I figured it out in case anyone has the same problem. It was an iso image file. You have to open "This PC" in the file explorer and right click the virtual drive that was created automatically when downloading the iso image file. Open more options and press "eject". That will delete the virtual drive and then you can delete the iso image file normally or through command prompt.

the cmd trick didnt work for me, it said the path cant be found, but i opted for a different solution, remain the file in the specific folder, move everything else away, copy the folder path, then i put it into glary ultilities to delete it via the clean up function, thankfully its gone now what i had was a very large video file that doesnt seem to be running my any other program, its just hard for file explorer to handle (89gb) so clicking on it to rename wasnt even an option ive been noticing windows is getting laggier when it comes to handling large media files lately too, opening cr2 raw photos or viewing something of 200 raws nearly froze it, in the case of the photos it was definitely the photo app that was still running in the background with the cache file for some reason(?) its annoying to having to double triple check task manager everytime something like this happens
I know this video is rather old but I have come to a bit of an issue. CMD tells me that the file has given an access denied prompt for everything within the folder I am trying to delete. I cant seem to get around this. Please help. My system I am running is a windows 11 machine if that helps.
Another option is to use for a directory with bogus "cannot be located" files (from cmd as administrator) the: rd /s "\\?\" which worked for me when the tips in this video did not.
How about files with "access is denied" attributes. I no longer have any use for it because I already uninstalled its associated program. That file is just a remnant and just sits there. Thanks.

Had the dreaded Java 8.1 update 51 file name in the installed programs list in Control Panel. This file would not uninstall or delete because it couldn't be found. I had to go through the entire registry to find the 8.1 jre. file. Found the files after a looking everywhere and the heading finally disappeared.
I'm trying to delete old system files off of an external i have. Everything I try doesn't work. When i tried the "rmdir /s /q" thing it just says access is denied for every file. What do I do?
I've been using Iobit Unlocker for a few years now. But it doesn't always work. So I'm adding this one to my "Useful Stuff". I've also found that leftover Windows installation folders are almost impossible to delete. The only way I've been able to get rid of those is by booting a Linux live CD and using the linux file manager to delete them.
Hey I was wondering what am I supposed to do if I tried the command and they didn’t do anything? I made sure I typed everything correctly but it isn’t deleting the file
After doing all its shows access denied
need help, theres a corrupt folder that makes it impossible to install tf2 since my pc bsods when steam tries to verify it. I have tried everything here and it always ends with folder is corrupt or unreadable
i tried every command, and for each it said that my access to delete it is denied. if i try and delete it the normal way it tells me its opened in another app, but i have no idea what app that is
Thank you so much, the only thing that was able to get rid of the file was the Unlock IT app. I spent an hour trying to get rid of this file and was frustrated until I happened upon this video and you showed how to get rid of it. 🙏🙏 Thanks a lot
Folder one doesnt work it keeps giving me this error saying directory is not empty i even tried deleting all files one by one and when i tried to delete a folder with no files in it it gave the same error i came across it while trying to free up space and i need to delete that file for space please help
the cmd trick didnt work for me, it said the path cant be found, but i opted for a different solution, remain the file in the specific folder, move everything else away, copy the folder path, then i put it into glary ultilities to delete it via the clean up function, thankfully its gone now
what i had was a very large video file that doesnt seem to be running my any other program, its just hard for file explorer to handle (89gb) so clicking on it to rename wasnt even an option
ive been noticing windows is getting laggier when it comes to handling large media files lately too, opening cr2 raw photos or viewing something of 200 raws nearly froze it, in the case of the photos it was definitely the photo app that was still running in the background with the cache file for some reason(?) its annoying to having to double triple check task manager everytime something like this happens
I know this video is rather old but I have come to a bit of an issue. CMD tells me that the file has given an access denied prompt for everything within the folder I am trying to delete. I cant seem to get around this. Please help.
My system I am running is a windows 11 machine if that helps.
thank you man, been trying for awhile to delete 2 files that were locked
Another option is to use for a directory with bogus "cannot be located" files (from cmd as administrator) the: rd /s "\\?\" which worked for me when the tips in this video did not.
The Software did something safemode, powershell, and many others couldnt do
very good, thank you
1 thing
Mine does let me delete it but it gets stuck on the Deleting prompt, and it stays at 0%
It says access denided
How about files with "access is denied" attributes. I no longer have any use for it because I already uninstalled its associated program. That file is just a remnant and just sits there. Thanks.
oh my god you are the best person ever!!!! The tutorial worked and its super easy and understandable. I hade a file and a folder that didn't allow me to delete them but after using the program i now could delete them and the satisfaction was amazing!!! 10/10 best video ever!!!
