    If you liked this, you have to react to their Queen in 5 Minutes, with the same group as you saw here. Earl (the high, HIGH tenor) had a health scare, which they incorporated into the 'story' they did for the Queen video. Layne and Earl had met back in Middle School and shortly afterward they met Geoff, so those three went waaayyyyy back. Earl left very suddenly in 2020 due to what was stated as 'personal reasons' and neither he nor the group have ever publicly given any further information as to exactly what happened.
    Geoff has said that when they were performing with Earl before an audience that wasn't familiar with them, he loved to see the heads go back and forth as the audience members figured out that the big, burly guy was singing the highest parts and that the (this is Geoff describing himself) 'skinny, androgynous-looking guy with the long hair' was singing deep bass, since people were assuming the opposite by how they looked.

    Voiceplay's lineup has changed over the years. Earl is the bearded guy and yes, his voice really is amazing...and high. J None is the black guy...amazing baritone. He left to join the navy, I believe. :) And the little "gossip clique" is the wives (Geoff, Layne, and Eli's wives) and Earl's partner/husband)

    Big dude is Earl. The guy who said "You should see the size of his wallet" is his husband. The three women are Layne, Eli and Geoff's wives.

    The high pitch singing is the big guy. Earl. He left in 2020. The other one you don't know is J None. He left early this year to go sing in the American navy.

      @DougRayPhillips 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Actually JNone left in 2021. Cesar is defined as a semi-baritone, so he's in JNone's spot. Earl's spot is still open.
      This grouping, with Earl and JNone, was in place from 2017-2020. That's who you'll see in vids like:
      "Can't Help Falling In Love"
      "Tennessee Whiskey"
      and covers from The Nightmare Before Christmas, including "Oogie Boogie's Song"
      ...among many others

      @@DougRayPhillips you're right. My bad. Its hard keeping track of 15 active members in the 3 main groups.

    Hon, Voiceplay has been around for literally 20 years. There was some lineup shuffle. The OG: Geoff, Layne, Eli plus the the tenor is Earl. The other new guy to you is J-None. He left in 2021 to join the Navy... He has popped in for special appearances when he has time. Ceasar is the newest member. If you go far enough back you'll meet Tony and Scott. Love all forms

    You hit an old VP with Earl Elkins tenor founding member, left 2020 for personal reasons.
    JNone baryton ca 2016-2021. Many hope for his return when his service in the Navy is over.
    Cesar joined when JNone left.
    In some older videos you will also see Tony Wakim, baryton before JNone. He nowadays run PattyCake Production together with Layne, where most videos are filmed. So in a sense he didn't really leave, just works backstage.

    Great reaction!! Earl was a founding member in 1997, and stayed for 23 years. They rebranded as Voiceplay 10 years ago. So a few changes over the years is not unheard of.
    Really enjoy your enthusiasm, please react to more.
    Geoff started a solo channel during the pandemic, would love to see you check his work out. I'd start with House of the Rising Sun - he's just showing off. lol

    You must have only seen newer videos. This was VoicePlays for years. Earl with the beard left in 2020 and J.None left in 2021, since then Cesar joined them. And yes it's Geoff all the way for me. I used to listen to PTX when Avi was with them but not since. Home Free are good too of course, but it's VP for me. I love their fun, their theatricatlity, and their astounding harmonies.

    VoicePlay always puts the members of the video in the description. This is an older video that has Earl and J. None who have both since left.

    Earl Elkins Jr. was an original member( high tenor ) like Geoff and Layne from middle school. He left the group 2 years ago. J.None left a year ago to join the Navy. That's where Cesar came in. They are still looking for a 5th member.

    Earl (the high tenor) was an original member. He went to high school with Layne and Geoff, and just left after 20+ years in early 2020. Another fantastic song with this lineup is Queen in 5 Minutes.

  • @bjspeck4337
    @bjspeck4337 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you watch Queen in 5 Minutes, or Tennessee Whiskey, you will see this same lineup. Earl is the big guy with the amazing tenor (original member from high school days), J None is the black guy with the voice of velvet (came on in 2017, last year was recruited into the US Navy. Said he would be back. On leave he came back and VoicePlay did Friends on the Other Side and took the lead). Omar is superb as is Ashley Diane. J None has 3 more years in the Navy unless he makes it a career. We will see.

    You should watch Just Sing (by Voiceplay) with the subtitles on - It was a fundraiser they did in 2020 during covid. It has a lot of information in the subtitles with dates about who was in the group as well as a bunch of people they have collaborated with.

    Thanks for coming back to Voice Play--I really enjoyed your reaction! If you scroll your mouse across the time bar on the bottom of the video it will tell you the name of the band and song. As others will tell you in the comments, The bearded high tenor is Earl, one of the original founding members. The original founding members were Geoff, Earl, Layne, and actor Scott Porter and they started the group back when they were in high school back in 1997 under the name '42Five'. Scott Porter left the group in 2006 to pursue his acting career and Tony Wakim and Eli Jacobson joined and they changed the name of the group to Voice Play to incorporate more humor and theatrics shortly before their first audition for the "Sing Off" in 2009 (They were already experienced working day jobs for Universal and/or Disney theme parks at that time). They were turned down when they auditioned for the first season of "Sing Off" in 2009 and strongly encouraged to include a female member in their group and were picked for season 4 of "Sing Off" with Honey temporarily singing with them. Tony Wakim is in their earlier videos, he did not like the demands of singing on tour but is still a big part of their production and owns PattyCake Productions with Layne. (You would love their early video from the "Sing Off" tour with their early line up performing live "Road Trip"-it is hilarious!) The black gentleman is J None, he replaced Tony Wakim and left in 2021 to join the Navy (Cesar joined after J None left). You would enjoy J None in their cover of "Tennessee Whisky". Voice Play just recently released a new cover, "I Can't Make You Love Me", featuring Omar's older brother E J Cardona and a great solo from Cesar that I know you would really enjoy a lot. I look foward to your continued Voice Play journey.

    Here is some advice on reactions to do with Earl and J. None but YOU MUST do them in the following order!!!
    “Trapped: Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes.” It was filmed after the following 2 videos but is actually a precursor to them.
    “Panic! In Four Minutes: Part 1 & Part 2!” Watch these back to back in the same reaction with a tiny pause in between. Sequel to Trapped.
    “Queen In 5 minutes!” There’s debate around if this one is really the 4th in the series. Some say it makes sense if Earl blew up from the bomb Geoff failed to deactivate. Some say this followed an actual health scare Earl had. It fits for both circumstances.

    I think all of the big 3 (PTX, Voiceplay, Homefree) are the best *at their niche*. Homefree is country, Voiceplay is theatrical, dance & costumes. PTX is pop, rap, rock and also holiday/spiritual. I think PTX has the best arrangement help (Ben Bram), and the best sound production. Voiceplay has the most humor. I think the vocal percussionist for Homefree is the best solo beatbox (the attention getting stuff), and the beatboxer for PTX has the most overall sounds and styles. PTX is the most diverse, Homefree has the most consistency in their sound. Voiceplay has had several roster changes and "regular guest singers." Homefree has had many past singers also. PTX has been by far the most stable roster, they've had just one change: Avi Kaplan was their bass for 6 years and it's been Matt Sallee for the past 5. So they're all amazing at what they do, but they do different things. So a person's taste will probably dictate their preference. Any fan of one group who can't acknowledge the others are also great is short-sighted, IMO. Probably the most standout voice on all three (in terms of rarity of range, timbre, and skill and control with it) is Mitch Grassi, but everyone should like who they like- it's not a competition.

    • @jessicacole7981
      @jessicacole7981 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a competition but you decided to rank them by who you consider the best without even acknowledging any members of Voice Play. As far as I can tell by your description of VP , you haven't bothered to really know them all that well considering you listed them as dancers which is extremely laughable and the guys will tell you that themselves. I don't think either PTX or HF are more diverse then VP who have done just about every genre of music you can think of from Opera to Country to Pop to Theatre to Disney to Game themes and even instrumental. All the groups are good with no qualifiers needing to be added as they are all different from each other and should be enjoyed for who and what they are.
