  • We have three balers in three different fields as we begin the summer hay making season. It's our first chance to see how much the ongoing drought will impact hay totals...as well as put our equipment through its paces looking for possible problems. #hay, #familyfarm, #newholland, #drought

Guess you could say we are blessed to have a variety of Hay that is not affected too much by drought......Loves sandy soil and once a stand is established and properly managed never has to be replanted...... Also sells real good.....

You’re lucky to have sandy soil. Our sandy fields are planted with alfalfa and seem to be drought proof.

Dad liked to say ( It's always hot at haying time ! ) Probably the early 80s since I stacked in the loft.
    Thank you Dave.

Hi Dave, we had a JD 336 baler with the thrower on it. That thing baled a lot of hay. And straw. And corn fodder.
I think that the 336 is possibly the best baler ever made. Even better than the New Holland hay liner... and that’s saying something.
    Well done northern neighbors.

Thanks Gary. It’s been super reliable for us. We only bale about a thousand bales a year so it doesn’t get used real hard.

Thanks Charlie. We’ve farmed together for 37 years and have a system that works for us. The video camera is the new element….

No matter how much hay there is it's always more than you had the day before. 😂 I hated backing up when I had to with the 605f Vermeer. When I got the NH and I didn't have to back up anymore I certainly took advantage of it.

I have to get out of the habit of backing up. This is only my second season with the NH after years with a Vermeer.

I can almost feel my back pain coming back from bailing hay as a kid…no ejection baler…all hand carry and stack on flat hay rack.

Those were the hard old days. I never got used to standing on that rack….

      A 100 degrees? That's just dumb. 🤦‍♂️

What's hay prices doing up in your area?

Not sure. Don’t know any serious hay sellers in the neighborhood. Everyone here turns it into beef.
