Dr Fung literally saved my life. I was on insulin and metformin for 4 years. Following Dr Fungs advice in his books, I got off both meds. My insulin resistance has returned to that of a non-diabetic person. I lost 60 pounds in 10 weeks (great side effect).

Dr Nadir Mir Ali in Texas is fantastic and tends to inject humor from time to time so with all his medical/technical jargon - should you catch it he’s quite funny!!! He’s a cardiologist but VERY up to date and aware of getting to the root cause! His website says it all “EAT MOSTLY FAT”

As always up to date doctors are fascinating teachers! Wish my PCP and interventional cardio doc would even just catch up with keto and intermittent fasting AND insulin resistance. They’re younger than me and consider me non- compliant because 2 1/2 years on keto/IF I got off all 17 meds. I’m nearly 66 years old. Think I’m outgrowing my doctors. Sad.
Same here, I have a pacemaker and had bypass surgery at age 56 from decades of eating LOW FAT HIGH CARB as per the food pyramid. 5 years now HIGH FAT LOW CARB. Never felt better in my life. My PCP and cardio don’t get it either. There’s a reason people turn to the internet for their health, the medical establishment is full of sh-t Stay safe, stay healthy.
Valter Longo, an Italian biologists did research experiments and proved that fasting fights cancer. However he couldn't get patients and doctors to adopt the intervention in actual practice. So he came up with the "Fasting Mimicking Diet". A person can eat some foods but still get the benefits of fasting. It is currently being used successfully to fight cancer. However our legal system prevents this from being promoted or any claims made.
Latest published papers , fasting Chemo and IV vitamin C have had even greater results. Valter, not Walter Longo, sorry to correct but may be necessary for people wanting to read the published Data. Pubmed is a great place to start.

I guess I live in a different world... I have been eating twice a day ( morning and mid-afternoon) for decades ( low carb, lots of vegetables, eggs, cheese, less than 2#s of meat/yr. -- never ever been overweight, always naturally very thin, get regular vigorous exercise). People really eat 6+ times a day?.. what kind of food bills do they have?... I couldn’t afford to eat that way. At 64+ I have no medical issues, never get sick, have plenty of energy, grow my own food, run my own home based businesses... and live simply ( nearly off the grid, cook and heat with wood in winter ), dig my gardens by hand.... I hope I can get Dr. Fung’s books through the library.... What about waist circumference in someone with a significant scoliosis? That circumference includes going around ribs etc., therefore for that population it wouldn’t be a very accurate measurement.
He counts anytime you have a snack or even popping a piece of candy in your mouth as eating. We've been fed a bill of goods in our country that you need to eat 5-6 small meals every day to keep your blood sugar even. All utter bs, since every time you eat you have an insulin response and have to divert energy that could be used for healing in the complicated digestion process. Now that I know this, and have at least 16 hours between last and first meals, never eat 3 meals a day, and do weekend fasts a couple times a month, the weight it falling off me. Love Dr. Fung!
33:04, All cancers share one thing. Damaged mitochondria. The mitochondria are known to be dysfunctional in at least two ways. 1. The mitochondria in cancer cells cannot switch over to burning ketone bodies for energy as normal mitochondria can, (Warburg Effect). 2. In normal cells the mitochondria are in charge of signaling apoptosis, programmed cell death. In cancer cells the mitochondria have lost this ability hence unregulated cell growth. Many things can damage mitochondria including a virus. The immune systems kills most cancer cells before they become tumors. Crank up your immune system with vitamin D3. Dr Fung I just had a mastectomy and an 20 lbs over weight in stomach. I’m trying to figure out what got m. The Timor was HUGE. I can say I Vegas deep depression and jealousy and anger in my life. I’m in mid70s. I also developed a hunger for sugars and sweets. Is all this possibly a reason for the aggressive cancer. It hasn’t spread but I was guaranteed I’d be dead in a year and ? Months if I don’t get chemo and radiation. I’ll never touch sugar ever again and I’m going back to transcendental meditation. I teach research methods and love this discussion. Science should be eager to disprove our hypotheses. However, now, orthodoxy sets in quickly, gets all kind of money for research and never stops to check the primary hypothesis if data contradicts it.
Thanks for this incredibly useful information. I'm terminally ill from a rare form of cancer, peritoneal carcinomatosis. Recently I switched to a ketogenic diet and go at least 12 hours in between eating, hoping to at least extend remission. It will be interesting to see if there's any impact on the growth and spread of the cancer. Certainly I have little to lose in the attempt.

Look into a 21 day fast. It's important to get nutrition along the way, but sugar looks like a big no no for cancer. I fast for 19 hours every day and have done for two years. I lost 113 pounds of body weight and reversed type 2 diabetes. I also got rid of a ton of bone inflammation. I studied Dr Fung, Dr Berry, Dr Boz and Dr Ekberg.
His book was so useful to me. Mucosal melanoma in my nose. Surgery plus Immunotherapy plus keto is my path. Currently cancer free. Interestingly having a high level of mutations is a good predictor for a good response to PD-1 immunotherapy; mucosal has a low level of mutations but across tumors there is lots of variability. They still are developing targeted therapies to certain genes in cancer tumors (e.g. BRAF+, KIT). You can get side effects from immunotherapy; when the brakes are off, your T cells can cause an autoimmune response.

Five years ago, I would have heard him talking and thought, what the hell is he speaking about ?? I would have written a glossary.... and looked everything up, for eg what is BRCA gene ? etc etc. Now I breeze through medical terms and have my mind blown right along with him. I've come to understand transcription factors and methylation, genetic mutation, and epigenics, biomarkers and a whole plethora of other information that continues to show me just how amazing our bodies are, and just how ignorant we spend the majority of our life. No wonder we are all getting sick. No shade, I was really sick, that's how I got here, back to health, but with a whole new appreciation, knowledge base and curiosity to continue learning as i go through the second half of my life. Makes me happy to know I've really taken hold of my health and my life or as Dr Fung says 'the soil'. Being unhealthy really is 20% genes and 80 % choice. Choose wisely, you might cheat the clock in youth, but our choices come back to bite.
I have T2D and my PCP or dietition was no help. The foods play big roles in our health. I've learned doctors are in it for money. He is sharing info we can impliments into our diets to assist if we need to make diet changes in our lifestyle. I now do fasting and low carb high fat diets to manage weight loss, lower my glucose, and A1C results. High carb diet definitely did my body great harmed over time but I am taking charge of it. He helped me a lot in my overall health changes. I'm happy I've found him here.

On the subject of eating snacks- yes! Snacks were figuratively, and darned close to literally, shoved down our throats. I remember standing there in shock that a teacher was trying to make us eat when it was not time for it, and kids crying . I went home and told Mom they were making us drink milk and have graham crackers only an hour or two after we got to school. So, she told me to quit eating breakfast at home. I read so many articles and heard so many things from parents and children, all of whom hated it but the parents were being convinced it had to happen. And, after a while, the kids started liking it. Because, they got treats as snacks when they would not get them at other times. But that didn't last long because "Oh no, we need healthy snacks!" and then the kids still wanted treats, so throw in another snack. And, "healthy" was, like, salty pretzel sticks with celery and peanut butter. So, lots of calories and fat and glu e .. I mean, flour and salt. So gross! My feeling was - and boy did I get in trouble for saying so- if we are going to have meals, let's have only the meals and if we are going to snack, let's only have snacks, even at meal times. It was too much food and time wastage.
I was lucky enough to have herceptin for hert2 breast cancer 7 years ago...my personal theory about cancer involves the effects life long stress has on our cells. Even though I was athletic, healthy eater, stress seems to be the common denominator for myself and many other people I met also going through treatment. No one is talking about the detrimental effects stress has on our bodies and the link to cancers...I'm thinking stressed cells would not absorb nutrients properly. It's a common observation that positive thinkers have a better outlook, why is that do you think? It's not a random connection either.
Stress in medical terms corresponds to elevated levels of cortisol aka the stress hormone, which could be one of the triggers of bringing about cancer.
Yeah, that's what Fung is also stating about the cigarette smoking and the cells being stressed to de-volve into the single-cellular variant, which can cause cancer. Every stressor on your body can eventually cause cancer. That's also why it's so beneficial to fast every now and then. Most diets involve stressing your intestinal system at least to a small minimum degree, even healthy diets. By fasting you are halting this stress, so your body can recuperate, broadly speaking. This is also true in case of for example doing muscle-building exercises. It's amazing for your body to do strength training, but if you overdo it, you keep stressing your body very hard, and you have to eat a lot which also stresses the body hard. You may end up very healthy while looking healthy, if this isn't done with proper resting in between sessions
I’ve been keto for 18 months and have gained many benefits from it but listening to this interview makes me think we don’t really know everything about this carb issue. It might be much more nuanced than what we think...
Keto is just very good because it forces you to plan and think about your food a lot, which makes you obsess with healthy foods and instill a lot of amazing food habits. Increasing healthy fats, limiting/reducing/deleting sugar intake and processed bullshit, increasing low carb high nutrient foods in general etc. This will give you amazing benefits. It's not purely the ketosis that's doing you good. I mean, it's really easy to lose weight while in ketosis, because of the hunger-surpressing. But you can gain almost all the benefits from a proper ketogenic diet from a plant-based diet or even a carnivore diet, if done properly. It's just that the average person's diet is total shit, so anything that changes that already makes you wayyyyy healthier.
Back in 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. To remove the cancer, my right kidney, spleen and 80 percent of my pancreas was removed. Endocrinologist said that automatically makes me a type 2 diabetic. She said I'm fighting a battle I can't win with only 20 percent of a pancreas. Is there anyone in this group with a partial pancreas having success with fasting and a very low carb diet? I'm not asking for medical advice. I'm asking if there is anyone like me in this group. I've been cancer free for 2 years now.

Because in the absence of oxygen, cell hypoxia, almost every cell in the body can revert to glycolysis for energy production in order to not die, it's the cell's ability to switch to a different metabolism in order to continue to make energy without oxygen and the Oxidative Phosphorylation metabolism that requires oxygen. Otto Warburg went on record saying that a cancer cell is more versatile than a normal cell because a cancer cell can use either fermentation or respiration, meaning either glycolysis or oxidative phosphorylation, to make energy whereas a normal cell that uses oxidative phosphorylation can only use respiration to make energy, that's just one reason why cancer cells are hard to kill. 32:21 And that's why every multi-celled animal that has ever existed has the potential to get cancer, because all animals have cells that have the ability to switch from oxidative metabolism to a fermentive metabolism that causes unregulated uncontrolled and undifferentiated cell growth, i.e. cancer.

Virtually no one in medical science except Tom Seyfried have ever taken the time to learn any of Warburg's work which has been known for almost a hundred years, they're STILL ignoring and not teaching anyone anything about Warburg. But that's because they can't teach things they don't know and haven't studied themselves first.
It's very difficult to find a doctor that is well read on nutrition. Most think nutrition has very little to do with disease. It's a shame but we really need to doctor ourselves and follow the advice of doctors such as these.

The keto/carnivore community is rapidly building up a large body of anecdotal and indeed scientific evidence of the change to chronic inflammation from diet, especially carnivory. I have experienced a great reduction of inflammation and metabolic damage after going carnivore, let alone auto immune, gastrointestinal and colonic problems have either been radically reduced or have disappeared. Who’d have thought?
I was thinking that if I get cancer I would try to starve it from glucose and glutamate, by eating/fasting only coconut oil or butter for 2 months and doing resistance training (for the glutamate/aspartic acid)
Starve the cancer cell so it dies off. It makes sense if we don't feed it it's not going to rapidly grows and killing good cells. By starving it by fasting no nutrients is feeding the cancer cells. Why professional don't talk about it only tells us where they lies in wanting to cure or heal the sick patients. Money runs the world.

I would like you to do an episode on the role of Keto and IF in prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. A lot of data on the one hand says prostate cancer loves ketones and fat, while others say it is not about Keto but about insulin resistance; those with IR at higher risk. There's just not much out there on this cancer and keto and intermittent fasting.

I often wonder if all that chemo I had (that meant I could not eat for weeks -losing 33lbs in six weeks of treatments) really helped - I wonder if it was LESS about the toxic effects of the platinum circulating and killing my GI lining, or was it actually a benefit because it enforced radical fasting and weight loss??
If indeed your body totally rebuilds itself every 2 years, eating more healthy high quality low carb means your body will be built more healthy of better stuff, and I'll go out on a limb to say more cancer resistant and with a better immune system. Get that autophagy going!
Hi, I'm hoping you can pass a message to Dr Fong. Please ask him to guide research towards body temperature and it's influence on breast cancer, TNBC in particular. It appears there has been no recent research on how TNBC is able to manipulate body temperature to make it a more habitable environment. When the body is kept at a higher temperature, the cloaking ability of TNBC is broken down and this allows T-cells to see the cancer for what it is and attack the cancer and destroy it. I love Jason Fung but I've heard all the interviews on this book and read most of it and I don't really understand the point of it. I feel like the summary is just: "the origin of cancer and treating it is complicated", with no real answers. I feel like since he's the fasting doctor, it was a wasted opportunity to talk about fasting and cancer, which is a massive topic.

I had a very small cancer on my right breast. The surgeon took it out. I don't want radiation. I want to fast.I have fasted before. Is this the safe way to go?
I mean just recognizing that the mutations don't make cancer, it means that cancer are our cells, not some mutant version. The whole dichotomy of cancer vs us goes out the window. It's our cells running a program that is almost certainly for a overall benefitial purpose, otherwise not every animal would have kept that same program. Just like every animal has an immune system. 40:23 of course cancer would show up after multicellular life started, as unicellular life can't have cancer 48:35 so the Catabans (?) are in reality fasting because they are tired of their carb foods? That's what happens if people try to push everything into their paradigm.

Does anybody know where an example can be found of a diet that provides nutrition during a long term fast? I've heard that bone broth is a good option and is unlikely to stimulate insulin. What I'm looking out for is an example of a daily nutritional intake, so as to not starve to death, but be able to fast for long periods - in the hope of fighting various cancers. I'm following Doctors Fung, Berry, Boz, Berg and Ekberg.
I have a problem with high triglycerides usually above 250, has recently been above 735 and even 1200. My blood glucose is very low, the last two week average measured with a CGM was 84. I have a foot ulcer that has largely prevented me from getting exercise. Any recommendations that I could share with my doctor. I am perplexed, please any direction would be helpful.
I’ve lowered triglycerides from over 500 to 74.... the answer is KETO KETO KETO, eat steak cooked in bacon grease and butter... sardines and canned mackerel..... it WORKS... I’m down 61 lbs....

I tend to focus upon language, a reflex where one looks to logic. What the cool Dr. Fung discussed at one point is described as evolutionary. This term didn't work for me. He was describing a devolution to a more primitive state as a reaction to a poor soil, Dr. Fung's metaphor. Don't panic, but this is best described as intelligent design within the body's instructions to return to a state that may preserve existence. Are we saying cancer is merely cells trying to survive in a poor soil?
i'm partial to the idea of the atavistic theory of cancer being onto something, and the idea of the somatic mutation theory as not a satisfying explanation of cancer genesis, but isn't it a stretch to say that this is a new way people are thinking of cancer. I think it's still considered somewhat on the fringe and is mostly pushed by one main researcher - Paul Davies. I do think what cancer is still very poorly understood on the whole but there is not much consensus on any alternate theory beyond the SMT at present.
I want to ask perhaps a silly question... My uncle who was such a healthy guy, healthy weight (very slim), ate the right foods, fasted occasionally and exercised almost every day developed lung cancer in his mid 60s. He had no diabetes either. Would that have been random or from some other underlying cause? He passed away 2+ years after his diagnosis.
Shawn Perine, the editor of Muscle&Fitness died in his early 50s due to lung cancer. With healthy persons like that it's bad luck and/or exposure to real carcinogens. But science on this topic won't advance as long as the myopic and wrong mantra 'smoking causes lung cancer' prevails.

What you and most people have are not silly questions, what most people in the entire world have is silly ASSUMPTIONS, but those are intentionally conditioned by the medical and political establishment, but that's a different discussion for a different time. What silly assumptions means lies within the statements you make. You say "he was such a healthy guy". No, you ASSUMED he was a healthy guy. You say he maintained a healthy weight (very slim), No, you ASSUMED that weight was "healthy" or conferred or was proof of "health". You say he "ate the right foods". No, you assumed they were the right foods. You say he "fasted occasionally and exercised almost every day and had no diabetes". You assumed those things would support and give him health or was evidence and proof of being "healthy". But what was the OUTCOME AND RESULT of all that? He died. So if that was what happened as a result of all that, what does that say about the accuracy or truthfulness of those assumptions? It says none of those thing mean anything real or true about health if it results in sickness, disease, heart attacks, cancer and death. My favorite "health" myth is how the entire world is conditioned into believing that being sexily lean and thin somehow equates to and is a true sign of real health. Wrong, Jim Fixx, Grete Weitz and many other extremely physically fit people routinely drop dead and die from heart attacks or cancer all the time, so what does that fact prove about the belief that being lean and physically fit is "healthy" or is a sign or proof of real solid good health? It doesn't mean squat. So when it comes to medical "studies", government health advice, nutritional guidelines, procedures, policies and "standards of care" all supposedly based on "science based evidence" that all the "authorities" and "experts" all over the world point to and cite as "evidence" of the validity of all their policies or "studies", I say and always tell and teach people to ask "But what was the OUTCOME AND RESULT?" The medical and pharmaceutical industries pat and stroke themselves and each other about their "evidence based standards of care" and development and use of "lifesaviing and disease fighting drugs and toxic chemicals" and "state of the science art treatments" and they point to the "5 year survival" statistics as proof and true evidence of the correctness of their procedures, processes and policies. But RIGHT THERE is where you ask that question again, "Ok, but what was the outcome and results?" Then they hang their heads, look their shoes and say "Well, the patient died." So then HOW AND WHAT GOOD was all their science, evidence, procedures, policies and beliefs? They don't mean shit. OUTCOME AND RESULTS ALWAYS TRUMPS CONTRIVED MANIPULATED AND INTENTIONALLY ENGINEERED "EVIDENCE". Outcome and results is the ONLY standard that matters because it REVEALS THE TRUTH about all the myths, biases and dogma about "healthcare". It's time that we have a health system that's based on Outcome and Results instead of the Big Pharma Big Medicine "contrived evidence" based regime we are suffering under. They probable won't ever let that happen so we just have to establish and practice that in our own private lives individually. So what does all that mean and apply to you right now? It means it's time to examine ALL your assumptions and "beliefs" about nutrition and health, and it means you have to start looking for other, DIFFERENT and better sources of information and knowledge, because taking and relying on incomplete or untrue advice and information from the usual establishement sources and experts ISN'T WORKING. The more they tighten up their"standards and guidelines" the disease and death rates INCREASE and go the opposite way. That should tell you someting about the quality and veracity of all their shenanigans. There's a lot of real solid truth, fact and science out there in the world and in my opinion and experience the best place to go to start relearning everything you think you already know is among the Low Carb High Fat, Ketogenic and Paleo Diet groups. I stumbled on those groups in 2009, soaked up and continue to learn as much as I can and used that knowledge to change my diet and what and how I was eating and lost 70 pounds over eight months WITH ABSOLUTELY ZERO EXERCISE of any kind. The people and sources I found and continue to find in my study and research have put me on a lifelong path of continuing good health, I'm still human and am not impervious to ALL disease and will someday die like everyone does, but the things I have learned have taken away all the uncertanty and anxiety I had about my health and quality of life and has given me the confidence of knowing that I am in control of my body and health and how to properly respond to any problems that may arise. You just need to learn some new things, and it's not hard, you can do it and at least resolve some of the questions you have. So good luck and have fun, life is short, and we're not here for a long time so make sure you're having a good time in whatever you are doing.
Seems there are a number of reasons a cancer will happen. My thought is if he was exposed to a strong carcinogen and it ended up in his lung, it would have been a tough thing to cure. So unfortunate. I'm sorry for your loss. My uncle was a pretty healthy guy, however, he was exposed to asbestos and died of lung cancer.
Long before modern medicine saw the value of fasting, Moses, Buddha, Yashua (Jesus) and Muhammad advocated it. In the U.S. Norman S. W. Walker in his book “Pure & Simple Natural Weight Control” and Elijah Muhammad in his book “How to Eat to Live” stated all of this as well but 50 years ago they were called “crazy” for advocating what we now call “intermittent fasting”, juicing and eating clean natural food. Just keep living, studying and getting better.
37:00 thereabouts, those Hiroshima victims, nobody knows how much does they were exposed to. They might have been suntanning nude or they might have been inside the underground dungeon or basement when the bomb exploded, under the bomb directly or a few km away, some evacuated the blast site, some remained. Maybe it is the cumulative radiation dose, cos even cancer radiotherapy is also a 'once off event' with sessions over many weeks, not over decades like hepatitis B etc.
Dr Fung literally saved my life. I was on insulin and metformin for 4 years. Following Dr Fungs advice in his books, I got off both meds. My insulin resistance has returned to that of a non-diabetic person. I lost 60 pounds in 10 weeks (great side effect).

As always up to date doctors are fascinating teachers! Wish my PCP and interventional cardio doc would even just catch up with keto and intermittent fasting AND insulin resistance. They’re younger than me and consider me non- compliant because 2 1/2 years on keto/IF I got off all 17 meds. I’m nearly 66 years old. Think I’m outgrowing my doctors. Sad.

Same here, I have a pacemaker and had bypass surgery at age 56 from decades of eating LOW FAT HIGH CARB as per the food pyramid. 5 years now HIGH FAT LOW CARB. Never felt better in my life. Valter Longo, an Italian biologists did research experiments and proved that fasting fights cancer. However he couldn't get patients and doctors to adopt the intervention in actual practice. So he came up with the "Fasting Mimicking Diet". A person can eat some foods but still get the benefits of fasting. It is currently being used successfully to fight cancer. However our legal system prevents this from being promoted or any claims made.

I guess I live in a different world... I have been eating twice a day ( morning and mid-afternoon) for decades ( low carb, lots of vegetables, eggs, cheese, less than 2#s of meat/yr. -- never ever been overweight, always naturally very thin, get regular vigorous exercise). People really eat 6+ times a day?.. what kind of food bills do they have?... I couldn’t afford to eat that way. At 64+ I have no medical issues, never get sick, have plenty of energy, grow my own food, run my own home based businesses... and live simply ( nearly off the grid, cook and heat with wood in winter ), dig my gardens by hand.... I hope I can get Dr. Fung’s books through the library.... What about waist circumference in someone with a significant scoliosis? That circumference includes going around ribs etc., therefore for that population it wouldn’t be a very accurate measurement.
He counts anytime you have a snack or even popping a piece of candy in your mouth as eating. We've been fed a bill of goods in our country that you need to eat 5-6 small meals every day to keep your blood sugar even. All utter bs, since every time you eat you have an insulin response and have to divert energy that could be used for healing in the complicated digestion process. Now that I know this, and have at least 16 hours between last and first meals, never eat 3 meals a day, and do weekend fasts a couple times a month, the weight it falling off me. Love Dr. Fung!

33:04, All cancers share one thing. Damaged mitochondria. The mitochondria are known to be dysfunctional in at least two ways. 1. The mitochondria in cancer cells cannot switch over to burning ketone bodies for energy as normal mitochondria can, (Warburg Effect). 2. In normal cells the mitochondria are in charge of signaling apoptosis, programmed cell death. In cancer cells the mitochondria have lost this ability hence unregulated cell growth. Many things can damage mitochondria including a virus. The immune systems kills most cancer cells before they become tumors. Crank up your immune system with vitamin D3. Dr Fung I just had a mastectomy and an 20 lbs over weight in stomach. I’m trying to figure out what got m. The Timor was HUGE. I can say I Vegas deep depression and jealousy and anger in my life. I’m in mid70s. I also developed a hunger for sugars and sweets. Is all this possibly a reason for the aggressive cancer. It hasn’t spread but I was guaranteed I’d be dead in a year and ? Months if I don’t get chemo and radiation. I’ll never touch sugar ever again and I’m going back to transcendental meditation. I teach research methods and love this discussion. Science should be eager to disprove our hypotheses. However, now, orthodoxy sets in quickly, gets all kind of money for research and never stops to check the primary hypothesis if data contradicts it.
Thanks for this incredibly useful information. I'm terminally ill from a rare form of cancer, peritoneal carcinomatosis. Recently I switched to a ketogenic diet and go at least 12 hours in between eating, hoping to at least extend remission. It will be interesting to see if there's any impact on the growth and spread of the cancer. Certainly I have little to lose in the attempt.

Look into a 21 day fast. It's important to get nutrition along the way, but sugar looks like a big no no for cancer.
I fast for 19 hours every day and have done for two years. I lost 113 pounds of body weight and reversed type 2 diabetes. I also got rid of a ton of bone inflammation.
I studied Dr Fung, Dr Berry, Dr Boz and Dr Ekberg.

His book was so useful to me. Mucosal melanoma in my nose. Surgery plus Immunotherapy plus keto is my path. Currently cancer free. Interestingly having a high level of mutations is a good predictor for a good response to PD-1 immunotherapy; mucosal has a low level of mutations but across tumors there is lots of variability. They still are developing targeted therapies to certain genes in cancer tumors (e.g. BRAF+, KIT).
You can get side effects from immunotherapy; when the brakes are off, your T cells can cause an autoimmune response.
Did you have any side effects?
@@CG-mj8tk yes I had colitis. Had to take prednisone, but doing good otherwise. I am NED since I started immunotherapy. No cancer detected when I had surgery to establish margins. 2pet scans later, still NED.

Five years ago, I would have heard him talking and thought, what the hell is he speaking about ?? I would have written a glossary.... and looked everything up, for eg what is BRCA gene ? etc etc.
Now I breeze through
medical terms and have my mind blown right along with him. I've come to understand transcription factors and methylation, genetic mutation, and epigenics, biomarkers and a whole plethora of other information that continues to show me just how amazing our bodies are, and just how ignorant we spend the majority of our life. No wonder we are all getting sick. No shade, I was really sick, that's how I got here, back to health, but with a whole new appreciation, knowledge base and curiosity to continue learning as i go through the second half of my life. Makes me happy to know I've really taken hold of my health and my life or as Dr Fung says 'the soil'. Being unhealthy really is 20% genes and 80 % choice. Choose wisely, you might cheat the clock in youth, but our choices come back to bite.
I have T2D and my PCP or dietition was no help. The foods play big roles in our health. I've learned doctors are in it for money. He is sharing info we can impliments into our diets to assist if we need to make diet changes in our lifestyle.
I now do fasting and low carb high fat diets to manage weight loss, lower my glucose, and A1C results. High carb diet definitely did my body great harmed over time but I am taking charge of it. He helped me a lot in my overall health changes. I'm happy I've found him here.

On the subject of eating snacks- yes! Snacks were figuratively, and darned close to literally, shoved down our throats. I remember standing there in shock that a teacher was trying to make us eat when it was not time for it, and kids crying . I went home and told Mom they were making us drink milk and have graham crackers only an hour or two after we got to school. So, she told me to quit eating breakfast at home. I read so many articles and heard so many things from parents and children, all of whom hated it but the parents were being convinced it had to happen. And, after a while, the kids started liking it. Because, they got treats as snacks when they would not get them at other times. But that didn't last long because "Oh no, we need healthy snacks!" and then the kids still wanted treats, so throw in another snack. And, "healthy" was, like, salty pretzel sticks with celery and peanut butter. So, lots of calories and fat and glu e .. I mean, flour and salt. So gross! My feeling was - and boy did I get in trouble for saying so- if we are going to have meals, let's have only the meals and if we are going to snack, let's only have snacks, even at meal times. It was too much food and time wastage.

I was lucky enough to have herceptin for hert2 breast cancer 7 years ago...my personal theory about cancer involves the effects life long stress has on our cells. Even though I was athletic, healthy eater, stress seems to be the common denominator for myself and many other people I met also going through treatment. No one is talking about the detrimental effects stress has on our bodies and the link to cancers...I'm thinking stressed cells would not absorb nutrients properly. It's a common observation that positive thinkers have a better outlook, why is that do you think? It's not a random connection either.
Stress in medical terms corresponds to elevated levels of cortisol aka the stress hormone, which could be one of the triggers of bringing about cancer.

Yeah, that's what Fung is also stating about the cigarette smoking and the cells being stressed to de-volve into the single-cellular variant, which can cause cancer. Every stressor on your body can eventually cause cancer. That's also why it's so beneficial to fast every now and then. Most diets involve stressing your intestinal system at least to a small minimum degree, even healthy diets. By fasting you are halting this stress, so your body can recuperate, broadly speaking. This is also true in case of for example doing muscle-building exercises. It's amazing for your body to do strength training, but if you overdo it, you keep stressing your body very hard, and you have to eat a lot which also stresses the body hard. You may end up very healthy while looking healthy, if this isn't done with proper resting in between sessions

I’ve been keto for 18 months and have gained many benefits from it but listening to this interview makes me think we don’t really know everything about this carb issue. It might be much more nuanced than what we think...
It's rarely just one thing.
Keto is just very good because it forces you to plan and think about your food a lot, which makes you obsess with healthy foods and instill a lot of amazing food habits. Increasing healthy fats, limiting/reducing/deleting sugar intake and processed bullshit, increasing low carb high nutrient foods in general etc. This will give you amazing benefits. It's not purely the ketosis that's doing you good. I mean, it's really easy to lose weight while in ketosis, because of the hunger-surpressing. But you can gain almost all the benefits from a proper ketogenic diet from a plant-based diet or even a carnivore diet, if done properly. It's just that the average person's diet is total shit, so anything that changes that already makes you wayyyyy healthier.
The thing with Keto is that it makes it very easy to fast . I haven’t even caught a cold since I’ve been doing it. 🙏
Back in 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. To remove the cancer, my right kidney, spleen and 80 percent of my pancreas was removed. Endocrinologist said that automatically makes me a type 2 diabetic. She said I'm fighting a battle I can't win with only 20 percent of a pancreas. Is there anyone in this group with a partial pancreas having success with fasting and a very low carb diet? I'm not asking for medical advice. I'm asking if there is anyone like me in this group. I've been cancer free for 2 years now.

Because in the absence of oxygen, cell hypoxia, almost every cell in the body can revert to glycolysis for energy production in order to not die, it's the cell's ability to switch to a different metabolism in order to continue to make energy without oxygen and the Oxidative Phosphorylation metabolism that requires oxygen.
Otto Warburg went on record saying that a cancer cell is more versatile than a normal cell because a cancer cell can use either fermentation or respiration, meaning either glycolysis or oxidative phosphorylation, to make energy whereas a normal cell that uses oxidative phosphorylation can only use respiration to make energy, that's just one reason why cancer cells are hard to kill.
32:21 And that's why every multi-celled animal that has ever existed has the potential to get cancer, because all animals have cells that have the ability to switch from oxidative metabolism to a fermentive metabolism that causes unregulated uncontrolled and undifferentiated cell growth, i.e. cancer.

Virtually no one in medical science except Tom Seyfried have ever taken the time to learn any of Warburg's work which has been known for almost a hundred years, they're STILL ignoring and not teaching anyone anything about Warburg. But that's because they can't teach things they don't know and haven't studied themselves first.
It's very difficult to find a doctor that is well read on nutrition. Most think nutrition has very little to do with disease. It's a shame but we really need to doctor ourselves and follow the advice of doctors such as these.

The keto/carnivore community is rapidly building up a large body of anecdotal and indeed scientific evidence of the change to chronic inflammation from diet, especially carnivory. I have experienced a great reduction of inflammation and metabolic damage after going carnivore, let alone auto immune, gastrointestinal and colonic problems have either been radically reduced or have disappeared. Who’d have thought?

I was thinking that if I get cancer I would try to starve it from glucose and glutamate, by eating/fasting only coconut oil or butter for 2 months and doing resistance training (for the glutamate/aspartic acid)
Starve the cancer cell so it dies off. It makes sense if we don't feed it it's not going to rapidly grows and killing good cells. By starving it by fasting no nutrients is feeding the cancer cells. Why professional don't talk about it only tells us where they lies in wanting to cure or heal the sick patients. Money runs the world.

I would like you to do an episode on the role of Keto and IF in prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. A lot of data on the one hand says prostate cancer loves ketones and fat, while others say it is not about Keto but about insulin resistance; those with IR at higher risk. There's just not much out there on this cancer and keto and intermittent fasting.

I often wonder if all that chemo I had (that meant I could not eat for weeks -losing 33lbs in six weeks of treatments) really helped - I wonder if it was LESS about the toxic effects of the platinum circulating and killing my GI lining, or was it actually a benefit because it enforced radical fasting and weight loss??

I'm hoping you can pass a message to Dr Fong. Please ask him to guide research towards body temperature and it's influence on breast cancer, TNBC in particular. It appears there has been no recent research on how TNBC is able to manipulate body temperature to make it a more habitable environment. When the body is kept at a higher temperature, the cloaking ability of TNBC is broken down and this allows T-cells to see the cancer for what it is and attack the cancer and destroy it.

I mean just recognizing that the mutations don't make cancer, it means that cancer are our cells, not some mutant version. The whole dichotomy of cancer vs us goes out the window. It's our cells running a program that is almost certainly for a overall benefitial purpose, otherwise not every animal would have kept that same program. Just like every animal has an immune system.

Does anybody know where an example can be found of a diet that provides nutrition during a long term fast? I've heard that bone broth is a good option and is unlikely to stimulate insulin. What I'm looking out for is an example of a daily nutritional intake, so as to not starve to death, but be able to fast for long periods - in the hope of fighting various cancers.

I have a problem with high triglycerides usually above 250, has recently been above 735 and even 1200. My blood glucose is very low, the last two week average measured with a CGM was 84. I have a foot ulcer that has largely prevented me from getting exercise.
Any recommendations that I could share with my doctor. I am perplexed, please any direction would be helpful.
I’ve lowered triglycerides from over 500 to 74.... the answer is KETO KETO KETO, eat steak cooked in bacon grease and butter... sardines and canned mackerel..... it WORKS... I’m down 61 lbs....

I tend to focus upon language, a reflex where one looks to logic. What the cool Dr. Fung discussed at one point is described as evolutionary. This term didn't work for me. He was describing a devolution to a more primitive state as a reaction to a poor soil, Dr. Fung's metaphor. Don't panic, but this is best described as intelligent design within the body's instructions to return to a state that may preserve existence. Are we saying cancer is merely cells trying to survive in a poor soil?

i'm partial to the idea of the atavistic theory of cancer being onto something, and the idea of the somatic mutation theory as not a satisfying explanation of cancer genesis, but isn't it a stretch to say that this is a new way people are thinking of cancer. I think it's still considered somewhat on the fringe and is mostly pushed by one main researcher - Paul Davies. I do think what cancer is still very poorly understood on the whole but there is not much consensus on any alternate theory beyond the SMT at present.
I want to ask perhaps a silly question... My uncle who was such a healthy guy, healthy weight (very slim), ate the right foods, fasted occasionally and exercised almost every day developed lung cancer in his mid 60s.
He had no diabetes either.
Would that have been random or from some other underlying cause?
He passed away 2+ years after his diagnosis.
Shawn Perine, the editor of Muscle&Fitness died in his early 50s due to lung cancer. With healthy persons like that it's bad luck and/or exposure to real carcinogens. But science on this topic won't advance as long as the myopic and wrong mantra 'smoking causes lung cancer' prevails.

What you and most people have are not silly questions, what most people in the entire world have is silly ASSUMPTIONS, but those are intentionally conditioned by the medical and political establishment, but that's a different discussion for a different time.
What silly assumptions means lies within the statements you make. You say "he was such a healthy guy". No, you ASSUMED he was a healthy guy.
You say he maintained a healthy weight (very slim), No, you ASSUMED that weight was "healthy" or conferred or was proof of "health".
You say he "ate the right foods". No, you assumed they were the right foods.
You say he "fasted occasionally and exercised almost every day and had no diabetes". You assumed those things would support and give him health or was evidence and proof of being "healthy".
But what was the OUTCOME AND RESULT of all that? He died. So if that was what happened as a result of all that, what does that say about the accuracy or truthfulness of those assumptions?
It says none of those thing mean anything real or true about health if it results in sickness, disease, heart attacks, cancer and death.
My favorite "health" myth is how the entire world is conditioned into believing that being sexily lean and thin somehow equates to and is a true sign of real health. Wrong, Jim Fixx, Grete Weitz and many other extremely physically fit people routinely drop dead and die from heart attacks or cancer all the time, so what does that fact prove about the belief that being lean and physically fit is "healthy" or is a sign or proof of real solid good health?
It doesn't mean squat. So when it comes to medical "studies", government health advice, nutritional guidelines, procedures, policies and "standards of care" all supposedly based on "science based evidence" that all the "authorities" and "experts" all over the world point to and cite as "evidence" of the validity of all their policies or "studies", I say and always tell and teach people to ask "But what was the OUTCOME AND RESULT?"
The medical and pharmaceutical industries pat and stroke themselves and each other about their "evidence based standards of care" and development and use of "lifesaviing and disease fighting drugs and toxic chemicals" and "state of the science art treatments" and they point to the "5 year survival" statistics as proof and true evidence of the correctness of their procedures, processes and policies. But RIGHT THERE is where you ask that question again, "Ok, but what was the outcome and results?"
Then they hang their heads, look their shoes and say "Well, the patient died." So then HOW AND WHAT GOOD was all their science, evidence, procedures, policies and beliefs?
They don't mean shit. OUTCOME AND RESULTS ALWAYS TRUMPS CONTRIVED MANIPULATED AND INTENTIONALLY ENGINEERED "EVIDENCE". Outcome and results is the ONLY standard that matters because it REVEALS THE TRUTH about all the myths, biases and dogma about "healthcare". It's time that we have a health system that's based on Outcome and Results instead of the Big Pharma Big Medicine "contrived evidence" based regime we are suffering under. They probable won't ever let that happen so we just have to establish and practice that in our own private lives individually.
So what does all that mean and apply to you right now? It means it's time to examine ALL your assumptions and "beliefs" about nutrition and health, and it means you have to start looking for other, DIFFERENT and better sources of information and knowledge, because taking and relying on incomplete or untrue advice and information from the usual establishement sources and experts ISN'T WORKING. The more they tighten up their"standards and guidelines" the disease and death rates INCREASE and go the opposite way. That should tell you someting about the quality and veracity of all their shenanigans.
There's a lot of real solid truth, fact and science out there in the world and in my opinion and experience the best place to go to start relearning everything you think you already know is among the Low Carb High Fat, Ketogenic and Paleo Diet groups. I stumbled on those groups in 2009, soaked up and continue to learn as much as I can and used that knowledge to change my diet and what and how I was eating and lost 70 pounds over eight months WITH ABSOLUTELY ZERO EXERCISE of any kind. The people and sources I found and continue to find in my study and research have put me on a lifelong path of continuing good health, I'm still human and am not impervious to ALL disease and will someday die like everyone does, but the things I have learned have taken away all the uncertanty and anxiety I had about my health and quality of life and has given me the confidence of knowing that I am in control of my body and health and how to properly respond to any problems that may arise.
You just need to learn some new things, and it's not hard, you can do it and at least resolve some of the questions you have. So good luck and have fun, life is short, and we're not here for a long time so make sure you're having a good time in whatever you are doing.
Seems there are a number of reasons a cancer will happen. My thought is if he was exposed to a strong carcinogen and it ended up in his lung, it would have been a tough thing to cure. So unfortunate. I'm sorry for your loss. My uncle was a pretty healthy guy, however, he was exposed to asbestos and died of lung cancer.

Long before modern medicine saw the value of fasting, Moses, Buddha, Yashua (Jesus) and Muhammad advocated it.
In the U.S. Norman S. W. Walker in his book “Pure & Simple Natural Weight Control” and Elijah Muhammad in his book “How to Eat to Live” stated all of this as well but 50 years ago they were called “crazy” for advocating what we now call “intermittent fasting”, juicing and eating clean natural food.

They might have been suntanning nude or they might have been inside the underground dungeon or basement when the bomb exploded, under the bomb directly or a few km away, some evacuated the blast site, some remained.
