You like Art of Rendering? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Mechanical Principles no. 5 came out in '21, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole video has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the simulations a big boost. He's been compared to How it's Made, but I think Rendering has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '23, Rendering released this; Mechanical Principles no. 14, their most accomplished video. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "2:30 from Mechanical Principles no. 12". A machine so catchy, most people probably don't pay attention to the core mechanics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the Art of Rendering itself.

When making a presentation of the pump, it would be nice if the liquid was simulated to see the effect of the mechanism on the liquid.

liquid simulation is very hard and requires special software. It also requires a lot of setup, trial and error.

1:22- That pump looks massively inefficient, because there is a large back flow. The rotors are carrying a lot of "compressed" fluid back down the center, pushing it back towards the inlet, constantly.

I watched most of these and they are fascinating, but perhaps they should be called " high friction useless machines" .

  • @standoughope

I love trying to imagine what these would potentially be used for.

    • @ichbrauchmehrkaffee5785
      @ichbrauchmehrkaffee5785 ปีที่แล้ว

well, some of them are used allready,
some of them look fancy in cad, but are impractical in real-life
due to friction, high mechanical complexity or dynamic imbalance.
And computer controlled systems can do all these things with simpler mechanisms,
with higher efficiency, less parts, at much greater precision.
But they're maybe just not as "cool" as a highly complex mechanism as shown in this video.
      General rule of thumb:
The more mechanically complex a device is,
      the less efficient it performs,
the more complex maintenace will be,
      the more things can break.

Hi ! Nice video series !
I wanted to ask: do you know a mechanical principle/common solution that transforms rotation (from a motor) to a linear translation; but with a catch: when the motor spins slowly the amplitude of the translation motion is high, and as the motor speeds up the amplitude is smaller (ie smaller range of motion at higher speeds).
Is there a common solution for that ?
