    Water Temperature
Much faster, right? That has a lot to do with a warmer and consistent temperature. Scientific studies have shown that the ideal water temperature range for your koi's maximum growth are between 75 -80 degrees.
Temperature is one of the critical factors directly influencing every aspect of our Koi and pond life. Temperature has a direct bearing on metabolic rates of living organisms in the pond. It has a direct bearing on the health and growth of Koi, oxygen levels in the water as well as the oxygen consumption.
There are however, upper and lower limits to what can be considered good or ideal water temperatures. As temperatures rise so does the rate of growth of our Koi. Up to a certain point this is true, but beyond a certain point as temperatures rise, the oxygen saturation levels of water declines. At about 28°C there is no further point in trying to achieve higher water temperature as the amount of oxygen that can be dissolved in the water becomes the limiting factor in conversion of food to growth.
On the other end of the scale below 10°C metabolism is reduced to the point where the body is hardly functioning. Below 5°C Koi go into hibernation. And at around 2°C for any length of time the fish are close to death.
As water temperatures decline body activity decreases. At or around 12°C the Koi's metabolism is reduced to the point where the immune system has virtually shut down. Oxygen and food requirements are greatly reduced. Food should be withdrawn at or around 10°C. The blood supply moves slowly around the body. This shut-down is not a switch on or off at a certain temperature, it is a gradual change. Different Koi have different tolerances. Some will be more affected by temperatures than others.
Although pathogenic organisms are also slower in their infection rates at lower temperatures, when introduced into the system, they can be still be deadly as Koi are almost incapable of fighting infection at low temperatures. An advantage of low temperatures is that not only the Koi have decreased activity so does everything else (such as pathogens).
    Thanks for watching!

Hi, what do you think of feeding the koi quality grain bread.
Mine go mad for it, they also get floating pellets and flake.
    Thinking of maggots to.

Maggots have near zero nutrition, I carp fish and they are banned in alot of places due to the ammonia levels produce and the fact carp can become preoccupied on them and stop eating regular food. Id avoid for koi 🙂

Quick question for you my friend, is there a limit to the amount of flow? I’m using a pond filter (APS uv pond filter) to filter a big tank, the carp I have in there are about 5 inches or I’m not sure if it’s a little too much flow for them?

Hey man.. shot alot for the vid :)
I kept tropical fish as a youngster..
    At a stage i had 2 4ft tanks, 3 x 3ft tanks and some smaller ones..
    Havent kept fish in years.
Built a 1000 litre ibr koi pond with gravity flow filter... water is supplied from rain water tank..
Thinking of growing a couple koi nice and quick and biggish.. sell them and maybe setup a spawing tank...
Could you suggest how many koi i can squeeze in to get this project going quick? I got 5 lil baby koi so far. They happy.. sitting in 250litres.. waiting for rain. Only got this project going yesterday ..
When both the 100litre (900 where ill be on my level) and the 250 litre are full ill dump and fill fresh.. dry season ill fill the 250l leave it for a week and then pump it over..
But ya.. the biggest question.. how many koi..?
    Thanks again

Sounds like a plan Budd, I've found the best way for me to look is usually by using the go pro to film them up close underwater, trying to net them in my pond is a nightmare as they just go deep and I end up stressing them. So I look forward to your video it will be super helpful... I may have to grab a female off you at somepoint too just as an excuse for a new koi really 😉
