HOW MUCH AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD I FEED MY KOI FISH (Version 2 with updates from Jason)

The Question we are always asked is much and how often should I feed my fish? Do I need to feed my fish when I'm on vacation? What to feed my fish?

What a beautiful pond you have and super healthy koi. Love your landscape with your pond and waterfall. I wonder if you ever get fish taken by predators being so open and easy to see or are they too big for a predator to take? Unless it’s a bear of course.

Another question after watching video, I'm from South Africa. Pond is 30000 liter. Have carport net over pond. Also have water plant ilselands drifting. About 45 Kois and Carps, majority still small. I like to start feeding handful flakes (Tetra Flakes) floating on surface level, they come to surface and scoop them. Crude protein 49%. Then we give them 2 to 3 hands whole feed pellets mix (Aqua master staple Koi feed, 36% crude protein, and Oats)..After feeding there are still food on the surface. The Oats loves to sink. We feed at 17h00 in afternoon after hard day of work. Married for 44 years we enjoy being with our kids, the fish...communication time. During the night we hear them feeding. In morning we see no food on surface. I will perhaps throw 1 hand of mix for feeding for day. Could this be OK? I am worried about 3 minute rule.....Thx.....
