Antonio is really an all-round nice gentleman. Years back, I stayed in a home where there were pictures on the wall of Angelina Jolie, Banderas and other casts members including the host. Found out from them that they were indeed wonderful people.
Bold sketches from both Banderas and Colbert; taking on Picasso’s art style while being timed is no simple task! 🖊 We love hearing about how the role of Picasso informed Antonio, just as his masterful portrayal in Genius: Picasso impacted us.
There’s an even more well known story about Picasso. During the Spanish civil war the city of Guernica was bombed by the condor legion, an event Picasso painted. At a showing a German diplomat said, wine in hand, words close to “who is responsible for this horror,” to which Picasso said “you are.” That would have been nice to see.
The "Condor" air-element were there at the 'request' of Franco (who in modern terms would be described as "Hitler's bitch") and the idea that Picasso or ANYONE else could 'insult' or 'demean' in any manner the actions of the 'Reich' and 'walk away' is just as you wrote...'a story'.Had Picasso actually made that statement...his corpse would hanging in Guernica minutes later!
Yes, of course it 'could have been after the War'...(I have extreme doubts that it would've occurred during the War!) And the 'attributed remark' to any German in 'Reich occupied territory' by Picasso is rubbish! He would've been executed for it...therefore since he survived the War, the 'statement' was never made.
Stephen Colbert is just getting better and better. A great interview in equal part down to Antonio being who he is and Stephen letting us find that out by giving him the space to talk. Perfect.
Even though he’s a few years older now. I’d still part with my money for another zorro film. Nobody will ever play that role any better than the legend that is Antonio Banderas.
Anybody remember _Mambo Kings?_ Now THERE was a performance. Not many actors can do such a great job without understanding A SINGLE WORD of what they're saying!
Articulate, intelligent, charming. I still can't believe he wasted so many years with Melanie Griffith. I hope his life "esta muy contenta ahora". Thank you for all of your good work.
Well he wasted his time with a known drug addict, alcoholic, spoiled brat who took half his fortune and is asking for 60 grand every month. Why did he ever get with that trainwreck only he knows.
Great Interview! I think he did a fantastic job in Mambo KIngs. His pain and emotions really hit you. Seems like a really nice and sincere man. Wish him all the best.
Malagueño! Ay, Antonio. He came up with one of the best reactions I've seen. In that movie with SJP, there's a scene where she's going on about being shy, and says "You're so passionate!" Antonio gave the BEST eyeroll. Still cracks me up!
Super divino.❤😮😅😂
Stephen, can I please have Antonio's Picasso drawing of you? I adore it. I love art, I love Stephen Colbert, and Antonio Banderas actually did a lovely portrait of you. Really brings out your eyes. It's perfect. It makes me happy.
Damn, the man is gorgeous on every level! Age only makes him more interesting. 😍👌🏻 And he was phenomenal in _Dolor y gloria_ ! I'm glad he recieved his overdue recognition in Cannes lately with the prestigious Palme d'Or (golden palm). Verry deserved! 🌴👏🏻 By the way, my American friends, for whatever reason Colbert keeps talking about Málaga like it were some unknown Spanish hicktown, it's... really not! I'm not Spanish but Málaga is well-known among tourists as the second biggest city of Andalusia and a vacation hotspot. 👌🏻
The metro population of Detroit is 4.5 million Nearly three times that of malaga. The city itself holds 700,000. And we’re looking at depleted numbers here because Detroit has had it rough economically for a number of years. America has 279 million more citizens then Spain you simply can’t compare city sizes there will be an obvious difference.
Let's not get too technical here folks. Simply speaking, by definition, Malaga and Detroit are both considered cities...that is my point. Besides, last I checked, Malaga had a population of 569,009. Whereas Detroit had 672,795 - not an incredible difference. Detroit is 370 km² Malaga is 398 km² Economics aside, I was simply pointing out that they are both cities by definition. "Malaga is a municipality, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Spain. With a population of 569,130 in 2015, it is the second-most populous city of Andalusia and the sixth-largest in Spain." References en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A1laga en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit
IN SPAIN Malaga is a city my point is from Stevens perspective it's not totally outraguos to call it a town. Also, good job getting the exact number for the city but totally ignoring the metro numbers. You don't care dude just admit it you got your feelings hurt over a minor comment.
Great to see Banderas, lovely guy. We all get older folks, he’s still handsome and moreover has an awesome personality
Oh he is a wonderful actor and beautiful man. Yummy.
Yeah agree
Jackie chan is 64
December 2617 It states here that Jackie Chan is age 64. I'm age 64 too. Him & I are the same age. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Chan
And awesome voice.
I din't know Banderas much outside his films but he seems like an absolute joy to be around! Wonderful interview
Antonio is really an all-round nice gentleman. Years back, I stayed in a home where there were pictures on the wall of Angelina Jolie, Banderas and other casts members including the host. Found out from them that they were indeed wonderful people.

Please do Leonardo Da Vinci as the next genius in the next genius series
@@AveenFernando Next would be Martin Luther King Jr
@@AveenFernando YES! Please
See how beautifully he's aging? Just sitting there, looking fine & letting us enjoy his lovely accent...
Aw, I love when people say they like spanish accent because I'm spanish and I really don't like it xd
His voice just soothes my soul. I also want to re-watch Zorro now.
Just Killing Time don't just talk about it, do it man
The life of Picasso is certainly a heck of a story.
Yeah the guys a weirdo
The Life of Pablo is certainly a heck of a album.
So true.
Antonio screaming „It’s a Picasso!” after drawing Stephen, is probably the sweetest moment ever aired on this show 😊
There’s an even more well known story about Picasso. During the Spanish civil war the city of Guernica was bombed by the condor legion, an event Picasso painted. At a showing a German diplomat said, wine in hand, words close to “who is responsible for this horror,” to which Picasso said “you are.” That would have been nice to see.
CAP198462 Yes...that would be nice. I'm sure they wouldn't leave it out.
CAP198462 great story.
@Gerry Nightingale. He painted the destruction of Guernica in France. The showing could have been elsewhere and much later after the war.
He deserves everything! A brilliant human being 🙂
Stephen Colbert is just getting better and better. A great interview in equal part down to Antonio being who he is and Stephen letting us find that out by giving him the space to talk. Perfect.

He's such a pleasant guy . A pleasure seeing him.
I am a painter, and very happy to see an actor like Antonio portray an artistic genius like Pablo Picasso. I approve!

THANK YOU!!
I didn't think I was going to love this interview as much as I did, fucking loved it.
Better than the Comey debacle for sure
I liked it
Watch Banderas on Craig Ferguson. That older interview is less serious, but quite enjoyable as well
He’s such a delight ❤️
Still a handsome, classy. talented guy after all these years.
Wow! That scene he acted at 4:47 was sensational! He is truly amazing! A pleasure on and off scene! Thank you Antonio!
Finally a guest we can lean something from as against the hordes of people who have nothing to say but tell stories about their kids
Yes! One of the first. They should have also mentioned him in desperato, such an amazing movie
Sterlin Charles. The movies mentioned were a weird choice in general.
Anybody remember _Mambo Kings?_ Now THERE was a performance. Not many actors can do such a great job without understanding A SINGLE WORD of what they're saying!
"Once Upon a Time in Mexico" is still one of my favorite films.:)
Jason Bean yes awesome movie!
Not even close to the two first movies...
Dude !Desperado! you mean..
The whole trilogy is awesome.
What a lovable guy
Articulate, intelligent, charming. I still can't believe he wasted so many years with Melanie Griffith. I hope his life "esta muy contenta ahora". Thank you for all of your good work.
D. James why “wasted”?
D. James Just couldn’t see those two together.
Hi, Deborah. And to be fair, men will be men, and often use their penis for a brain. Happens to the best of them!!
Well he wasted his time with a known drug addict, alcoholic, spoiled brat who took half his fortune and is asking for 60 grand every month. Why did he ever get with that trainwreck only he knows.
They had a beautiful daughter.
That crowd needs to be educated about Flamenco, you don't clap like that in the presence of a spanish guitar, you just listen
Sohaib it actually wreaked the lovely sounds of the guitar. I would have loved to have just listened to the music.
Omg it was the whitest thing ever I loved it in an ironic way
Alex Ortiz TF u talking about bro, Spanish people are white. Spanish= Western Europe= Europe= White people. TF you on 😂😂
Alex Ortiz spanish people are white.
Jake Andersson So all Europeans are white?!? Gtfoh! 🙄
'Dad I can't go to my mother with the handcuffs' 😂❤
Picasso is possibly the most important person of the 20th century... there was a time when we celebrated creativity with respect.
Totally Dignified. Love Antonio~ Such a Classy guy.
This is so wholesome, what wonderful human beings
Loved this guy since I saw him in once upon a time in Mexico, viva Antonio Banderas! This guy ages like fine wine
What an amazing, intelligent man Antonio is!
He directed one of my favorite movies it's called "Crazy in Alabama". I'm thankful that Colbert let Antonio do most of the talking in this interview.
I really liked this interview, well done!
Spanish people ALWAYS give character to stories. I love it ❤
wow I grew up watching this dude... DESPERADO is still one my favorite movies of all time
Great Interview! I think he did a fantastic job in Mambo KIngs. His pain and emotions really hit you. Seems like a really nice and sincere man. Wish him all the best.
I love antonio.. so humble...
I haven't seen this guy in years. He looks fantastic!
Antonio’s own life, his anecdotes, like his little brush with the Franco’s police can make a very good movie, too.
I fucking love this show. What a great, fun way to end an interview.
he is such a cool guy, one of the best actors in the world
The guy is really cool, better than in movies.
What a character! he seems so much like the characters he plays...I'm looking forward to seeing this!
Such a cool guy, never change Antonio!!
What a nice guy Banderas!!!! I miss my home country Spain....! Far away here in Australia.
I fucking love this interview, Antonio telling those stories about him and Picasso was fantastic! I even had to repeat the entrance.
Christ I could listen to Antonio Banderas allllll day. His performances in _Desperado_ and _Evita_ contributed so much to my sexual awakening.
This was a really great interview, I love how they both had the same idea for the sketch!
what an adorable man
His voice is so spicy
He’s such an adorable person ☺️
Hola Antonio from La Cala in Málaga province, Spain!
He’s still so handsome! I can’t wait to see his portrayal of Picasso
He will forever be known to me as the father of Carmen and Juni Cortez
This man has everything a human should have. I love this human.
Oh man... I actually think this might be good. I haven't seen a good painter/artist movie since, what, the Pollock or Kahlo movies?
martinaee
Mike Leigh's Mr. Turner was very acclaimed?
I watched that Kahlo movie a long time ago. It was pretty good. Alfred Molina was great in that movie.
Goya with natalie portman is marvellous
Pollock with ed harris fantastic and oscar nominated My VINCEnt is a must see🌹🌹🌹🖤
You have to see Vincent!
I’ll still love him no matter what. He just aged beautifully like a nice 🍷 wine

Two nights in a row with actors from the Spy Kids franchise. Last night, it was Alan Cumming, and now Antonio Banderas.
as a classically trained artist…. honestly stephen was giving me guernica yo that was tight
Malagueño! Ay, Antonio. He came up with one of the best reactions I've seen. In that movie with SJP, there's a scene where she's going on about being shy, and says "You're so passionate!" Antonio gave the BEST eyeroll. Still cracks me up!
he's old, but still very good looking
Jazzlex how old is he?
vivthetartan HOLY FUCK!!

I guess the "No clapping during Flamenco" sign didn't light up huh

Here I am, living in Malaga, watching Steve screw up with the name of my City :p
I know that's bad ... but you've just screwed up Stephen's name.
Furthermore, your city is spelled "Málaga" ;-)
Wow i remember when i would watch his films as a kid

So cool to hear the story and history from Mr. Banderas whos an authentic native Spaniard and how Picasso was a national hero :) wow
Damn, the man is gorgeous on every level! Age only makes him more interesting. 😍👌🏻 And he was phenomenal in _Dolor y gloria_ !

he’s such an icon, ilovehimsomuch
Favorite actor. Hands down
Malaga, small town??
At least do your research if you're gonna interview the guy.
Malaga is one of the most famous cities on Spain...
That would just make it a large town in America Stephens perspective isn't necasarilly wrong.
You know what, you are right.
It just seems weird hearing it being called a small town.
Think as if Detroit was called a small town.
The metro population of Detroit is 4.5 million Nearly three times that of malaga. The city itself holds 700,000.
