    One thing I've learned from this channel is the turning itself is the easy part.
    2 hours turning after 5 days making the blank.

      So true! Thank is why the cutting and gluing video is sped up 8x's and cut to a minimum. The reward is in the turning. Thanks for your apt observation,
      tommy

    I like that you show how you put everything together before you start turning. There is obviously a lot of planning beforehand, how do you come up with your designs and how do you plan them out? What you do is not only fascinating but so beautiful. As always, I love your work!

      Thank you for your kind comment. I give credit to God for the inspiration he gives me with each design. I also draw out many of my designs like this on autocad. You can find many of my plans on my home page under "Community". Thanks for watching, Tommy

    Great job. Very interesting piece! The music was wonderful. However, I would have preferred a little commentary from you on how you planned and constructed that complicated glue-up.

      Thank you for your comment. I speed the videos up to increase interest otherwise they would be several hours long so my voice would sound like the Chipmunks. Please look on my home page under "community" and you will find the plans and dimensions for the bowls. Hope this will help!

      I do both. This one is on Autocad which you can find on my home page under "Community". But in my shop, I usually sketch out visually what I am doing too. My old designing engineer background comes into play! I appreciate your watching!

    Beautiful work as always. Do you have any recommended books on segmented turnings for experienced turners, just not segmented turning?

    • @squarepegtommy7670
      @squarepegtommy7670  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, sorry. Most of my knowledge comes from lots of trial and error. I have an active wood stove in my shop for the "error". Thanks for watching!

    Another video that I missed while on vacation... It appears that the turning is usually the easy and less time-consuming part of each piece. How many projects do you have in process at any one time? I'm guessing you can't do nothing while glue is drying (other than eating cookies), and you have several glue steps in every piece. I'd guess you've got at least 3 pieces going all the time. Am I very far off?

    • @squarepegtommy7670
      @squarepegtommy7670  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are exactly right. I usually have something segmented drying, natural woods turning, and pieces waiting to spray finish. Now, for the crafts fair, I am making snowmen out of natural birch. I am hoping to take at least 100 of these little guys to the fair because they usually are the first things to sell out. PS- the snowman video was my very first video if you would like to see what they look like. As always, I really enjoy your comments! Take care, Tommy

      @@squarepegtommy7670 OK, so I did go watch your snowman video. Really cute pieces! And some of those birch chips look like snowflakes. Not too surprising that they sell-out quickly. I'm wondering how many of these are pulled out of storage and grace the shelves of Northwest homes every Christmas season. I'll bet it's quite a few! And I'm also guessing that you can do these without the calipers now. :))
