    I was hoping you'd break down Jesse's thought process when he was selling drugs to the rehab group and then told on himself. Was that a breakthrough and is that different from sheer exhaustion of keeping up a deception?

      He wanted to be punished and was needing to confess, but everyone in the group was making excuses for him. That's why he not only told on himself but then butt heads with the concept of the NA group theory.

    I hated doing physio in hospital (had to relearn how to walk *twice*!), it was so hard, but I always loved the nurses and the physio therapist who did it with me! We'd make funny jokes back and forth and she was super encouraging but not annoyingly so. Although, I also love to be in hospital, so maybe I'm just a bit weird.

      Well done for learning to walk again twice! As a physio myself, we know what we are asking of a person isn’t easy, so thank you for saying that :)

      @@nessowens3951 Ah, I know people can get frustrated because it's "taking too long" in their eyes, and it's "too hard", but you're there to help, not hurt! Last time I had to do stairs after relearning, i practiced so much that when she came round the next week I was so proud of myself haha. I could do the steps backwards without the railing 😁Haha showing off 🤣
      Maybe because my mom was a nurse, half my relatives are doctors, and my GP has known me since literally before I was born, I know how stressful and exhausting it must be so I want to make their job as easy or at least *funny* as I can. I always keep little bags of sweets or chocolate bars to give to them as well. Never know, might be the first time they've had a chance to eat all day 😮
      Anywho,
      Keep doing what you're doing! You make a huge difference in people's quality of life!

    I can’t remember was Walter pretending to dissociate? (Saw this a long time ago). Dissociative fugues are a pain in the arse. The number of police/medical staff who think I’m taking the piss walking around outside in my pjs in the early hours. It’s not fun

    There's a documentary on Netflix called how to change your mind about the research into psychidelics and how they're being used to treat mental health conditions or similar. I really enjoyed it but it is a somewhat biased view, would love your take on it. The episode about psilocybin use was very interesting to me. There's a section where an OCD patient explains his experience of being treated with psilocybin that was extremely fascinating as almost brought me to tears.

    This was great stuff. Sticking with Breaking Bad, I'd be really interested in your views on the character of Todd. To me, as a non-expert, he seems to be a convincing and nuanced depiction of a psychopath, both in the character as written and in Jesse Plemons' performance of a polite, pleasant young man who is also a completely cold-blooded killer and who seems subtly baffled by other peoples' emotions.

    • @samanthas8340

      It's been a while since watching the show, but I don't think there's enough there to be sure. The closest thing to psychopathology in the DSM-5 is antisocial personality disorder which involves a long criminal history and lists "limited empathy" as possible criteria. However, there are other disorders like autism for example, that might be even more confused by other people's behavior than someone with antisocial. Then there is sadism which doesn't have to go hand in hand with antisocial.

    I lost my partner to meth addiction last year, I was trying for a year to get him to quit but he kept relapsing and I was so worried about him but I didn't think it would go down hill so fast. He also was a heavy cannabis user and occasionally drank and did other drugs, he always told me he understood his body and he won't fall to psychosis.. he always very defensively said he is grounded to reality and is not delusional. He refused to get any help from a GP or therapist he said there's its don't know him better than he does and he isn't going to pay to just talk. His depression and anger outbursts got worse I had to move out for my own safyey but i still blame myslef for leaving and feel like i should of stayed and done more. A few months later he ended his own life with his rifle and I don't know how to grieve or heal, I just feel like there's a hole that grows bigger where he used to be, I miss him more everyday. Our anniversary ia coming up soon and I don't know what to do.
    Thank you for bringing up meth addiction and grief it helped me understand things better

    12:00 literally my family didn't give a flying fuck about my panic attacks ,nor did they believe in therapy, so I had to learn by myself to self-regulate. If after 15 minutes passed and I still couldn't breathe, only then was it appropriate to call an ambulance

    Breaking Bad - was a late watcher. But one of the best and most entertaining series....ever? Must have taken quite some time to break down part of the series into specific moments where DSMV or ICD10 can be used to label/explain them? Impressed. Fine explanations.

    This was a great video! (Sadly) I've experienced a lot of the things in focus in this video, but that allowed me the opportunity to do one of my favorite activities ever: finishing the sentences of professionals! 😄
    I found that the 12 Step program worked for me after I substituted the religious component. As you said, it's the network that really helps bridge the gap into sobriety. Not the steps.

    I've never been addicted to a substance but I always relate to and empathise with people (and characters) who have substance use disorders because I have a long history of severe anorexia. Would you say AN is a kind of behavioural addiction?

    • @abbyhuntley3171
      @abbyhuntley3171 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, interesting you should comment on the cognitive dissonance of knowing a drug is harmful and continuing to use anyway. I'm a medical student and whilst I'm now at a healthy weight, it didn't use to matter how much my mum would plead with me, saying that I knew the science behind why I needed to change, I continued to starve myself because I believed I had to stay thin/get thinner/lose weight/not gain weight

    • @abbyhuntley3171
      @abbyhuntley3171 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And then in terms of treatment, as you said stopping the drug is needed to allow the addict to combat that cognitive dissonance, with anorexia, the starved mind too cannot overcome it

    I used to love setting things on fire. I even mixed styrofoam and gasoline to create homemade napalm that could be put on anything with a paintbrush, and it would burn for a long time. Inevitably I burned the hell out of myself, and it kind of lost its appeal after that.

    Completely unrelated to the video but I’d be really curious to learn about off brand use of Ketamine for mental health issues in the UK or if it’s even happening. In the US ketamine clinics are popping up all over and it is literally the closest thing to a miracle drug that I’ve ever experienced. I’ve always struggled immensely with mental illness, when I was younger I had all the ADHD, OCD, Tourette’s, Panic disorder diagnoses on the planet eventually evolving into a major depressive disorder, then bipolar 1 and now I have a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder and somehow the ketamine treatments made almost all of it go away or at least get much easier to manage, I’ve tried every medication, therapy and doctor out there and I have never felt as normal as I do right now it seriously gave me my life back after 21 years of constant pain and confusion and more people need access to this treatment because it is very widely applicable and it’s effect is seen almost immediately instead of having to wait weeks to reach certain concentrations in the blood and not only does it work immediately but it completely changes your state of being for weeks after you have a single 1.5 hour treatment. Like am I the only one who thinks it’s crazy that a drug historically counter-indicated by psychosis is the most effective treatment for psychosis that I’ve ever experienced.

    I've never watched Breaking Bad, and still don't intend to, but this has been the first time I've gotten a better idea of what the show is about outside of 'Dying high school teacher makes drugs to pay medical bills and is angry and everyone memes about it.'
    Also, I never usually request/suggest ideas, but I've been slowly catching up/back watching videos and haven't seen these two suggested so eh, why not:
    - Ted Lasso: obvious stuff like the episodes that look at panic attacks and trauma explicitly, but there's also a throughline of different defence mechanisms/coping strategies such as masking, anger, toxic positivity etc., and also examples of positive psychology and effective leadership styles in sport (Also it's just a really good show).
    - Sanders Sides: TH-cam series by Thomas Sanders (hear me out). A fictionalised version of Thomas Sanders talks to different facets of his personality to solve problems. Earlier videos are shorter and more straightforward e.g. strategies to handle cognitive distortions and negative thinking, how to avoid procrastination; later videos MUCH longer and look at more complex issues e.g. Dealing With Intrusive Thoughts. The personal conflicts between the sides are an explicit analogy for a person grappling with inner conflict/decision making/self growth etc.

    As a UK doctor, I can understand your lack of understanding
    If you sought psych care as a cop in North America, your career advancement is OVER. End of story. You are now a security risk, a weak spot. I was in the Canadian Forces and almost got blacklisted when I tried to join because I had had play therapy when I was 10 years old! Mental health is not big in police/armed forces enviroments. Add in a recent situation when a veteran with PTSD went to Veterans' Affairs or help with PTSD from his time in Afghanistan and their first suggestion, FIRST s+SUGGESTion, was assisted suicide
    Also, US health info protection is far stronger than you may realize, HIPPA rules are taken VERY seriously by the US courts
