I was 9 yo when first time played id demo with ambush mission
I played this game for the first time when i was 6 years old. Now i'm 20 and i'm still playing it and this game is so much better than the new games in my opinion. I don't care if the graphics are bad because this game has one of the best campaigns & engines i have ever witnessed
So much time lost in the editor. At one point a had a 3 mission campaign with a dramatic intro and a stealth sniper mission followed by a huge battlefield. Good times

They should remake the old game in Arma 3 engine. I would love to see the 80s woodland and gear in new graphics and good old M16A2 with no attachments no rails.
If it means anything, there was a remake of the game for ArmA II called Cold War Rearmed. The main release contains a remake of the main islands and campaigns, with additional content like the third campaign (this was not made by BIS, so it's not been in many releases) and other islands.

Jirka Dusek CWR2 is a really, really cool mod, and it brings me a smile each time I play it. I highly recommend it!
Now that Arma3 is out it would be great to have customizeable clothings in 80 style. Hope there will be atleast addons and not just retexture but actual parts of clothes like in arma 3. That comes for any time period both arma 2 and liberation 44
Jirka Dusek There is a cold war mod for Arma 3 though it isn't CWR, and there are M81 woodland patern uniforms in Arma 3 already, but they are hidden from view in the editor. Use the ASCZ missing content addon to unlock them. Community Update Project and RHS's US and Russian federation armed forces / escalation mod have many weapons and vehicles of the present and near past.

Oh old Flashpoint, amazing game
I love the symbolism of the flash, representing the state between life and death. although no flash is actually seen in the game when you die, the idea that someone could be alive one moment and dead the next is a constant theme in the arma series.

its a game from 2001, back then having a character that had blinking eyes and a moving mouth that talks and that looked human and not some kind of texture mesh smeared all over its face was considered a technologial marvel lol
& graphics weren't bad either, it might looks primitive but it has certain aspects which was way ahead of its time for example when you are riding a jeep just look at outside it gives u feeling as if you are really in that part of world
Holy HELL! This brought a tear drop to my eye lol! Any of you Arma kids that missed out on the Operation Flashpoint days with *James Gustovski, David Armstrong, Robert Hammer, Sam Nichols and Colonel Blake* ,,,,you have my pity!
I must agree. Arma might be better in features, graphics, etc. but nothing beats OFP story. Also don't forget about Victor Troska from Resistance :)

Only been playing CWA for about two years but I love it more than ARMA 2 and 3 - its’ simplicity makes the experience more enjoyable. The game’s graphics remind me of that of the N64 which is pretty nostalgic, for me at least.
When I bought this game(gold edition: Operation Flashpoint, Red Hammer and Resistance) by chance, a few years had already passed since since it's original launching, and as you can see in the video, visually speaking was completly outdated, but, oh boy, I can only say that was one of the best videogames I ever played. Indeed grafics don't make the game. Bring back memories.

This game was the rise of the best shooters of the history combine tactics and fps, the way to play it (tanks, choopers, anti-tank guns, and the mods) was unique in it genre.
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis give to the player other game experience allowing to the player change his inventory and the team in the briefing and the campaings was something that change in the actual shooters.
Its 2012 and i still playing this game developed by Bohemia Interactive and distributed by Codemasters

Fr, and the fact that I keep getting Adrenaline rush everytime I play the mission causes me to just fast forward the game and hope for the best I won't get shot while trying to run to the other forest😭😭

İf this game would get a remake, it would beat every single shooter game now. No game had such physics like this game, full openworld missions. Team dies ? Mission doesn’t stop until you finish, entering every vehicle, picking up every gun u see, learning how to give commands to your soldiers as commander. İt’s just awesome

The first and original Operation Flashpoint (ofp: cold war crisis) was developed by Bohemia Interactive and published by Codemasters in 2001. BIS and CM then split up. Since CM owns the name ''Operation Flashpoint'', BIS changed the name to ArmA.
CM owns the name. BIS owns the game.
The real successor to the first operation flashpoint is arma. Same developers. Same engine. Just different name. Arma cold war assault is ofp cold war crisis.
Haha so many nostalgic freaks here. But yeah, I started playing this a few days ago and it's brilliant, it sure does beat the shit out of many newer games. So realistic and advanced.
Judging from his comment, he's the kind of person that probably, like me, was fooled into thinking Bohemia's ArmA series was this legendary unappreciated thing. It turns out, some games earn their obscurity.
Operation Flashpoint wasn't developed by Bohemia, it was developed by Codemasters in case you didn't know. Re releasing game is a cheap way to earn a buck. The least they could have done was updated the polygon count to a decent amount.
Bohemia is the EA of independent developers.

The ironic and funny thing about this is that the Red River and Dragon Rising games were mostly unpolished piles of crap. They didn't sell well or get good ratings. ArmA II has a large modding community because lots of people love and cherish the game. It has been this way since the days of Flashpoint. I'm not sure why you are so buttdevastated about it. Bohemia made a series for a niche market, but they succeeded. This is possible because Bohemia isn't under some restraining publisher like EA.
i wish this game was redone for the xbox one and ps4 :( because i hate playing the arma series sometimes

Ah Ofp that was still the best of all Arma games in my opinion. especially the chopper & plane controls were much better than in Arma2 which force you to use a damn joystick to use them properly but that's only my opnion. Never the less Arma forever! :)

there is already a mod for arma 1 and 2 called cold war rearmed. in the mod there is the ofp campaing and resistance + all the veichles and units

Theo ne bout this game that should‘ve been in the newer games too are the episodes af death animations. My only critic of this game is that us infantry wears sleeping bags instead of lc2 light packs on their back.

why the new armas never had a campaign like OFP, you start like infantry, then logistics, a tank commander, ah pilot, a10 pilot, special forces, commander etc. in the new armas in the best scenario they let you be a tank commander and thats all, what a shame
Older war games were just better. Medal of Honor, old CoD, old Battlefield, etc. Now shit is focused a lot on multiplayer so companies neglect the single player content.

That's the user score. But nevermind the ratings, critics and users alike can be misinformed or biased. Can't always go by "professional" critics or majority rules.
I'm not a fanboy of Dragon Rising. I thought it was decent, not greatly innovative or anything. Again, it was at least a polished, finished product as I remember it. I just don't see the need to demonize the game instead of Bohemia, where Bohemia are the ones exploiting the free labor of modders.
This is all I have to say.
There are people that dont like play it, because "It's very difficult" and you die with a bullet only, they prefer to play modern warfare games... but I must say them : They don't know anything about games.... OFP WILL NEVER DIE !!
