    FYI for everyone. On the Dell Inspiron 3505's when you put the retaining clip back in you must start at the top to hinge the clip in first and then snap in the bottom. I tried starting from seating the bottom first and then snapping in the top and almost broke the retaining clip on the left side.

      If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

    Thank you 🙏 for you awesome and detailed video.
    My Dell G15 “D” key popped off, but in my case the retaining clip was still attached to the key that popped off and not attached to the keyboard as in your video. I didn’t panic but gently disconnected the retaining clip from the D title at the corners like you showed then followed your video to reattach the clip to the keyboard then to reattach the tile to the keyboard and BINGO it worked perfectly.
    Once again thank you soooooo much for this great video 🎥

    Today out of nowhere my s key suddenly started becoming lose so I just shut down my laptop and left it there for a few hours and when I came back the s key had just completely become unlose without me touching it at all. When I looked at the s key that white thing came off with it and was stuck with the key so i took it off and tried putting the white thing back in the s key slot but I'm having a lot of difficulty putting it back in as the top 2 hooks won't get in while the bottom 2 do fit in so i'm panicking a bit. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 3500.
    If you could please respond asap as i'm sort of panicking right now because i've only has it for 3 months and already having issues.
    Quick update, either I have a very poorly made laptop or the metal they use to make the hooks is incredibly weak because the top left hook just fell off, I really don't know what to do.

      I have a Dell Inspiron 3505 and I am having the same issue with the S and D key. I've reseated the key by putting the retainer clip on the keyboard first and then the key, and that fails. I've also tried by keeping the retainer clip on the key and then attaching/sliding the retainer clip in place at top, then popping the bottom of it back down. However, once the key is seated when I press the key at the top, the bottom portion of the key/hinge comes right up and the key can be taken off. I cannot see any damage to the hinge, the keycap, or the metal hooks on the keyboard. I've ordered two new keys to replace them and I'm really hoping this will fix the issue. It seems like once the keys come off the first time they will not go back on securely. This should not be the issue at all and they should snap back in place each time if they are properly removed and reattached. In your case Ahmed I would consider using your warranty because if they metal hooks break or come off then I think you may need a new keyboard installed. I don't think those hooks can be fitted again.

    This a.m. removed key tab cover and there are 2 square-ish black plastic pcs under the cap that are no longer joined together. I can barely make out any pins on them or which side should be down or up. I barely detect some ridges on one side. Should those ridges go in first? And does the center sq go on top or on the bottom of the frame of the second pc? Really I am having trouble with vision on this project

    • @PC_Monkey

      If you are referring to the hinge clips that have come apart, They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.

      If the key caps pops off then its not attached to the retainer clip correctly. If the key cap pops off with the retainer clip still attached, then the retainer clip isnt attached correctly to the keyboard. It could just need to be attached correctly or it could be damaged and unable to attach correctly.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hinge clip has come apart in two and you cannot get it back together? The rubber spring is coming up with the key? The rubber spring is not supposed to be removed. There really is no good way to repair that. You can try a little bit of glue but if that does not work, then you would need to replace the keyboard.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the retainer clip is the reason for it being loose then yes, that will fix. If the issue is the metal pins on the keyboard are loose or the key cap is damaged then no, replacing the clip wont help.

    My W and D keys keep popping out partially (as in, usually only one side of them pops up) but i honestly can't tell what the issue is.
    Trying to take the key out usually results in the larger clip detaching from both the keyboard AND the key, while the smaller one stays hooked onto the key. However whenever they pop out halfways as mentioned before, the clips aren't connected to the keyboard. Pushing down doesn't seem to work to connect them.
    Also, the rubber cap from W has come loose and shifts around if i try to readjust the key sometimes.
    Any advice for this?

    • @PC_Monkey

      Regarding the Rubber Spring; There isnt really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.
      Regarding the Hinge Clip coming apart in two; They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.

      There isnt really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.

    I spilled pineapple juice all over my laptop and tried to clean around the keys with alcohol, but many are still sticky. So I lifted up one more-inconsequential key (just the very top black part, not the hinged part) to see if I could clean and replace it, but now I can't get it back on for the life of me. It doesn't pop back on as shown at the end of this video. The little white hinge can be slightly pulled up, and I almost feel like it needs to be lifted a bit to allow the little inserts in the black piece to pop in, but that still doesn't work (I tried holding the white part up slightly with a long fingernail.) I'd really appreciate anyone who has any ideas! Thank you!
