      I know you probably won't see this but in the hopes that you do- I know you're into Nic-Cage movies so I wanted to recommend a hidden gem of his I found yesterday called Drive Angry. Obviously I would love to see a video with your opinion on it but from one Cage fan to another I just wanted to recommend this movie as I think you might find it both quite interesting and/or amusing of a concept (Also it's one Hell of a ride from start to finish).

      I did a tour of duty @ Fallujah, Iraq. Smells like shit, it's dusty, it's dirty. Friendly people and kids for the most part. If you like donkeys, there was like 2 dozen free range donkeys. Also, there was a strange cryptid like creature I saw a few times. I believe that it was a nocturnal desert creature.

    Very interesting fact: The nurses in the first Silent Hill film were played by professional dancers, which is why they were able to stay uncannily still, like mannequins, and then contort their bodies in such creepy ways.
    Years ago I actually had the privilege to meet one of the dancers that was on the movie set when I was at Comic Con in Manhattan, NY. The woman didn’t have her own “Meet & Greet” set up, or anything like that, she was just someone I struck up a long conversation with and she told the story about her playing one of the nurses in the film. According to her, she was a ballet dancer since she was a child and it had taken her years to learn how to move her body in such “Artistic” ways. She was a fascinating person, I wish I remembered her name.

      The setup was terrible. They just rushed through things, killed off Douglas, made Kit Harington a friendly Vincent and went to different locations, had Heather run into a different monster there and then moved on. It's like they tried to say "Okay, I want to tell the story of the third game, since it's so popular, but I don't want to spend time to do it." First movie had at least a good mystery and suspense with the visuals.

      In my opinion you can't make a viable movie that way, with this specific of a story you either make a perfect copy of it or try making something entirely new based upon what the game considers cannon. While I love the first movie I think they could have done a way better job if they didn't include ANY video game characters like Cybil, the Lying figure, Pyramid head and just made new monsters like the bathroom dude. The second movie flopped EXTREMELY on that regard. Just my opinion but I think alot of people would agree and movies in general would benefit from thinking about what I just said.

    Out of all the horror movies I've seen, when it comes to sheer visually brutal deaths; dragging a screaming person up a stairwell, ripping their clothes off with one fell swoop leaving them screaming and exposed for a few seconds, then proceeding to rip most of their skin off with one hand and flinging it against church doors is one of the most brutal death scenes ever.

But one thing that always stuck with me was that by the time the movie had ended it had gotten quite dark outside, and we ended up walking back to my house which took us past this eerily quiet, foggy stretch of road with a lot of trees off to the side. What they did to Vincent in the second movie infuriates me. Vincent in the games is one of my favorite characters, he's super complex and really fits the series idea of shady bizarre characters. Through the whole game you have no clue what side he's really on and a lot of what he says is confusing and you don't know if he's telling the truth or just fucking with Heather. I also like how he does believe in the cults religion but he wants to use them to enjoy earthly pleasures, which is why he doesn't want God to be resurrected. But no why have that when you can have boring cardboard cutout. Also killing off Douglas at the beginning is just awful because he's also a very interesting and kind of sad character when you find out more about his life. Hell even Claudia is completely ruined because while she's a villian in 3 she's borderline sympathetic as she was indoctrinated into the cult against her will by her Father who also abused her. I could honestly go on for hours about my issues with Revelation it's just horrible. While I have my issues with the first movie like the SH2 monsters that shouldn't be there and the overreliance on gore it at least feels like it was trying to keep the feeling of the games somewhat.

I agree with everything you said about Vincent and Douglas too.

    • @gRinchY-op5vr
      @gRinchY-op5vr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Killing off Douglas at the beginning of Revelations totally misses the point of the connection he and Heather build through the game, she is a child who lost her dad and he is a dad who lost his child. Heather may not realise this connection until near the end of the game but Douglas clearly does earlier, he isn't just helping her out because he feels he's somewhat responsible for Harry being located and killed. Agreed on Vincent, the writers of Revelations apparently felt he was "boring" in the game...I have no idea what version of SH3 they looked up for source material because Vincent is easily one of the best characters in the SH games.

      @Proserpira 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@papafloppa Kind of. Before settlers came, it was used as a place for rituals by Native Americans, but was _not_ an native american burial ground.
      Also, the Silent Hill was deemed already mystical _before_ being used as ritual grounds, so it's safe to assume the place is just Like That.
      Someone proposed the theory that it was already Like That, then Native Americans used it as a ritual ground, then the mysterious epidemic happened, then after the settlers arrived people started to disappear, then Alessa's story happens and it was the last straw that broke the camel's back and everything imploded.
      That does explain how Alessa's influence spread all over Silent Hill (and a bit further if you consider Shepherd's Glen to be canon) and how powerful she was despite not being as strong before it started going down. It could have been made worse by all the previous things that happened.

    To this day, the first silent hill film in my opinion remains to be the best video game adaption ever made. They switched around the characters, themes, and story, sure, but that's what adaptations do. They nailed the atmosphere and no other horror movie has left such a lasting impression on me.

      Yeah, movie adaptations of video games have so many that just flopped that it was amazing to see one that actually captured the same essence as the game did. I really like the first one.

    I actually really like SH1 movie even tho it has quite some flaws . Still I don't get why it has such low score , maybe people expected it to be a copy paste from first game. To me reimagining based on source material is far more interesting to see than watching something I already witnessed . Also that Pyramid head scene where it rips the skin is schocking , deffinetly the highlight of the movie.

    I just watched Silent Hill again recently (saw it originally in theaters), and I thought it was much better than I remembered. It had a great atmosphere, excellent score, and was well directed and acted. I never played any of the Silent Hill games but still found the movie a fun watch.

    I know the movies werent received well, but honestly, as a huge silent hill fan, I enjoyed seeing the mechanics and aesthetic of silent hill brought to life. Though the first one was by far better, it's hard for me to not like them somewhat. It's like the resident evil movies, both went their own ways with the story but the movies are fun enough on their own.

    • @GhostofaSiren

      YES, ty. I love the music and the atmosphere and the monsters, because they were pulled from the game. Then the movie tried to go on its own with so many unnecessary changes it just made me sad. The first three games are some of my favorite things ever, so it was such a disappointment. I've watched the first movie several times, hoping it would get better for me later, but it never has, and just leaves me sadder than I was before, lol.

      @@GhostofaSiren At least the first one LOOKED good and the acting was way better. I was always so sad they killed off Cybil cuz she was my favorite actor in the movie. The second one though, oof. Silent hill 3 was my favorite and to know the dude couldn't even make it through the game before making a damn movie on it, really showed. It missed the passion I feel that the first had. Heather was my all-time favorite character, and Vincent being turned into a love-interest type person was just so weird. They straight up butchered the story to hell and back. Actually, this reminds me there's a fan made silent hill 3 movie here on TH-cam that was actually pretty good and true to the game. Idk why Christophe Gans hated the characters of Silent Hill. Cause there was an article that had him say he used women in the film cause why would a man be scared of a giant pyramid head monster like BRUH who wouldn't be terrified of that?! But really his sexism helped give us wonderful characters in the film.
