both are great leo is better imo. For the most part Matt is Matt , Martian, Departed, Good Will Hunting, except for the script its always Matt being Matt and he is great. But Leo? watch him Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, then watch him in Catch Me If You Can, and in Once upon a tima in hollywood. Btw Leo is teamed up with Johnny Depp in Gilbert Grape and Tom Hanks in Catch me If You Can and Brad Pitt in the last movie. You will like them all and you will see different aspects of Dicaprio in each. Oh yeah Biss, keep up the good work and as always keep it cute.

The IRA is the Irish Republican Army a paramilitary group that operated in northern Ireland and has lots of support in the Boston/New England area. Splinter groups still operate there today and are funded by donations from Americans. Growing up in Maine I used to remember the local IRA members collecting money for “the cause” at bars when i was a kid

I used to work with an Irish guy here in New Zealand, who grew up in Belfast. His dad was a cop and used to have to take off his uniform when coming home so he wasn't easily identified. Apparently the IRA were very good at 'doin' yer kneecaps fer ya' I remember we had a mass shooting her in Christchurch and our work place said it's better to not go home at the end of the day until we knew he'd been caught because it happened about 2km away from work. Irish guy wasn't worried and went home anyways, saying 'but it's only 1 gunman, that's nothing!'

"Will", "Bill", "Billy" are all nicknames for William. Just like "Bob" is short for "Robert". Usually when someone goes by the name Bill, their real full name is William. For example, Bill Clinton's full name is William Jefferson Clinton. And Bob Dylan's full name is Robert Dylan (born Robert Zimmermann though, but changed his last name to Dylan)

Hi Miss Biss!🙂This was filmed locally in the Boston area. They shot some scenes down the street from my family home in the old Quincy Shipyard. I have not heard the term guinea for many years. It is a slur for Italian. While this film is fictional, it is inspired by events that actually happened. The corruption in the state police for example was well known. William is the formal name for Will, Willy, Bill, or Billy. William would normally be the birth name. Great reactions to The Departed, Miss Biss!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Although this is indeed an excellent movie, I think it's also a slap in the face of Martin Scorcese that this was the movie he got an Oscar for considering 90% of the plot is taken directly from the movie 'Infernal Affairs'. This is basically an Americanized remake with a love story and some dark humor added. The acting and the characters is what makes this movie great on it's own, without such a strong performance from an excellent cast it would be an almost exact copy of the original. Also Bill is short for William, like Nate for Nathaniel, Nick for Nicklas, Doug for Douglas and so on.

Traditionally, EVERY ethnic group had their own form of "organized crime" in one area or another.
For NY, you had Italian "mob" (Mafia) which would be what you would normally associate with organized crime. There were multiple groups (Families) that controlled certain areas of the city. But there were also Jewish groups, Jamaican, Haitian, Cuban and other groups that controlled other areas as well. Some of these groups would grow larger, split off, and control certain parts which bordered against "rival" groups, or against other groups where there was "an understanding". (Such as don't cross X-Y-Z street when doing your business.)
Boston was somewhat unique in that it had several Irish groups that would either be "purely criminal" (More like traditional Mafia type of organization) while some where "connected" to the IRA (Irish Republican Army) which did most of their crime in order to channel money to "the cause" back in Ireland of confronting the British for the "liberation of the island". This causes several problems with people who would be involved in the criminal act, but their "motivation" was different. Which is why you ended up with everyone "knowing each other", but at the same time not really "trusting each other" when it came to WHY they were involved. So two people from "different crews" might be involved in the same bank robbery, but once they got to splitting up the cash ... well, that was where things got "tricky" and you had to be extremely careful.
Due to these groups being "ethnically isolated", they became EXTREMELY protective of their own areas. So, if you were in an "Irish mob" area and some "Italian mob" people showed up... it would cause hostile reactions, sometimes "wars" between the groups. MOST of the time, this was a "beating" to keep people out of areas, but if a "war" broke out then it was pretty much an all out type of conflict until the "boss" (Head of the group) had a "sit down" (meeting to form a cease-fire/peace). This is when groups got wiped out, or their region grew/shrank depending on how they were doing in these conflicts.
While this was going on all over the USA, it MOSTLY became somewhat "common" to have the following situations form. (Or at least "popularized" through movies and news events.)
NY and New Jersey - Italian
    Boston -Irish
    Florida/Miami - Cuban/Haitian
Chicago - Italian (Al Capone era)
Philly - Italian/Irish depending on area.

Both Leads were excellent, but Leonardo's character was much more complex, harder to play, and despite that played even better. 10 out of 10. He just had more depth and was more interesting. That being said, DiCaprio's character had a lot more for him to work with because of the writing.. Damons character was colder and more sociopathic to start with and was played perfectly, but was not nearly as interesting. It would have been a more fair test to switch roles and have each play the others character. And frankly, I don't know if Matt could have pulled it off as well. Maybe he could have, but it would have been a different movie all the way around, and perhaps a damn good one. Very hard call, because if the advantage DiCaprio had playing such a tough role and nailing it, but I have to give it to DiCaprio, because he DID nail it.

The SAT's are graded from 200 to 1600 points. Anything over a grade of 1350 puts you in the 95th percentile of test takers or higher, so getting a 1400 means Leo's character is pretty fuckin smart. That's why they called him an Astronaut. In terms of what he's capable of mentally he's grossly overqualified to just be a beat cop. If he applied himself he could've been anything he wanted to be.

@14:45 Irish organized crime and Italian organized crime do not generally cooperate with one another or mingle (at least in the US). Also "Guinea" is an somewhat insulting term for Italians not Irish. For Irish the equivalent insulting slang term might be "Mick" or "Mc" (because of names like McDouglal, McConnell, etc etc). I love this movie. It's just outstanding.
@17:53 the IRA is the Irish Republican Army, essentially an insurgent (also often criminal) organization that fought for Irish independence from England (successfully).

Hi Biss, I really like your reactions watching movies, here are some movies that I'm sure you'll like: legends of passion, seven years in Tibet and once upon a time in Hollywood.

Bill Billy Will and Willie are all short for William. That's why you here him referred to so many different names

SAT score of 1600 is perfect. And less than 10% of people score over 1400. So it's a really good score.

Great movie that has a young Matt Damon is ‘Rounders’.
    I think you’d enjoy it.

Since nobody mentioned it I'll just leave this here. Just before every character's death there is an X in the background such a cool detail!

Ah, Ms. BissFlix, in the end they are all rats but I understand the question. A rat would have better morals. I have been to Romania and heard the wolves howling while I sat at the foot of the Carpathian mountains. Happy times. They always howl 'start me up' by the Rolling Stones before a hunt. Not many people know that but now you do. Keep up the good work.
