Picked it up four months ago with a cage and four batteries with under 15k shutter for $1600. Killer setup for the price. I paired it with a sigma 16-28 f2.8 for video and a Tamron 28-200 for everything else. I couldn’t be happier with it!
For photography it will last longer imo, video it's meh, but works well if you're not doing professional work where you need something better. Also there are many better options for video now adays that cost less. But again, all my videos are pretty much filmed on it B-)
Image quality holds up really well and this beast can certainly handle 10 more years of professional photo work. In video, 3 years have been enough for the competition to offer features that are really amazing. Why even my Fuji XS20 can film 6K Open Gate with external BRAW and ProRes RAW while Sony doesn't while being 1000USD more expensive? Definitely the A7V should compensate that difference and fix for once the Rolling Shutter. Gonna wait for the A7VI to even thing of switching.
You are right, photo wise it's still great, but video there are better options. It's still nice for most people, but if you need something better, specially for people working, then I would look else were for sure. The rolling shutter on it is so bad, so so so so so so so bad.
Great Video, Could you please do something about the best focus settings for tracking a fast subject? Would be awesome, I’m struggling when there is fast movement towards me while useing Eye AF. Maybe you have some tips. 😊
I have a canon r6 mark ii so it’s quite similar to the a7 iv, love the camera and its hybrid capabilities. I think that you can’t go wrong with any camera in that price range. Regardless of the brand, Canon/Sony/Nikon
Yea I agree! The A74 will hold up really well for the next 10years at least for photography, for videos I would like to see some improvents, buuut it’s still pretty nice ☺️
It sounds like a perfect camera. It's good to see your car in the background on the screen behind you. This is the first time I’ve heard about two SD card slots in a camera.
Sony A7IV is a great camera! I use it at work and also love it, but I bought a Canon R6II as my personal camera because I didn’t like the 60fps crop on the A7IV! But other than that I like a lot the camera.
@@bender8783 i think sony should revert the IBIS behavior to how it was back in 2014. IBIS before had the task of reducing the shake while new ibis just tries to get the least amount of blur. With this, high precision panning shots on slow subjects get ruined... and even despite sony cameras can latch the IBIS onto an in sensor focus point they just seem to make the stabilizer behave just like a huge smartphone: you take a photo and tries to diminish the most amount of blurred pixels.
Thats the thing, it really depends. Is it a good hybrid camera? Yeah. Great? Maybe. But there is enough it doesnt do that makes me want an A1. People forget that they are tools for different tasks, Sony has really went with that mindset. Individual tools that excel at that certain thing. Its a good camera, that I grab far more than my fx30, but there are things I wish it had for sure. Ideally, I would have a A7siii for video and astro. Maybe an fx30 or fx3 as a B cam. An A1ii as a main camera. And a A7Rv as a B photo cam. Course its a really good video camera too, in crop mode. So idk, all different uses
I sold my A7iv a few months ago. Excellent camera for landscape and portrait. But if you want to shoot sports, it is a 6 FPS camera. Can go up to 8 FPS in lossy compressed or 10 FPS in lossy compressed + EVF in slideshow mode. If you want to shoot people running towards you, AF tracking is nice in the EVF but it's random on the pics. Best hit rate at 6 FPS and fixed spot. Switched to a used A1 because of AF only.
It‘s hard for Sony to improve the camera that existing A7IV users will switch to a new model .. Ok, A7CII has the Ai Focus Co-processor which would be an improvement for sport photography. No-crop with 60fps in 4k is also quite useful for filming sports and so , same applies for higher frame-rate that will give you some advantages in certain situations. A7RV flip-screen would be beneficial as well …. To be honest, in daily usage these “feature” are irrelevant for most users. Personally I would use them maybe in 5% of my use-cases …
In a vacuum, it's still a fantastic camera that does everything most photographers need at an attractive price nowadays. Considering what other stuff that's on the market, I think the a7IV falls short of a couple of other options. For reference, I own an a7RV and an a7CII. I think the optimal solution for the a7IV/a7CII would've been to use a 24MP sensor with fast readout to get 4k60 with no crop and 4k120 with a 1.5x crop or so. This year was a bit weak for Sony. The a7V is their chance to step up their game again and show that they can offer something great at a reasonable price.
An amazing camera, maybe not worth 2400 anymore but definitely a good deal around £1600. Hopefully sony uses up the a7iv sensors in the a7cii so that we get something fresh in an a7V, which seems like an important thing for them to do currently.
For me rolling shutter isn’t such a big deal to be honest. In fact there are so many Oscar winning films that have rolling shutter. It’s crazy but you hardly notice it because the film is so entertaining. But I guess each to his own 🙂

IMO the A7IV has been left behind already by the A99II that came in 2016. Better signal to noise ratio, better burst rate, better burst rate in uncompressed raw, higher resolution, better built lenses, better EVF (despite it's a 480p evf it is not a 720p screen that turns into 240p when the camera has to work the slightest) and overall better autofocus, mixing hybrid detect AF with in sensor af points and the classic SLT 79 point af translucent mirror. It can also do video the same as the A7iv. But the best part are the ergonomics. A99II fits in your palm and feels like part of your body. Never had the A99II, I had the A77II which is the crop sensor variant. Even the body screen is better.
I've noticed that many people are big fans of A9II, never tried it, maybe I should give it a shot? I tried the A9III a few weeks back, total overkill for me, but oh my haha, that thing is like a Lamborghini with a space rocket on it.

Said this, the A99II was released in 2016, and I've been doing photography since 2010 with an A200 for 7 years and then with the A77II for another 7 years. You can check the results in Flickr (MinoltaMaster), the autofocus of A77II and the Minolta 80-200 G HS APO laughs at many linear focus lenses of today. To be clear, the A99II was the last A mount camera, and it competed against Nikon D850 and Canon 5d MkV, both of which crushes. It was my dream camera. There are many sold outside Europe and I didn't want to get struck with huge VAT and custom hold taxes so instead of spending €2000 (+ €600 VAT + customs) on a used A99II I spent €2300 on a brand new A7IV in a local store.
Nah. I had the a99ii and while it is an amazing camera, it's performance doesn't compare in terms of AF, speed, low light next to a7iv. The ergonomics of a mount may be better for you, but e mount works better for me. Also, it's not a prejudice against older a mount. I still have (2) a99 which I keep and use professionally because I love the way the images render.
@KEHA14 well maybe you should update firmware and use SSM lenses, my A77II never lost focus when I tested a 70-400 G SSM II. E mount lenses focus much quicker and also deliver more power to the SSM motors when using an adapter, though.
a7IV and a7III (which both use the same shutter mechanism) are essentially infamous for potential early shutter failure issues. While using it as a dust shield might increase risk if it’s hit or touched with anything when exposed, that is probably not the main reason it failed (unless something actually did hit/touch it hard enough to damage it) - since many are failing prematurely for people that have never used that feature. 🤷♂️
@ the shutter mechanism is plastic so if you leave any lens mounted without a lens cap then the focussed light will burn a hole in it, even indirect light.
@@bijosn I don't think it's plastic (likely some sort of aluminum alloy), but you are correct in that direct sun into a lens just right and long enough can melt/warp/damage the shutter curtain when in the closed position (camera powered off) when using "Anti-dust Function".

Nah, I’m still going for the Sony a6700! Haha
My shutter has a hole in it due to it being used as a dust free.
a7IV and a7III (which both use the same shutter mechanism) are essentially infamous for potential early shutter failure issues.
@ its plastic. Even indirect light and its worse if you use a macro lens and have it enabled
@@bijosn Where are you getting your info from? I'd bet money the shutter curtains are not plastic, but whatever. Seems like I'm wasting my time here.
