Thanks, surprised there aren't commercially available items like this for all the gravel driveways in the snowbelt. Good thinking Mike, thanks for sharing a great idea

Thanks for stopping by and the kind words. Unfortunately these did not fair so well in the cold and shattered. The second version worked way better and I continue to use them to this day. Here is a link to the shoe 2.0. Cheers, Mike.

I like your try on making wider shoes for your blower. I have a Berco blower for my JD and have a long gravel driveway. I made shoes 3 inches x 12 inches steel 3/16 steel. I welded 3/4 angles on the side for turning otherwise it eats gravel. I’m going to do 6 inch wide shoes like you did only I’ll do steel. Nice video !

Cool. I'm taking a different route myself. I'm going to take a 1x3 board and cut ti to two 6" lengths, cut curves into the front of them and then bend aluminum flat bar stock to the same curvature and JB weld it to the wood to make a pair of ski-skid shoes. I'll also curve the front edges of the aluminum on the sides as well and file any sharp edges off. Just have a curiosity to see if it would work well. The aluminum flat stock is 2" wide and about 1/8th of an inch thick. When that's all ready I'll set the scraper up on about a half to one inch board, set the skis on the ground on either side of the auger box, mark where to drill holes for the bolts, drill the holes out and bolt them into place, then remove the wood under the scraper and see how it sits. Wish me luck.

Hey that sounds like a really solid plan for sure. Let me know how you make out. 🤞cheers, Mike.

You’ll see in this video it failed and the cutting board just got destroyed. Check out the skid shoe2.0 video made out of metal 6 inch round disks. Still my go to and working out very nicely. Cheers.

First couple snowfalls I pack it down on the gravel driveway. Once I have that base can blow the snow with minimal rocks

Thanks for the comment and tips. I completely junked this idea and created a much superior round Diack/ shoe. Check out the skid shoe 2.0. Much better for this gravel driveway application.
      Cheers!

UHMWPE is made up of very long moleculles that tend to lie parallell to each other and it is therefore not strongly held together in the direction transverse to the long molecules. UHMWPE is used in hip and knee prosthesises but it is further treated by anealing and finally gamma ray exposed which will create bonding across the lenght of the molecules to make it strong in all directions.

Yeah they didn’t work. I have steel round discs that work much better. Thanks for stopping by! Cheers, Mike.

You can also use the tips of old skis.

Absolutely! As you saw in this video the cutting boards didn't work out to well. Check out the final product in the Video called Skid Shoe 2.0 way better. Thanks for watching.

@@maintenancewithmike Great idea! I did notice the skids tend to bind when I move my machine 👍

I just welded a wider flat bar onto my shoes to help it go over the gravel

I did the same but eventually went to a round disk shoe for easier turning and not cutting into the gravel. Here they are in this video.
