But kudos to them for doing what feels right. Don't let anybody dictate the artistic direction of your band!
Artists don't have an easy time nowadays. Especially musicians. They are under constant pressure of society telling them what music they should and shouldn't do. The question is, should the band be a slave just so that the crowd stays entertained, or should the band stay true to themselves and be free even if it meant that the crowd wouldn't understand their message? Much respect for Within Temptation. You guys rock!

Within Temptation is not just any band. It is a band, in which in my case, it has been the salvation. I am a person with a disability, which over time gets worse. I have been a victim of bullying, harassment, victim of gender violence. In 2004, it was the traumatic year in my life. We suffered my family, an episode of sexist violence, I had many problems with people, they beat me, because of my sexual condition (for being gay), for being different and having a disability. It was in that year, when I met Within Temptation. You have given me a lot of strength to fight for my family, to get up every day with a reason to live. Thanks to the band and all the people behind the band. Looking forward to seeing you in Spain at a concert, and meeting you in person. Keep creating music, that even though many say that you are stalled for a while, remember that even as young as I am, you are giving it life. Long live Within Temptation.
This is one of the few bands that really, truly, never does retread old material. I've been listening to the band since I "accidentally" discovered them around "Silent Force", and they've never sounded the same on ANY of their records. And for the love of Christ, Sharon, START AGING already or tell us where you've stashed the fountain of youth.
WT has been one of my favorite bands since I was 14 or 15. 30 now and I still love them, and I swear Sharon hasn't aged a day. Saw them in Seattle a year or two ago and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to!
I actually met the band in Seattle in May of '07. They & The Gathering were supporting bands for Lacuna Coil, and the tour was nicknamed The Hottest Chicks in Metal Tour. It was actually VERY low keyed and the venue seemed quite small in retrospect. All three bands were all very approachable after their sets. Sharon was awesome to meet and talk to but I swear I talked to her in garble. Typical guy. The bass player Jeroen offered me a cigarette as I talked to him. I swear I was about to take him up on it if I actually smoked. Very cool people and an amazing band!! I'll never forget it.

One thing I've noticed over the years is Sharon uses her hands a lot in her performances. I've never been disappointed in any of their songs. Love your work.

I don't feel anyone has to defend WT with their music choice, but I will anyway: They are making the music they want to make. Their music would suck and we would all hate it if they were making the music we wanted them to make. Do some people like the older music better? Of course do some people love the newer music better? Absolutely. The important part is do THEY love the music they are making? If they are doing it to make money, I am saddened for them, if they are absolutely in love with what they accomplished, my heart is on fire with joy for them. I for one will always find part of my life that your music can be an anthem for as long as you feel for your music. Keep making the music that expresses who you are and we will continue to find our truth in it. K ow that we ache to hear what your heart and soul has to express to us.
I know how you feel. I haven't even bought the last album, but I kinda like this song, specially the video. Somehow I feel it's pretty selfish if I wish to control the sound of the band just because I like the symphonic Era. Peoples evolve, try new things, listen to new things. It's more easy if acept that all the symphonic stuff is done and let them be happy
I actually love this band for the reason a lot of fans are angry. They change a lot, they do what they want to do with music, and I value that a lot more than keeping a constant style. If they do what they want it will be better than if they do something just because it is "their style".
Well said. I will admit that I prefer their older music, but I don't dislike the new stuff. Just a preference. No one's preference is better than another's, we just appreciate their musical ability with different work.
One of the biggest reasons Within Temptation became my favorite band was their diversity. I like a lot of bands and there are a few I even love, but WT has been the only band where I can find a song for any mood I'm in. They also have a deep emotional connection with their music that makes it feel so genuine. I love their old albums, but I'm also loving these new songs and eagerly await more! Stay true WT and rock on!
I agree with you. I have loved Within Temptation since I was 15, which was 15 years ago, and I love them just as much now as I did then. I love that they change it up. It really shows how talented they are and that they make their music based off of what matters to them and not by what some whiny babies missing old music they can listen to whenever they want already demand from them.
Within Temptation has been a huge part of my life growing up, as early as elementary school I remember listening with my older sister. I obviously love the evolution of the music! Both the old and the new is so amazing, even as different as they are from one another. Truly a band I think I will always be listening to.
It's really love a new concept for WT but a great success, once again a proof that WT is an incredible band with a lot of talent. I'm very proud to live WT since all these years.
Its amazing how there are people who make such great things at such a young age. I remeber their concert with Metropolitan Orchestra, I think Sharon was about 30 years old. And they had already written their best albums thus far. Just... Mind blowing. I have really the greatest respect and admiration for people like them.

OMG I have so many things to say about this video. It's totally mind blowing. I love all the references to comics like Harley Quinn, The Crow or Joker, movies like The Matrix or tv shows like AHS. The song is in loop since the release day and I guess also the music video will be played several times. You guys are so freaking cool and as usual you did a great job. Love you so much xx
Sharon looking like she's gone insane is so quirky and fun and HYPNOTIZING. The noir elements mixed in with the color and sci fi elements looks so good too. Also... now I definitely want to go watch the Lacuna Coil Nothing Stands London live clip since they both have the circus/defiance thematic too. This is the band we all know and love. And to any dissenters who keep saying they're pop sellouts or they're not as good as they used to be...the song's message is for you
Do not fall in the trap of cowardice, they make the music like this, to be a coping nechanism for fragile weak people. It is only marketing, it's catchy and heart strocking to atract more people, for them to have more money and popularity. The world is not that bad, you see it in dark colors. Anyone has a place into the world. No, you do not have to be a sheep to fit in. But, you also do not have to give up on geting out, experiencing people, haveing friends, living your life, you have to stand up for yourself because no one will. You have put the mask of "outcast" for yourself, you have some inner problems that needs to be solved by yourself. Music won't help you in life, in fact it will break it apart, maybe ruin it in the worst case scenario. Please, please do not waste your life. Go see a therapist, it is not a shame.
Finally a cool clip of yours. It's been a while. The contrast of light and dark, the artistic approach, the crazy-funny themes combined. At some point I felt like watching a Slipknot or Rammstein clip though in a positive sense. It fits you guys.

Can we talk about how Sharon is basically ageless? I followed them closely about 15yrs ago, but haven't looked them up in about 10yrs. She's still magically the same. I have a feeling she'll be beautiful and still have the voice of an angel when she's 90!
Been in love with Within Temptation since discovering them in 2006, opened my eyes to so many European Bands that i cannot live without today. WT still going strong in 2020 and still loving you guys!
I don't think it matters what the song is about. Not everyone will understand the meaning and the timing couldn't have been more atrocious. I imagine this was all planned out before the global pandemic was a thing but still, as an artist, you need to know when to dial it back a bit.

After three bad albums, this band finally rises again by this full-lenght, even if it's not a masterpiece. My favorite songs are: 'Wireless'; 'Worth Dying for' and 'Ritual'.

This song is everything! Within Temptation has always been one of my favorite bands. Not going to lie, I kind of lost some of my enthusiasm for you guys in 2019 with "Resist," but so far, this song and "The Purge" are so hard and have not even brought back my enthusiasm for Within Temptation, but given me a whole new enthusiasm stronger than anything that I've ever felt before just because of how *hard* and *metal* this new album is! Seriously! Even heavier and more metal than some of your original stuff! Not even going back to your roots, but exploring a whole new venue of metal... and I can't complain! Rock on, Sharon and co!

"Medical treatments" failed, bullies that have given up, bullies that made a mistake with knives, so much shit people do to entertain themselves with those that are different. There songs have a message they let people know how they feel about what's going on in the world and what should be going on. This new song I believe is saying just that there here to give a message not to entertain. There in my opinion the best band around
they did when they released resist, the song raise your banner was showing a protest and repression of the police, this happened in many countries after (hong kong, Lebanon, chile, etc). Now they released this song and it has the coincidence that in US started the protests in the same way of the guys of the video

Its amazing how there are people who make such great things at such a young age. I remeber their concert with Metropolitan Orchestra, I think Sharon was about 30 years old. And they had already written their best albums thus far. Just... Mind blowing. I have really the greatest respect and admiration for people like them.

А мне понравилось! Интересный эксперимент, как и весь альбом The Resist! Sharon умница, а также все остальные участники группы! Как по мне Within Temptation единственная группа, которая даже изменив свой стиль исполнения, всё ещё остаётся интересной и самобытной. Я признаю, я полюбил их за классную метал музыку и чарующий вокал Sharon, но они не захотели находиться в рамках и избрали для себя немного другой путь. Они немногие у кого это получилось сделать так, что бы остаться собой и при этом всё же стать чем-то новым для своего слушателя! Я желаю им только успеха и с нетерпением буду ждать новых свершений!

Sharon looking like she's gone insane is so quirky and fun and HYPNOTIZING. The noir elements mixed in with the color and sci fi elements looks so good too. Also... now I definitely want to go watch the Lacuna Coil Nothing Stands London live clip since they both have the circus/defiance thematic too. This is the band we all know and love. This song is everything! Within Temptation has always been one of my favorite bands. Not going to lie, I kind of lost some of my enthusiasm for you guys in 2019 with "Resist," but so far, this song and "The Purge" are so hard and have not even brought back my enthusiasm for Within Temptation, but given me a whole new enthusiasm stronger than anything that I've ever felt before just because of how *hard* and *metal* this new album is!
Seriously! Even heavier and more metal than some of your original stuff! Not even going back to your roots, but exploring a whole new venue of metal... and I can't complain! Rock on, Sharon and co!
