Hey man! I know this video is almost twelve years old now (half my age 😂) but you seriously saved my ass, I was sittin here trying to figure out how the hell to do this then I saw you do it with nothin but a socket extension and a crescent wrench and I thought damn, maybe this won’t be so bad after all haha. Seriously thought it was gonna be a massive pain but nope! Thanks to you I got it done. And as far as I’m aware this is the only video around that shows this technique and it’s an absolute life saver! So thanks!

Thanks. Just bought a 6.0 a few months ago. Had to replace about everything on it (Bullet proof it). Then the clutch fan went belly up. This video helped.

I see by the dates on your videos, you're doing this job RIGHT NOW. I'll be about 5-6 weeks behind you as I'm currently saving for some parts before I start tearing my '05 down. I'll be interested to see future videos of the tear down - I'm sure they'll be ultra helpful to me when I do mine!
    THANKS!

Note... The round holes are indicative of pre-2005 and those pulleys are THIN. They are weak and break. Replace with a 2005+ pulley which have elongates holes and are MUCH thicker.

I plan to replace my fan clutch soon with a snowplow clutch. I think mine is bad. I get a P0528 Fan Speed Sensor code and I never herd the fan kick on. I just finished plowing the blizzard and my operating temps ran between 206 and 220. My Bully Dog tuner would disengage when the temp went over 210. I hope the new clutch will keep my temps down. Thanks for the video.

You make it look easy. The big nut on the fan clutch on mine appears to be staked. I don’t think I can get enough swing to overcome staking.

The common problems pertaining to water pump is the cavitation that occurs from the blade causing erosion of the interior cover! Make sure to use new bolts! I have found that the replacement bolts are of a different material.

  • @JamesRRossII

I was in the process of pulling the engine. To get the impeller, just remove radiator and f.an
The whole front cover needs to come off, pulleys etc.

    • @jamesross5923

JamesRRossII just had to redo the head gaskets. So with the rust here in NH, I had to take a torch to the bolt to heat it up. Then it lossend up real easy.

Random question, have you had any problems with your water pump pulley since you've had your 6.0? Mine sheered off at the bolts on the front of it twice. I'm guessing it's because my water pump may have seized up but I'm wondering if it may be a common occurrence with the 6.0.

Would this cause the fan clutch to be loud when engaged?
Was making a loud noise like a bud shifting when old fan clutch was on. Put a brand new fan clutch and orginal blades and still same noise when engaged.
I’m thinking the blades are bad since they are 15 years old with 350k on them .
    Any ideas?

I bought a new clutch and installed it. It was bad from the factory and alr3ady locked up. Had to return and replace it. When locked, it sounds like a jet engine with an afterburner engaged.

Should spin freely so until temp above 230 engages and locks it up.

@@finishmasters so if I open a brand new box and I should be able to spin it by hand similar to a wheel bearing correct.

By the time you drive to auto zone, talk to the knuckleheads behind the counter and fjnlly return with the wrench, you would already be done my way. Also you could just save the time and money and get a case of beer. I have the specialty tools and some of them cost 500 bucks.

If you use the fan clutch from a 7-3 and the adapter from BulletProofDiesel your fan shroud still fits
