When these Bing Crosby specials came out when I was young, I didn't appreciate the supreme achievement of these people. Every moment win this condensed version of the 1975 Christmas special is full of warmth and artistry. The scenes with Crosby and Astaire are precious and when Kathryn joins the fun (as a stand in for Dorothy Lamour) it is wonderful to hear the road picture songs done in medley - with Astaire doing a good job of replacing Bob Hope. THANK YOU!!
Fred and Bing. Now, this is a dynamic duo who knew how to pick up a phone and call each other up without worry. Bing knew how to invite the entire nation into the warmth and comfort of his home for Christmas.
This is a great video. It's missing most of the Young Americans performances, and the Bing/Fred duet with Harry on guitar. Not shown here: The Young Americans belt out such songs as “Time for Living,” “Beautiful City,” and “Love Will Keep Us Together.” . Afterward, Mary Frances asks “Uncle Fred” if he can help her with her dancing. She and Fred sing “Pick Yourself Up.” Then, Mary Frances shows off her moves to “The Continental” and “I’m in Heaven.” That night, getting in late, Harry wakes Bing up at 3 a.m. to speak to his father “man-to-man” about love. Then, Fred joins them and, as Harry plays guitar, the three sing “You’ve Got a Friend.” Later Led by Nathaniel, the youths sing “Christmas Bells are Ringing,” then are joined by Bing and Fred for “Jingle Bells.” Kathryn helps out on “Sleigh Ride,” after which Fred sings “Toyland.” Bing, Fred, and Kathryn reunite for “Let It Snow” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” As the description says "however most of the missing parts can be seen elsewhere on TH-cam".
I attended the same high school as the kids, Burlingame High School. I was in the same math class as Harry, the same biology class as Mary, and on the golf team with Nathaniel. So many years ago!
@donnaworks6352 Mary was quite a flirt and loved attention. Our biology class went to Yosemite for a week. Bing was doing minute maid orange juice commercials at the time. I remember some kids cut up an orange and put it in her sleeping bag to drip juice. She just laughed about it. Another time I remember Bing pulled up in front of the school in a Chrysler Cordova to pick up Nate. My friend and I got up the nerve to go up to him and ask for his autograph. Another time I gave Nate a ride to the golf course. I remember going through the security gates and over to a large car port at their house in Hillsborough where he had his clubs. If I remember correctly, the family had a Rolls Royce as one of their cars. I sat near Harry in math class. He was a senior and I was a freshman in that geometry class.
I always knew it was Christmas when Bing’s Christmas Specials hit the airwaves. Harry and Nathenial looked great in their tuxedos and I appreciated that as I also had to wear a tux a lot in high school. I dare say that this type of television is far better than anything they throw out at us now. And back then there were only 3 maybe 4 channels to choose from, not the 200+ that we have now. Most kids would find that very hard to believe.
When you never seen TV show like this anymore on TV especially Christmas show....They tryin to removing thing like this step by step now in All Around the World.
Harry Crosby was one of the first victims in Friday the 13th. This special didn’t seem Christmasy at all, and the writers should have been fired my goodness what horrible dialogue.

I agree. It is a huge treat to re-visit this footage as an adult and savor their artistry!
The telephone scene/song is so cleverly done.....
This is such a treat. Thank you for uploading this.
Beautiful work

Marvellous
Great Christmas duo. Classic.❤❤❤
Thanks for this video.
Great Stuff.
Wonderful.
There was a lot of denim in that one scene with all the kids.
Entertaining/enjoyable Vaudeville style programming🤗
Little did we know, Bing only had one more Christmas left.

i LOVE THIS!
His son is in the original Friday the 13th.
Showing Bings scantilly clad wife was embarrassing.
Bill’s out there!
Great Men under cover.
It wasn’t very Christmasy was it? Interesting
Where are his other sons?
They were much older by then (late 30s, early 40s). They appeared with him on radio shows and a couple of records several years before.
They had been stars for 40 something years at this point. That would be like a special today hosted by George Michael and Madonna.
Far better than that.
George Michael died eight years ago. Madonna might as well be dead.
@@garypesci7468 years ago tomorrow Christmas Day
