  • One if the most common questions we get asked at Elite Koi is How much should I feed my Koi.
Here Chris explains how we measure the amount of feed the Koi will consume in 1 minute to establish a healthy feeding routine that can be slowly increased based in the Koi's behaviour and also your regular water parameter tests.
Prior to filming Chris had measured 100 grams of Takazumi Mix, Elite Koi's choice of Koi food for pond 10.
The Koi were then offered as many pellets as they could consume within the 1 minute.
Following the 1 minute window, the pot of Mix was re weighed and measured 74 grams, by subtracting the remaining 74 grams from the starting 100 grams, we can determine the Koi have comfortably consumed 26 grams of Takazumi Mix within the 1 minute window.
if we were setting the feeding amount coming into Spring now, 26 grams of feed would be the amount that the Koi were fed once a day, or 26 grams split between 2 feeds per day while measuring the water parameters. This will determine how we increase the amount of feeds and feed amount per day

For outdoor koi, subject to injury from predators feed sinking only…….feed small containers of feed, keeps it fresh, do not buy huge bags of food that go stale before you get it all fed, you think bulk is saving you money but in reality may cost the health of your fish.

Idk I have koi and we just feed them pellets that float and we’ve had the same bag for a year or more now. We’ve had the fish and pond for years and we never had a huge problem with predators because they have good hiding spots in my pond and I believe that is key. But I am looking into ways to get them bigger.

In order to get growth, do not over crowd your pond. Fewer fish is better.

If you have koi you should be aware of the minimum required to keep them healthy.
The fact you're asking raises questions being honest.
