brilliant as "The Departed" and "Blood Diamond" films as well as when it comes to Lep's performances in both! Those two movies in combination, similar to what "Fight Club" and "Snatch" did for Brad Pitt - convinced me Leo was a legit phenom of an actor - rather than some pretty boy
That's probably your best reaction yet.
You know the film gets a high mark when you clap at the end and yell "fu****g hell!" several times!😂
Literally can’t go wrong with anything Leo he’s the GOAT!!🔥🔥
I saw The Departed when I was 15 when it came out and this was the movie that turned me from a casual movie fan into a hardcore film buff.
Hahahahaha
Dude same. Showed this to so many friends that said it was boring.
Uncultured swine
I just love the relationship between Frank and French. Jack Nicholssn and Ray Winstone work so well together and plays off eachother and Frank's and French's chaotic and dangerous nature so brilliantly. One of my favorite movies ever and might be Scorsese's best IMO. The elevator scene is litterally mindblowing. Loved your reaction to it!
and they didn’t get along at all during filming according to Winstone. 2 great actors.
Those sudden outbursts of violence really puts anyone on edge
Here is a fun fact for gamers. The store employee Vin who hands Frank the money at the start of the film is John Rue, the voice of Leviticus Cornwall in Red Dead 2.
nothing fun about that completely irrelevant fact
Gee, my life feels so much more fulfilled knowing that, the fun factor on that one is like wow. 🙄
For anyone wondering, Delahunt was not an undercover cop. He didn't say anything about giving Bill the wrong address because during his time working for Costello, he'd done bad things but never killed anyone and was sort of proud about that. Now, on the verge of death, he didn't want to become a killer by telling on Bill.
What are you basing this on?
@@GastonBoykins Scorsese interview.
In the beginning you said Delahunt (the bad guy who gave leo the wrong address) looked familiar. Thats because he was in "Shawshank redemption"
The guy you thought you recognized is the evil prisoner from the Shawshank redemption.
The Departed is one of Martin Scorsese’s best movies of all time, I’m glad you’re watching it, and I always hope you’ll watch Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, Harry Potter, The Sopranos, Mr. Robot, and Inception at some point, Alyska
DiCaprio getting capped is the best part of the movie. It’s too bad there aren’t more of his movies that end that way
Wow, hater?
"Yes! Do it, do it!"
LOL you're so right about it being just like that SNL sketch hahahahah, I could totally see Andy Samberg coming out of nowhere and shooting Mark Wahlberg
Wait til you see Leo and Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York, another Scorsese gem
This movie ends like the "bad ending" in an open world crime RPG 😆
This movie is still one of my favourites, Glad to see you enjoyed it as well.
Now, I think a next obvious movie to watch is The Town with Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner, and others.
I know exactly which scene the title is referring to😂it left everyone shocked!
This is probably the best reaction I’ve seen so far to this film. Brilliant!
Wasted no time uploading this looking forward to this one!!
Fun fact: The Departed was a movie that was inspired by a Chinese movie called Infernal Affairs which have the same storyline but I think is more intense. Just compare the scenes from both movies. I personally think they both are great movies. 😊
I like Infernal Affairs more
Actually, the movie is more than just a re-make. The villian was loosely based on real life Irish-American mob leader Whitey Bulger. Like the character, he was both an FBI informant, as well as the brother of President of the Massachusetts Senate. At the time of the movie's release, Bulger was on the run.
i still remember the first time i watched the movie back in 2007 or 08, man, the shock and that ending left me traumatized for years.
8:13 - He IS “technically” a cop.
I love how movies make it like there is some kind of rule that if someone asks you if you are a cop you have to tell them. It's the oldest cliche in the book. If that were the case, no one could ever go undercover because if they were asked if they were a cop, they would have to lie. If it were against the rules to lie, any evidence would be inadmissible.
One of the best movies. The entire cast was terrific.
One of my teachers from the time recommended this movie to me. I was in 8th grade. To this day it’s still in my top 20 movies of all time for me.
Great movie, but I think the Chinese version, Infernal Affairs, (which The Departed was inspired by) was executed better.
next film should be Goodfellas 1990
Agreed
Yes please
10/10 film, one of Leo’s best performances! 10/10 reaction! 👏🏽
I have seen a lot of amazing movies like "Shawshank Redemption", "Braveheart", "Legends Of The Fall" etc. - but I guess I've watched "The Departed" about 10 times.
The cast is incredible and the story is just fantastic. I'm glad to have found someone who liked it just as much as me :)
infernal affairs : The film was selected as the Hong Kong entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Academy Awards but was not nominated. Martin Scorsese remade the film in 2006 as The Departed, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture .infernal affairs was nominated for sixteen awards during the 22nd Hong Kong Film Awards, winning seven of those categories. It also won the Best Picture at the 40th Golden Horse Awards, the 8th Golden Bauhinia Awards, and the Best Foreign Language Film at the 46th Blue Ribbon Awards.
36:52 Being from the Boston area, the subway system has excellent Wi-Fi service...that's THE only positive thing to say about the subway system :)
very happy to see people enjoy top film like this one
This is Marky Mark’s best role imo. At least top 3. He was great in this movie.
I forgot how stressful this film is! Love the reaction!
snl the oc sketch is a perfect description of the ending lmao
Reactions like this are why I watch reaction channels! Fantastic job, this was everything I wanted from this movie!
Lol I do the same thing with Wahlberg and Matt Damon always mix them up and now Leo there as well I am all over the place 😂
You are so much fun to hang out with Alyska! Great job on your commentary, John
I loved how mind-blown you were at the end, when all the people were getting their minds blown! Heh.
Watching you go through all your anxiety was so fun to watch 😂😂😂
great reaction video!!
maybe "Shutter Island" next?
Loved this film as well Alyssa. Your reaction to the elevator scene didn't disappoint. 🤪
YES!!! One of my favorites. Glad you're reacting to this
Yay, I love it that you were so into this! Great film, great dialogue and plot :)
this was a really good film 😃 another great reaction Alyska 🙌🏽 keep up the great work friend
I remember seeing this in the theaters when it came out, and I remember the people sitting next to me booing at the exact same time as I did when Leo commented that it was good that she didn’t have cats.
Blood Diamond another great Leo film
they werent saying he couldnt be a cop, they were saying he was far too intelligent to be a cop and that he would be more useful to them as a deep undercover officer.
This was a hollywood remake of HK's Infernal Affairs. Although someone told me they were both based on a book. There's a S.korean one called New World which is definitely as good as this but also a little bit different, but you need subtitles for that.
Good afternoon, Alyska! Hope You will consider my suggestions in the future! I cannot wait for Andor's Second Season and for the same for Ahsoka.
One thing is certain: Thrawn will kick lots of collettive butts in the coming battles! I'm also anticipating Senator Xionno's face when Ezra will stroll in the room to testify the validity of Thrawn's threat. It is going to be a priceless scene!
Thanks for any likes on my comments!
The spider heard about gnatalie don't worry about him
Your spider situation made me think of that scene in Beau
0:41 😅😂 is going to be good lol
Spider spider 🕸️🕷️ probably Alyska fan
3:52 😂 I think I will tag any worries haha 😆
That is another beautiful jumper.
You seem to have an inexhaustible supply of really nice jumpers.
Great reaction from Alyska to a leo classic great cast
Watching your reaction to this was as tense as watching the film.
Had to go watch that SNL skit after you mentioned it 😂
You know I’ve noticed you complain about men being creepers in multiple videos… you know what we are good for though? Getting rid of spiders
We didn't recommend it cause it's such a an iconic film, we just assumed that you had watched it already
My top 3 moves, this!!, Interstellar, and Schindler's List, followed closely by Blow. One of greatest cast combinations ever with more twists than anyone could predict
when i 1st saw this movie i thought a better name for it was "bullet to the head" lol . i get matt damion and leonardo diCaprio mixed up to . great reaction video.
Yes, that’s how we Massholes talk
We don’t pronounce our “R’s”
I didn’t realize I had a Boston accent till i moved to the south
Why don’t people in Boston pronounce their Rs?
@@Legba85 I don’t know. My theory is because we’re part of “New England.” And the English don’t really pronounce their R’s either, do they?
I’m just theorizing
The police used his past to force him into being UC. They needed someone w actual connections who they would trust.
the departed is the remake of "infernal affairs" a hong kong movie starring tony leung (shang chi)
Yeah, as much as Scorsese put his own Boston gangster stamp on this film it was the original that came up with the premise and the major shocks.
I'm just here for the BAWSTEN accents...
MYCWO PWAWSESSORS
For the love of god, please do Training Day with Denzel Washington.
Another good Martin Scorsese film is The Irishman.

Killed it yet again with this reaction 👏🏽🔥🔥
A Quentin Tarantino type ending.
Brilliantly acted, and executed (sorry).
I think it's one of Scorsese's best movies.
Hope the spider doesn't creep down on you.
Fun reaction.
In a strange way (but maybe not), this movie makes me think of The Talented Mr. Ripley. Maybe a good one to react to, after this.
You should watch Taxi Driver. Its by the same director and has robert deniro
Great Reaction Alyska !!! Thank You
Have you seen Gangs of New York? Scorsese, Dicaprio and Daniel Day Lewis. Also, Reservoir Dogs is a classic
Enjoy your break in Athens Alyska ❤
Delahunt was a city cop. Billy is a state cop. They don't know about each other. BTW, the real Frank (Whitey Bulger) went out even worse. I don't recommend reading about it.
Mark Wahlberg`s character, -Sergeant Dingnam is my favorite by far!
Love Your React!
Never seen the departed and now I really wanna watch it also great video alyska keep up the great work 👍 and hope you have a blessed and wonderful weekend ☺️🙏
Slumdog Millionaire next please ))
This is one of my favorite movies.
The pool table that Leo gets his hand rebooken.. I played pool on my holidays there. It was our local in Brooklyn (although the movie is Boston)
Have you seen Leo's 'shutter island' and 'catch me if you can' ? also good stories
He gave him the wrong address but isn't it just down the street a little? Wouldn't be weird to see no-one there, see the cars etc down the street and show up. so not too weird that he'd be late.
Southie ,south Boston, tough neighborhood, if you can’t use your fists , you’re considered weak.
Hello Alyce!😊 I'm late for this one. Been under the weather this week. They actually filmed some scenes from this down the street from my family home. They were the interior warehouse scenes with the Chinese In the old Quincy Shipyard. Boston does have streets from A to Z. So, there is an actual "L Street". The Jack Nicholson character is loosely based on local gangster "Whitey Bulger" who was caught not too long ago. It is actually well known that the Massachusetts State Troopers have the reputation of being corrupt. Some of the Boston accents are a little cringe here. Mark Wahlberg is from here, so his accent is good. His families first restaurant "Wahlburgers" is down the street from me. Great reactions to this crazy gangster film, with tons of twists in the end, Alyce!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
one of the best movies ever🙌also there are theories about Damon's character being sterile just like Nicholson's (comment from his gf: “You know, it’s all right. Guys tend to make a big deal out of it. It’s actually quite common”, Baldwin talking to him and him "flexing" how his d works overtime, him being surprised instead of happy when she told him she's pregnant etc) and she was about to tell Dicaprio that she's pregnant, so it was most likely Leo's kid👀
"Hey guys I thought thoughts of the funniest th- Mm watcha sayyyyyy"
