I believe you'll find the paint code in the front behind the fender lining on the passenger side 'aqua blue pearl' ... I have the same mk3, same spec and colour too, 😅 I felt a bit offended when you said "budget build"

I bought a mk2 a couple months back and on my drive home I noticed the clutch slipping when applying throttle in high gears. I thought it's clutch and started saving. A mechanic mate helped me rebuilding the carb over the weekend and noticed my clutch cable that the previous owner had replaced right before selling, wasnt fitted properly and the free play wasn't correctly calculated. Once we reinstalled it properly, my clutch issues is a thing of the past. It will still probably need a new one sometime. But not as soon as I thought.
Ah Yes! Mk3 golf cabriolet again. That would be aqua blue Pearl for sure LC5U. Same as mine which I absolutely love. Interior wise recaro's of course! Maybe you could do a nice alcantara job! Looking forward to seeing it taken care of by you
