I don’t know.. But for me this was Kz’s best performance on the show. Maybe because it’s too emotional and you can really feel her heart out. Second for me is Royals and thirdly the Rolling in the Deep

I love this but I'm leaning more to the Chinese song she sang, The Hurt You Never Knew, for the best spot. The main reason is, even without knowing what the lyrics are, people will definitely feel what she's trying to convey. There were no extra vocal acrobats, only pure emotions. While, Say Something is already stapled in most of us as an emotional song since it is a mainstream music. We already know the meaning and there is the nostalgia feels, so our emotions whenever we hear it are automatically set.
I love everything KZ and Makoy Portado (his guitarist friend) did in this arrangement. All those adlibs at the end are still impactful even after the Nth time of watching this performance.
The way KZ sang these phrases “I couldn’t get, I couldn’t get to you..” really depicted her emotions of yearnings and desperation of a person that was in sorrow and apologetic. An artist who could make her audience feel that emotions are uncommon and talented. You are a truly a gem KZ!

The Queen is back on the channel! Definately value your viewpoint but I loved the ending. The "scatting" and her "ad libs" at the end punctuate that KZ style. This is why we adore her so much: She's creative, unique and just flat out "different" from all other artists. Another brilliant reaction!

You said that KZ was really into the song..that she’s feeling it…..oh i believe you coz i felt it too.. But fun tidbit, during the rehearsals she’s having a major problem of NOT connecting with the song…..she’s NOT feeling it all…coz of the stress she’s having……if i remember it correctly the show made some sudden changes and they’ll do the changes on that same show date….she changed the song she’s prepared to this song, and so she wasn’t rehearsing for this….she was in a panic. …..she asked if the show will let her get her own personal guitarist from the Philippines (yep that’s him), they agreed!! And so in a very short amount of time she called the guitarist to hop on a plane and come over to China coz they’ll perform together!! As expected, the guitarist was shocked and thought it’s all a joke but then all the papers were taken care of….he got his ticket….guitar and bags on, he hopped on the plane….landed in a foreign country, knows zero mandarin, looked for the guy who’ll pick him up….and the rest is history. Fyi for those who doesn’t know yet..

Totally disagree re ending the song where you wanted coz then we wouldn't have heard the very haunting, heavenly, and angelic part that for me is the best part of the song. Their rendition of this already very emotional song, that they made even more emotional, was perfect in every which way for me personally. You could almost feel her intense emotions oozing and vibrating out from the screen. I don't know how many times I've watched and listened to this video, but every single time tears would automatically just flow uncontrollably. The abrupt ending is akin to some movies that kinda leave you hanging and wanting for more, but it probably was good here as the audience was put into emotional overload as it was. Just my two cents. ;)
For me the ending evokes unable to breathe pain,speechless to go on and an indescribable numbness about what to do next just my personal feelings of this beautiful rendition that always makes me cry and I’ve watched this hundreds of times as it encapsulates my past heartbreak. Love love kz

Did you know that kz and the guittarist rehearse it on a couple of hour ? . It is because the management of the show told kz to change her song which is royals. Thats how awesome and versatile kz is, and this is a legendary performance for me.

Instead they were recording it in two days so the staff could have time off for a holiday. Additionally, they told KZ to sing Say Something rather than what she had planned. Time with the band was very limited with everyone struggling to get ready in two days. In desperation, KZ called her guitarist Makoy Portado. On less than 24 hours notice, he flew from Manila to Shanghai. He arrived the morning of the show, they worked out the arrangement in the afternoon and performed it that evening. That's why the house band had a very limited participation. They may have been winging it once they got the drift of what KZ and Makoy were doing. That's just speculation on my part. Anyway, a fantastic job to pull that off in 12 hours or less.

What is interesting to know is that this performance was UNPLANNED. Due to the weeklong Chinese Lunar New Year (CLNY), the show had to film episodes 4&5 (this ep) back to back. The producers had to take into consideration that the orchestra cannot rehearse and perform with ALL contestants given the limited amount of time. Hence the producers decided to scrap the original song line up and gave the contestants the decision to chose an alternative song. KZ chose this song and had Makoy flown in from the Philippines stat! Filming for ep 4 ended at midnight, KZ and Makoy rehearsed until 2am. If not for the CLNY this performance would never have existed.
I have reàd that the producers change the song a night before the performance. They selected the song including the arrangements. But it's good that KZ knows the song a bit and she was glad the she is to collaborate with the guitarist Portado as there is no time to practice with the big band.

This song reminds me of my late mother, she died because of stroke, she was giving up on life before she passed away, thinking that she's only bringing us misfortune and troubles, she was telling us that we should just let her die because of how hard it is to take care of her (I was the one taking care of her so what she said at the time hit me too hard that it hurt me so much while I was behind her because I was holding her body so that she can eat while my sister feeds her) we were all crying by that time my sister was begging my mom to stop saying things like that, that no matter what happens we want her to get well but the next day she got another stroke and that lead her to coma that time we brought her back to the hospital and she died two days later. Kz's version of Say Something reminds me of my mom especially the line that she keeps repeating "I'm giving up, I'm giving up, I'm giving up on you" I just thought that if maybe I added something to what my sister said , maybe if I did say something maybe she will realize that sometimes I may sound irritated while taking care of her but I won't give up on taking care of her

My ending to me was not leaving for more, in fact it ended on a tonic which definitely doesn't leave you hanging. Anyway, personal preference :)
