What a lovely touch of Southern music in her voice! I love opera singers, I'm one myself, and I really hope I get to meet Ms. Costa before it's too late. You are so lucky!!
She is the best Disney Princess voice - hands down. I wanted to sound like her and be Aurora as a little girl. She is the first voice I think of when someone mentions Disney Princess voices.
Its so disappointing that Mary costa did not get any more movie roles i mean she was married to Frank Tashlin a comedy director and he did not even bother casting her in his pictures
@@hejpadig2676 I like to think that because of the good fairies’ magical gifts they bestowed, they made sure she was blessed with good looks and an angelic, operatic singing voice lol
Sweet as she is beautiful and sings like an angel. She sat on the third row, every Sunday at First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach Fl. She still looks as lovely today as she did back then in the early 1990's.
Mary Costa is Such a magnificent woman, so intelligent and articulate. You can tell she has a real passion for her craft, and for the movie. Pure class. One of the last grand dames 💗👑
Since the death of Dickie Jones (voice of Pinnochio) on July 27, 2014, I’m positive she’s the last Disney voice from the Greatest Generation Era when Walt was alive.
She is and will always be Princess Aurora/ Briar Rose! Mary Costa looks exactly like the dreamy pretty elegant and passionate Disney princess. What a voice, could listen to her speaking voice all day. Great interview with her. 😍😘🥰🤩🌟✨🙌🏻🫶🏻👏🏻💋💄👸💅🏻
when was this interview done - some time ago i wager based on Leonard Maltin's look - Mary Costa was still very pretty then - i love her eager - almost breathless - way of speaking - and her singing in the movie was gorgeous - and - as Maltin points out - she did the dialog very well too
She's interviewed by Lucille Ball several times around 1964 and she is the SWEETEST doll you've ever heard! They're available on Spotify (or where podcasts are, idk) under the "Let's Talk to Lucy" title. I've searched her out after those interviews.
it's stylized flat 50's animation meant to resemble the composition of a tapestry why is anyone mentioning a corset... she doesn't exist she not wearing a god damn corset.
I love how she knows the character and is so proud of her work in this movie. She believes in the world that Disney created without shame and without false modesty. That’s so interesting and I bet she did have a wonderful career in opera. What an absolutely legendary voice. What year was this interview taped? I read Ms. Costa is still alive in 2024, she is 94 years old.
I am glad to know that Mary Costa and I share our point of view on the relationship between Walt Disney and Peter Tchaikovsky: they would be great friends to one another. And that is why the melody of the Sleeping Beauty Waltz was used for the scene. Did other Disney films adopt Tchaikovsky music as well?
Mary Costa was amazing since she played the voice and singing role for Sleeping Beauty. When I was a kid, I've read some stories of Sleeping Beauty before I watched the Disney movie on VHS and I really liked it.
I love that question! I feel like it would be about whoever had the most similar values to her or who would give her an opportunity to explore more of the world: because she valued the same things as her fairy godmother aunts enough to want to bring Philip to meet them. But she also rebelled from their wishes in order to have her dance and conversation with Philip. Which means that she (naturally) wants to try new things. In some ways I feel like Aurora is rather free-spirited. Come to think of it: my answer would be Pocahontas. I think she would be friends with Pocahontas. They both are loyal to family and adventurous.
Tchaikovsky died 8 years prior to Walt Disney being born ... How funny, interesting and ironic it would be if Pyotr had reincarnated as Walt in his next life to go on and create the Disney brand.
Disney had all that information in his mind and he brought it to life by making it happen. He created a fantasy of princesses, except for Pinocchio probably it was to show case how men and their masculinity is affecting people around them if they don't change their habits they're part of the problem. I wonder if Disney himself was abuse as a child and instead of getting revenge on them he brought his dream to reality, Disney built a safe space from the evil reality we live in. Disney was ahead of the times.
Nice but I probably would disagree with Mary. I think if Disney and Tchaikovsky, I’m sure it would probably be like the PL travers debacle all over again.
Mary Costa is a regular at my work, i work at a restaurant and she is the kindest, most wholesome soul i have ever met.
Emma what restaurant do you work at?
Luckyyyyyyyy

@@kennethwayne6857 I know right. Mrs Costa is truly a legend in Disney musicals.
What a charming and beautiful lady. Her eyes are so captivating, and she has aged so gracefully.

Can't agree. Aurora sounds like an old lady which always feels weird when she is supposed to be 16 years old. But I accept your thought ofc :)
@@hejpadig2676 she sounds amazing! Very beautiful and charming. Better than most of nowaday female characters from disney movies.
Jeremey irons as scar and her as aurora are two of the most beautiful voices in disney

They drew Aurora with that one-sided upper lip thing that Mary has, so charming.
I’ve always loved Princess Aurora, her voice and singing. It’s beautiful. ^^
Wow she still looked here super stunning !! She was my favorite princess
Hail to the Princess Aurora! Mary Costa nailed her part in Sleeping Beauty!
She’s beautiful and she has a heavenly voice💕
She still sounds like Aurora speaking!
She is Aurora.
@@nicholasdruce5346 I know she is but I thought she would have needed to do a different voice impression to be a young, innocent princess

She’s the last surviving actress of that era of Disney princesses

OP meant when Walt Disney was still alive (Paige O’Hara and Jodi Benson were from the Renaissance era).
Still beautiful, even she is aged and she still sounds like Aurora example in her mid- 40s
Costa is in her 90s now. Sleeping Beauty was made in 1959
Mary Costa is sooobeautiful and so cute!!!!

Remember kids, before there was Jodi Benson who voice Ariel, there was Mary Costa who was Briar Rose/Auroso and she still is a legend.
Even Mary Costa refers to her as Sleeping Beauty. IDK why but it bothers me when people don't call her Aurora.
***** When did Philip call her Sleeping Beauty?
***** Never seen enchanted tales.
he didn't he referred to her as the peasant girl
Mary Costa also don't say Prince Phillip's name. She only refer to him as "The Prince".
She has referred to her as Sleeping Beauty and as Princess Aurora in different interviews.
Despite her advanced age, Costa is still easy on the eyes!
Mary costa is still alive she's 89 she's pretty

The works of a corset😭😂
It's like 9 inches
it's stylized flat 50's animation meant to resemble the composition of a tapestry why is anyone mentioning a corset... she doesn't exist she not wearing a god damn corset.
Every Disney Princess has a tiny waist. Check out Ariel or Jasmine, they're not even wearing corsets, and their waists are smaller than their heads.

When films were made with talented people not the trash we have nowadays
Totally agree with you.
And was the graham norton in my notifications before hand?
mary costa should've had more lines and dialogue from sleeping beauty Aurora should've been the MAIN CHARACTER
Mary Costa voiced Audrey's mother.
Before Jennifer Hale, Erin Torpey and Kate Higgins
Everyone at Disney Land was so happy to see Jesus Christ.
She was the perfect voice! Unfortunately aroura had that least amount of lines out of any princess, her character deserved better
I dont know look like aurora to me
PATRICK Lang Königswartha
Aurora didn't talk much in her own movie considering she only got 18 minutes in her OWN movie. So I can't get her voice in my head
I can get her voice in my head very easily. I think that her voice is so beautiful and memorable that even in 18 minutes she was amazing.
Would have been a lot better when Aurora's story changed with Phillip's (Then she might be femminist more), but original is better too.
