- Tanzeela Qambrani is an activist, a computer scientist, and a politician. She belongs to the often overlooked and much exploited Sheedi community of Pakistan. The Sheedis trace their lineage to Africa, from where their ancestors were enslaved, shipped to Asia and sold into human bondage. In this talk she recounts a very personal journey of empowerment to becoming the first Afro-Pakistani woman MPA - a journey which echoed the struggle of her ancestors to win their freedom. Tanzeela Qimbrani is the first African-Pakistani woman to be elected as Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) in Sindh. Tanzeela earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and has been actively involved in promoting equality throughout her career. She has used training sessions and workshops to empower people and has also been awarded many accolades including Sindh Devolved Social Service Programme for outstanding performance.
She feels the seat of the parliament is both an opportunity and a challenge for her as she has a new responsibility towards her community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
What an honorable person. This is the kind of politicians Pakistan needs.
What an inspiring woman. I hope she succeeds in every endeavour and in raising the voices of the Sheedi community. Ameen
This needs subtitles in English. It is so relevant today.
so true!
Yes is there an English version?? Anyone?
No doubt about it
The whole Pakistan proud of you mam,you are the strongest woman of Pakistan may Allah make you successful in every way of your life.
A proud moment for the sheedi community and for Pakistan. Mind you not all Africans were slaves. Malik Ambar of the Deccan region was an African king in the heart of India who fiercely defended his kingdom from the mughals. In fact Jahangir got so frustrated of being defeated by Malik Amber that he commissioned a portrait of himself cutting Malik Amber's head because he could only defeat him in his dreams.
Shaheen Iqbal Thank you for this. I have just looked him up on Wikipedia, really fascinating.
Thanks yaar
Thank you for pointing this out, the Africans came to this area as soldiers of Islam, they were not slaves at all. It was the Europeans who created this myth. Obviously because they controlled education, this story was propagated until eeverybody else believed it. Just look at the name they were given sayeeds, meaning rulers in Arabic.
Most Africans weren't slaves
Most are exiles from the Zanj rebellion
@@Tippy257 most Africans were not even slaves here.
I’m listening but also admiring her sense of style and fashion.

Great Speech! Courageous Muslim Lady. Carrying true Pakistani Spirit in her heart. Because Pakistan is a Country for everyone who resides there. The origin shouldn't matter even the constitution gives this right and above all for Allah there is no difference. Think about the possibilities through such eloquent personalities...they make Pakistan so much richer. 😊

I DON’T understand the language at all, but I give you my all support.
Basically, Ms Qambrani is talking about is how Sheedis were brought from Africa, and their journey, how things have changed, her own families educational success on an individual level, her political career, stumbling blocks (such as some minority of people saying she's not fit for political office due to her background), followed by her political success, her families support.

There is always racism everywhere in the world.
there is no racism in pakistan,it is my personal experience
Rosita London she is literally talking about the racism she faced.
@@rositalondon6439 your very bold to assume there’s no racism in Pakistan! As a Pakistani and someone who comes from minority background I can say Pakistan needs to learn a lot since there’s tons of racism in Pakistan!
@@alinamaria5834 there’s no racism in Pakistan!i am sure for that, but you are an indian not pakistani ,the reason you are talking against
@@rositalondon6439 I was born and raised in Pakistan✌🏽 you just have a really shallow mindset!
