The great operatic diva here doing a pop turn with Der Bingle apppeared in a movie with handsome Rory Calhoun . Ms Costa played a gangsters moll who fell a love with Calhoun and longed to be a regular housewife . She was very good in playing this role and I wonder why she did not make more movies or at least dramatic stage roles . Her appearance here doing pop with a king of pop was similar to what Marguerite Piazza or Anna Moffo would do on occasion distinguishing their opera abilities .
I wish I discovered this when I was younger! These two were in my two favorite Disney films as a kid: The Adventures of Ichabod and Mister Toad and Sleeping Beauty.
She is an international opera singer and actress. Her most notable film acting role is providing the voice of Princess Aurora in Disney's 1959 animated movie 'Sleeping Beauty'.
This delightful medley is taken from Bing's 1971 Christmas special and features great vocals by Mary and Bing. If only you folks could post Mary's dazzling performance of "Carol of the Bells" from the same special, you'd have it made!
Wow, two of my absolute favorite stars. I remember when I was younger, I wished they would have sung together (because Mary reminds me so much of Rosemary Clooney) and years later, I find that they actually did perform together. Childhood dream come true. :)
I was too young to remember this but my Family faithfully watched the Christmas Classics like these year end year out and began anxiously awaiting right before Thanksgiving (in those days there was no thought of Department Stores decorating for Christmas in September which is regularly seen nowadays)...Ironically, I just finished watching this GEM tonight on GetTV which is playing several of the 60-70's Classic Christmas Specials...To think this is nearly a half century ago is truly frightening in many respects...Yet, the Entertainment rings true decades later which is more than I can say of any of today's "specials" if you can even find one...
I was hoping they would work in something really high for Mary Costa, who was a fabulous coloratura soprano. An obvious choice would have been a few bars of the Bell Song from the opera Lakme, by Delibes. Costa was touring in Candide in 1971, the same year this was televised, and added a vocal run to a high F in Cunegonde's famed showpiece "Glitter and be Gay" (as if it didn't have enough high notes). But I suppose that might have upstaged Bing, the star.
not such good chemistry there. Costa too artificial, annoyingly frisky, and trilly. really. Bing doesn't get upstaged by anybody, including Miss Costa. odd pairing, i must say. would like to have seen him dueting with Doris Day, but don't think it happened. R
This is probably the first time I've heard anyone insult Mary Costa over...anything. She's so modest, yet so untouchable in terms of demeanor and talent.
OMG I’m literally seeing and hearing Princess Aurora singing Jingle Bells. And she’s wearing PINK! lol Flora won this battle!
elrota MARY WEATHER:DAMMIT!
Make it BLUE!
With Icahbod Crane
An operatic soprano and a baritone pop crooner!
She even looks like Aurora here.
Mary Costa is talented and beautiful.🩷💖
Their chemistry is so charming. Less romantic, more like a father and daughter having fun.

Absolutely fantastic, anything with Bing gets my vote. 😊🇬🇧 21/2/2019
This makes me smile just because I grew up listening to both of these wonderful people.

Just love Bing❤️

She really jingles....all year round!
Bing is coincidentally in another Disney film "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad".
Beautiful.

She jingled my bells , for sure!
@Charles Scribner III lol!! 🤣👏🤣👏
I know. He was the narrator of the Ichabod part
This is Great !!
:0)
happy day to all !
I knew that too. So, this song is kind of like Ichabod Crane doing a duet with Princess Aurora.
...omg♥
Even though she's not using her Aurora voice, it's really like a duet between Princess Aurora and Icahbod Crane.
Somebody should set this to an animation of Princess Aurora singing this with Bing.

AURORA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? AURORA? STAP!!
Someone do an SFM of Princess Aurora and Prince Philip singing to this.
No better yet, Aurora and Icahbod Crane
Someone, please make an animatic of Aurora and Icahbod Crane singing this.
Sleeping Beauty vs Ichabod Crane
Finally someone else who realized that.
I’ll hear the song until i died.
:)

There's always a sour one in the bunch
Mary Costa is a queen
