@@praisethelordgriffith8338 God I LOVE Chiquita, really wish people didn't downplay it just because it's "retro" 😩 For anyone reading this, I don't particularly listen to Rocket Punch but I really recommend giving Chiquita a listen until the end (till the last chorus cause that's my fav part)
I think experimental music is losing its shock value that it used to have. I remember the huge buzz around zimzalabim and next level. But nowadays it’s almost expected so no one really talks about it hugely anymore. It’s actually more discussed when groups release “boring” songs aka minimalistic basic type songs. so many concepts I wanna see more of like mermaids, cyberpunk, quirky but creepy (rv nails this), videogame (more specifically mmorpgs and each member would be a class like a mage or gunslinger lol) and etc like explore ur concepts it can be so fun but I feel like no group has been creative with their concept lately except red velvet and aespa tbh
I ABSOLUTELY want a DnD concept with all the weapons and magic and outifts. Members can have representative animals but no familiars? That's just straight-faced betrayal
I want to see a elegant/classy royalty concept be done in a girl group where all the girls are queens/princesses and they all have their own kingdom that they rule and it's in this like utopic/magical/mystical universe.
FACT: Wonder Girls executed the retro concept so brilliantly that the following years, many groups tried to ride the bandwagon but it just didn't feel right Also, if you want to enjoy experimental tracks - just listen to f(x) because they and Red Velvet were probably the only one who did it justice This is just a personal opinion tho
Unpopular Opinion: Sexy Concept should make a revival this year. Imagine old groups reunited for one or two songs. Hopefully with Brave Sounds whispers in the beginning. Also, Retro doesn't mean just 80's. This make it stereotypical.
I'd LOVE for sexy concepts to make a comeback but the main issue is that 90% of new groups mostly have minors and they shouldn't do it. But I hope that older groups try them, like brave girls, jiyho of twice (if she has a solo), or newly solo artist that come from disbanded groups.
i agree sm, it's understandable that most producers would find it risky bc there r tons of kpop stars that r minors rn but if there r still older groups active then i rlly wish they'd continue to push for the bolder concepts (tho even if they r adults, i dont understand y tons of fans would keep treating them as babies💀).. so i get that we rlly cant force it but i miss the sexy concepts of 2nd gen like aoa, sistar, rania, after school etcc.. the current 4th gen songs r either under/overwhelming, they all have the same vibe and it gets boring after a while..
Yeah but hopefully old groups do that for their comeback because most of the new groups members is too young, especially the maknae (there are 2007 and 2008 maknaes)
I kinda want and don't want sexy concept cause when it comes to sexy concept companies most of the time force these idols to do it rather then them being comftroable with it
i still love the retro trend and i ESPECIALLY adore the 80s synthpop sound, it's one of my favorite sounds in music overall and i go crazy every time i hear it 😭 of course i respect your take it's just making me go wow i could not agree LESS with this we are polar opposites lol. PERSONALLY i think the girl crush concept has aged poorly. not because no good music comes from it anymore, just because it's been everywhere for so long and i'm tired of it being so prevalent. i also find that the music of the girl crush concept, while often not bad, tends to sound pretty similar and that's made it turn stale in my opinion. i also just don't really care for that kind of sound tbh. i get that blackpink took the world by storm and everyone wants to be her or something, but what we really need is something different to shake up the industry. i believe this has started to shift more recently and we are seeing a bit more variety than there was, say, 2 years ago, but i still think it's an issue
Those warm 80s atmospheric synths…. those boppy synths in every single one of rick astley’s songs….. inject them into my VEINS!! 80s pop walked so citypop could run
Also hard agree that Girl Crush is a bit dead. imo it’s not even that the sound of traditional girl crush is bad, it’s that the aesthetic of it is overdone. Lapillus’ debut song SLAPS to me and I’d argue it drips in girl crush energy, but the video and outfits look like every other ‘We’re So Badass!!!!!‘ thing I’ve seen in the past year and a bit. So many of the groups we see with a girl crush look/energy pushed on them are super young too, which I don’t think helps. It’s hard to be pull off a badass b concept when you’re 15/16 years old and still haven’t had your first heartbreak, ygm?
Some 4th concepts I'd like to praise: STAYC (young city girls/fresh teen pop), IVE (pixy dream girl), ATEEZ (mysterious revolutionaries), early Weeekly (trendy school girls), IZ*ONE (preppy elegence), PIXY (dark fairy), and Billie (weird but mystical). Feel free to add more ig Edit: Dreamcatcher is a haunting concept (including Maison). Aespa is cyberspace. Also our funky queens (Weki Meki) are 3rd gen.
Honestly, I strongly disagree on the retro, I still love retro concepts. However, I do agree with you for the most part on the other two, though I personally like one or two bgs' "noise" music.
I'm just tired of 'experimental' these days cause that stuff isn't experimental anymore, it's literally a competition of making worse version of similar kind of concept to draw public attention. While the ones aespa did were still kind of something but later the wannabe ones are just bad. completely agree with your opinion on this.
As long as it is SM, I usually like their experimental music on their groups...when other companies do it I feel like it is a kind of hit or miss. SM finds some way to make me like it at first listen
I feel like they've gotten boring by sticking to only one thing 😭 I looooved their "experimental" tracks like Love Bomb and Fun so the past two tracks have been... Same-ish? Which is a shame because they're wonderful and I miss when they changed things even if just a little bit
Same honestly. They have matured(like twice) with their music while still sticking to their own sound. Stay this way is the perfect mix of talk&talk with we go. DM is their best song and comeback and from our momento box their best album yet. They never followed trends but stayed real to their sounds. That's why they are my ults with twice
@@luvchaerry honestly disagree 😬 like twice, they have also matured with time and are making music with more thought to it and more maturity while still sticking to their Sound. Idk if you listened to their new album but you would be blown away. I liked fun and love bomb but I never loved them. I love talk&talk, dm, stay this way, we go. A song that's not experimental doesn't have to be boring. Not only experimental songs are fun you know? I also love these gorgeous or funny mvs like talk&talk and DM. Fromis_9 evolved and yes their mvs changed but their sound is still them. Their recent music doesn't seem to be your cup of tea anymore. Which is OK ofc. Twice also doesn't do quirky or fun mvs like signal or likey. We miss it yet but they still have their sound. I don't get why we need to call their music boring currently. Same thing with rv, calling their recent stuff boring isn't cute honestly. Nobody appreciates that. They work hard and try to do new stuff while still keeping their sound but people still aren't satisfied. They either have to do that or change their whole image and get rid of their original sound and try like something completely different like rock or girl crush. Their fans love them and stan them for their sound. They can't make a love bomb 2.0. Rv can't make a psycho 2.0 nor can twice do a signal 2.0. There is always a concept and mv we love the most by a group but expecting the same thing even after 3 years is a bit weird. You guys put so much pressure on them. Russian roulette is my fav concept ever but I never said I want something like that again. They are versatile groups, they will have different songs and mvs.
I see so many people saying dm was boring, it really wasn’t😭😭😭 you just gotta be able to appreciate different aspects to a song to like it. The vocals and the way they portrayed the song was actually very beautiful. The composition of it was pure gold and i don’t think its gotten enough credit.
love misfit and 90's love retro NCT also champions the experimental and noisy tracks, although they technically 3rd gen group as a whole (despite having subunit and many members that debuted as 4th gen) and literally debuted with noisy and experimental sounds and getting hate for it
I don’t really think none of these concepts aged badly. Ik most ppl didn’t like the retro concepts but everything else is completely according to your taste.
I don’t think the concepts aged badly so much as producers didn’t create good music around those concepts. They either ran out of ideas or the producers themselves were unable to do more than try to copy.
i will literally never get bored of eighties style retro synth pop lmao i would be fine if every group released songs with that concept forever it’s my fave haha
omg you should watch pixy, their debut its a experimental song, but the sounds match so well with the concept of fantasy and darkness, btw they made recently a cb 'villain' the full album is such a masterpiece
I have had PIXY's new album on straight repeat since it came out. It's so delicious. Too many people sleeping on this group! They are amazing and their company is really treating them well.
The only experimental songs I can digest is ones from SM lol. And I think I liked aespa’s experimental eventho it took me a few listens is because it suits their concept so much since they intergrated metaverse…something futuristic
nowadays, i think "experimental" is all the same style of music- loud and odd. before, there used to be sub-genres within the experimental concept, but now it feels like they use the same sounds and instrumentals, tweak them to match their concept and release, making it seem like a never-tried-before concept.
I belive the only people who are doing experimental right are SM groups. Aespa, NCT, Redvelvet and others are littlery the only ones who can pull it off
@@dncm5405 agreed. Since they basically introduced experimental sound in the industry, other companies have been trying to use the same formula but they mostly completely miss. It's not like every experimental SM track is "good", but they are consistent and committed.
@@myraclesname Wait, they introduced experimental sound in the industry? I might agree a bit more if you mean within the Kpop industry, maybe. Cause Experimental music has been a thing for years and years, all the way back to the 1900s or even slightly earlier. Experimental in Korean music has actually been there even before Kpop was constructed (Kpop is basically heavily influenced from Western music and brought it over to Korea to incorporate in the country) and became a business of its own. I think a lot you Kpop fans have no idea what experimental music really is or even sounds. It's actually hard to describe what experimental music is or even sounds. And that's the point, nontraditional, no structure, aren't consistent, and so forth.
@@marleymarss consistent in the form of going against mainstream structures is what I meant. And I'm well aware that experimental Korean music has existed way before kpop but that was not my point. SM didn't invent the sound, but they certainly introduced and popularized it within kpop.
Aespa debuted with a safe song and then they used the experimental/cyber/sci-fi concept. Groups like Lapillus and NMIXX started with an bad experimental song and now we expectedly what they must release
I think experimental music should be used only by SM because they do it perfectly but the other label can't do it, it's horribly done ! They should do their things.
Experimental now days its literally choosing 3 different beats and put everything in one song with out any smooth transition, because at least in Next Level the transitions were smooth, now after listen a lot of times the bridge is the only part that REALLY dont match. Experimental songs done right: Hot Sauce, RBB, Zimzalabim, i got a boy, F(x), Next level, obsession, some other NCT song that im not remembering. That was not on purpose but it looks like only SM can do experimental right
Loona's why not as well is also one of the best experimental song in kpop and the fact that Lee sooman participated in the whole album (12:00 is what the album is called) making process which includes the TT. He participated in both of loona's 2020 comeback title tracks and albums. So, yes I do agree, SM entertainment are the best at making experimental music.
For me it’s when groups start cloning music. I will alway give any sound a chance and if it makes me feel something and get stuck in my head I’ll support it. But what really ruins the good vibes of a genre is when people start cloning songs that did well. Everything starts sound the same and nothing stands out
I can proudly say that I looove experimental music. I'm surprised that you didn't mention NCT in noise or experimental categories. In my opinion NCT and Aespa are the kings and queens of experimental music. And with NCT it's so cool that every single title track is very different from eachother so their music doesn't repeat itself. And what it comes to retro music, I freaking loved Key's Bad Love album. It's still one of my favorite albums ever! And A-ha! - Take On Me is a masterpiece that never gets old! 😁
I think you mixed up concepts with genres. Concept is not really about the song itself, but rather the aesthetic accompanying the comeback. Edit: With retro, it can be a concept with a song also having a retro sound. But noise??? It has nothing to do with the concept. Same with experimental
@@kpop_mode_on @i trust jimin They can be intertwined, sure, like retro concept as I said before or a summer concept, where you expect a certain aesthetic AND a certain sound. Elegant and sexy, too, to an extent. With girl crush and teen crush you can also expect some characteristics to be present in a song itself. But when you have a cheerleader/school/zombie and what not, it always refers to a music video and styling. But he only talked about the music and 2/3 of his examples are words that are only applied to music and not when talking about concepts.
Tbh for me that is exactly the problem sometimes: Concept and genre should be the same, but at times it just doesn't fit. Those two should not really be different things.
Not really. If a group was described as "cute concept", you wouldn't exactly expect them to sound like Everglow or Dreamcatcher. Concept encompasses aesthetic and musicality.
I have to disagree on retro, it's not that it has aged badly, all those songs are good to listen, it's the fact that, as you said, companies have made it stale, but still has the potential to be good with song such as Ladida, Mago, Tail (more a 90s thing but still kinda retro), Lady, I love you and Night rather than day by my sexy quirky sexy queens EXID. Now, that "Take on me" disprespect is something I will have to throw hands about 🔥
I know that people love to hate on skz for everything but their noice music is very fun and also very danceable. Like if I ever listened Miroh in a club I would have the time of my life 🤞🏻and if any of those edgy stans bothered to listen their discography they would see that skz is really diverse, from rock, to trap, to r&b and to mellow pop
I like Stray Kids (Ateez is my ult group) and agree that they have great B sides (most of my favorite Stray Kids songs are B sides). The same for Ateez-both groups have some melodically beautiful songs-not just “noise.”
I don’t tend to like “noise music” (tbh I don’t like calling it noise music) but Stray Kidz just do it like no other bg for me. I’ll be screaming my lungs out to back door every time I hear it. Idk what it is they put in their music but I would love to season a boiled potato with it.
I will defend memeM until my dying day. It’s not even that experimental it’s just badass 🙄 And it has a memorable melody, chant, and even point choreo Hit Ya! is just the tasteless version of memeM tbh Fight me memeM slaps
@@ellohmia right like every time I hear it it gets stuck in my head for days (in a good way) IN YOUR HEAD MEMEMEM REVERSE IT’S STILL MEMEMEM M-E-M-E-M, M-E-M-E-M, MEMEM TELL ME TELL ME, TELL ME TELL ME NOW
memem is one of the only recent “experimental” tracks ive enjoyed, at least this year. its definitely messy, but messy in the right way (and purple kiss are vocal goddesses so they totally served)
@@el972 hmm I feel it's more like a mix of experimental/futurism, girl crush and other genres etc. Black Mamba is indeed very attractive but I really feel their songs afterwards did not live up to all the anticipations... Although their fans love their songs in any way. It's kinda the same with Itzy's Dalla gaining explosive attention while the songs after just didn't sound as great for me. I'm no hater of any groups or celebrities, this is just I felt about many 4th gen groups debuting with a really great song while I didn't find their other songs attractive...
I loved the retro styles G idle and Triple H did, it was fantastic, then it became super boring, everybody was doing the same. I was never a real fan of the Noise one, I think is because I've never liked boy groups, don't know why. Experimental was one of the most boring, I usually get bored of listening those in a few days and then never again.
The problem with experimental is that SM basically pioneered it with their groups in a way that works. Red Velvet has a quirky style, EXO has a sexy funky style, NCT has a tech pop style, and aespa has the futuristic style. They're experimental but they're all different and work perfectly with each group in a way that it's not tiring but always really fun and fresh - and those groups are still given "normal" songs to work with as well. The thing is that SM does it so well and takes the time (and funds lol) to understand how to make it work for each group, but most other companies don't really seem to do that. They just go "oh experimental is popular, let's do that" and they throw it on a group without actually thinking about how it will work for the artists. O.O is the perfect example. That song is a mess and it's also just an ad for Coke. For a debut group, those girls didn't deserve to have a song like that. Yeah it made headlines, but not in a good way, and certainly not in the same way that Savage and Next Level did, which you can tell JYP was trying to replicate. Not saying that groups that aren't in SM shouldn't try it of course, but when they do it, they need to consider how the song will work with the group, and IF it will work, instead of doing it for the sake of it.
in the 3 concepts sm is the blue print, retro shinee, fx, suju. noise & experimental nct, aespa those concepts are fine, only if you know to work with them
I can't really blame people/companies for having a hard time coming up with new/fresh ideas. There are just sooooo many groups and songs out there that it gets harder and harder to wow people.
theres a big diff between experimental songs that have a strong musical foundation (i.e. savage is very clearly hyperpop inspired) and ones that are very clearly just trying to throw you off (O.O) and its the second one that sucks imo lmao
SM is probably the only company that makes good experimental music that ends up being the trend....except a few controversial SM songs like sticker even though i LOVE it
Part of the problem is that most experimental music in kpop is "experimental" in the same way. When an artist is the only one doing something I can appreciate something for it's novelty, but when I'm listening to my 20th song that's "experimental" in pretty much the exact same way it's like the song is no longer interesting enough for me to put up with mess.
what a crazy paradox the experimental genre became, its purpose was not to fall into the same thing and it happened anyway lol I think it shouldn't be called experimental or give this genre a new definition But well, I suppose that since it is now a musical genre, it has become a chain and maybe even if they dont have that intention , it will all sound the same.
Experimental should only be taken on my groups who's writing/producing team have a passion for that kind of music. It's why SM does so well with it. The Owner of the place loves that music and always has. They cultivate the type of talent that can do it. Other companies treat it like a concept to copy instead of an artistic choice, ultimately failing. Like Purple Kiss 100% can do experimental but... maybe keep some of their own sound and concept to the experiment? Such a waste of a comeback. And I'm just gunna take my 80's synth pop loving self away. It's not a joke. ;_; Those songs are legit good and not as camp ;_;
I respectfully disagree with retro. So far, none of retro songs (at least from what I hear in my playlists) aged badly. But hey i guess it's your voice and opinions
tbh noise is my favorite concept since I met kpop in 2017, specially when there's an eletronic vibes and even rythm changes. I remember when I start to stan Stray Kids and being in love with their noise songs
this!!! i think stray kids are very unique because they have 3racha, the members who participate in all of their music production. this way, they are never stuck performing songs by producers who are only trying to follow a trend or don't know how to bring out every member's individual colors. they're def a group who know what they're doing and doing it well
Lmao I was about to say noise is Ateez and SKZ's thing so I'm glad you didn't knock them - you're absolutely right though about the new age noise music it's noisy because that kind of thing worked for older artists but the difference is those older artists write their own music and don't write it to be trendy
I would like some r&b concept especially for girlgroups. (imagine something like kai or taemin on girlgroups??) But more r&b in general. But also, i have 193754728 concepts for groups planned out in my head and i still don't get why everyone puts out the same stuff everytime... just hire me as a creative director lol
Are you one of those folks who's ready to sell their soul for korean r'n'b scene? Bc girl same, i like kpop and love some of it but i literally would die for someone like dpr live you know what im sayin (Also baekhyun is rnb af but i guess there's a shortage in the industry definitely)
Either way rnb is more complicated to give to kpop groups bc it requires your own colour and character and sincerety and kpop industry is not about that life in general
My favorite genre being synthpop/wave, I'm enjoying every one of the retro comebacks released since the beginning of the trend! And I'm also not tired of the experimental concept in female groups, good for me! However I agree on the noise music. I like it, I'm a Gem, Stay and Atiny but when I'm listening to a boy group song of 2022, I can't even guess which boy group it was cause they all sound the same! (apart from TAN or Omega x for example) I hope companies realize this and try to be unique!
Retro are good if done properly, i dig synth pop sounds in chiquita, and Mago, they sound so good especially if you have studio quality speakers or headphones, the synth just resonates in your ear like crazy And i think its about time sexy concept make a comeback
The thing about RETRO is that it never ages, it's timeless, so we never get tired of it, it's always fun and enjoyable to hear and watch. I listen to Kpop retro/disco playlists and each song has its own vibe and different retro atmosphere & perspective
lmfao with juice's point of the synth pop sound reminding him on never gonna give you up, now i can't help but feel like ive been subtly rickrolled in so many songs & i haven't even noticed until juice pointed it out...
I don't mind experimental and noise done properly, it was SM's thing since forever and I've always been an SM Stan. Just the fact that nowadays every group and their mother is doing it and they're doing it badly more often than good that irritates the hell out of me. Even SM does it poorly from time to time now so I'm starting to like basic and boring concepts. Sometimes I just appreciate that I don't have some instrumental messing with my ears and that I don't have to get used to a song.
I love the retro concept but most groups just go for the 80’s pop sound. The retro concept would be better if went for another era sound. Kpop groups could do a retro concept but do 90’s grunge/rock or 70’s disco or 60’s psychedelic rock. There is a rock concept genre but it’s 2000’s punk rock (it does stem from the 90’s but isn’t real grunge) I think some groups who do retro could be more interesting if they picked another decade instead of the 80’s. I love the 80’s but I can only take so much of it before it’s too much.
LE SSERAFIM fearless is pretty good. It's unique, catchy and listenable for many time. I hope HYBE makes these kind of songs more, bcz we want to come out from the noisy and experimental music era.
'noise' music is so common now in new bg that have just debuted and it's getting kinda annoying and people are most likely loosing interest in new groups because of the noisy music
first entry in and I get why 3 people already disliked this video 💀 edit: but i do agree with what you say, most of it got very similar to each other, only a few have been standing out lately
i cant wait fro Billlie's comeback cause they're (in my opinion) experimental in a good way also with their possible city pop genre its very intriquing
The problem with these concepts is not the concepts themselves, but groups doing it for the sake of doing it. If you're going to hop on a trend set by someone else at least copy it well or add your own twist to it.
noise music: I still love it so much. With a little bit of tweaking here and there + add a lil bit of experimental shoosh to it. That type song get you so pumped up and hyped!!! Secret Number - Doomchita is one of the example (loud music done right)
really curious what SM has done with aespa for GIRLS after so many groups debuted with "experimental" music following Next Level and Savage's success. I mean, Life's Too Short was already a left turn.
personally a group that does 'experimental' well for me is NCT. Even if the song is bad, at least it is something unique for example 'sticker' by 127. Though the song is bizarre it is catchy and very different from everything that came before it. As a fan of experimental or just weird music, these new debut releases of this genre are not exciting or sound the same as said in the video. Can companies find better or different concept to use instead of making shitty experimental. This has worked for NCT, stray kids, dreamcatcher etc.. I become a kpop stan in early 2020 and I personally think that was the best year for kpop along with early 2021. By the end of 2021, I listened to no comebacks and completely disconnected from kpop. Im so glad that the few good kpop releases this year have somehow gotten me back into kpop, but honestly it is pretty disappointing as I used to have so much fun listening to new groups as that was what made me a multi, but nowadays I only have a handful of groups to listen to but even now some of their releases ain't good. Ive found that 'self producing' groups like stray kids and seventeen have resisted the ultimate decline of quality in kpop so I mostly think these are the faults of companies and it is sad to see new and old groups fail or succeed at the hand of having bad music
Experimental should've never become a trend in my opinion. It feels like nowadays companies can put like 3 scrapped songs together, make a complete nonsense and put it out and fans will eat it up cause it's "unique" and special, but it barely even passes as a song. Not to mention, they don't even try to make it make sense lyric wise, it's just bunch of random sentences together. And now when other groups release normal music that isn't experimental or noise, they get called boring and underwhelming (example: fearless) although that is what normal music sounds like. Gotta say, Aespa does the experimental music good, but they do have a consistent chorus, understandable lyrics and overall their concept fits it.
I agree about the 'experimental' music made by 4th generation groups. I must say, I've never been a fan of that genre, so I hope this tendency will end soon, or at least that there will be more variety. Lately I've only been listening to old kpop groups because the latest releases have all been 'experimental'.
Is it experimental anymore if they're trying the same experiments? Like yeah, exactlllly. It's not experimental, they're trying a style that exists and used to be experimental yet they try to make them weirder and it just results in a bad song.
i definitely agree with everything you said in this video, the concepts were good until they became overused and nothing was unique about any of them anymore

Also, if you want to enjoy experimental tracks - just listen to f(x) because they and Red Velvet were probably the only one who did it justice
This is just a personal opinion tho
Unpopular Opinion:
Sexy Concept should make a revival this year.
Honestly, I miss the sexy songs in kpop, but because now all the companies love to debut kids, we might not get that for a long time.
Yessss to everything you said haha
Agreed
The Even of Day Right Through Me album!
Some 4th concepts I'd like to praise: STAYC (young city girls/fresh teen pop), IVE (pixy dream girl), ATEEZ (mysterious revolutionaries), early Weeekly (trendy school girls), IZ*ONE (preppy elegence), PIXY (dark fairy), and Billie (weird but mystical). Feel free to add more ig
Edit: Dreamcatcher is a haunting concept (including Maison). Aespa is cyberspace. Also our funky queens (Weki Meki) are 3rd gen.
aespa futuristic metaverse lore
I agree with all of these, and I’d like to highlight Dreamcatcher and their horror concept (though they’ve started branching out some with Maison)
Dreamcatcher as well, honestly that company with concepts is great...
IVE is more of a dreamy yet elegant girl group with class
a friend of mine described ive’s concept as dark high-teen and honestly i think it fits really well
Honestly, I strongly disagree on the retro, I still love retro concepts. However, I do agree with you for the most part on the other two, though I personally like one or two bgs' "noise" music.
I'm just tired of 'experimental' these days cause that stuff isn't experimental anymore, it's literally a competition of making worse version of similar kind of concept to draw public attention. While the ones aespa did were still kind of something but later the wannabe ones are just bad. completely agree with your opinion on this.
this! 😭😭
As long as it is SM, I usually like their experimental music on their groups...when other companies do it I feel like it is a kind of hit or miss. SM finds some way to make me like it at first listen
I just appreciate Fromis_9 for sticking to their sound and not experimenting music.
@@luvchaerry fr!! dm and stay this way(?) was so boring, sorry not sorry 💀 and ur right, we need love bomb and fun back
I see so many people saying dm was boring, it really wasn’t😭😭😭 you just gotta be able to appreciate different aspects to a song to like it. The vocals and the way they portrayed the song was actually very beautiful. The composition of it was pure gold and i don’t think its gotten enough credit.
i wasn't super into retro but bad love by key is by far the best retro song. followed by 90s love/misfit by NCT U
90s love and misfit>>>> some of their BEST songs
love misfit and 90's love retro
NCT also champions the experimental and noisy tracks, although they technically 3rd gen group as a whole (despite having subunit and many members that debuted as 4th gen) and literally debuted with noisy and experimental sounds and getting hate for it
I don’t really think none of these concepts aged badly. Ik most ppl didn’t like the retro concepts but everything else is completely according to your taste.
i mean,, he did say it was according to his opinion 🧍♀️
@@bubblsodao3o ik
I don’t think the concepts aged badly so much as producers didn’t create good music around those concepts. They either ran out of ideas or the producers themselves were unable to do more than try to copy.
Yes of course its acording to their personal taste
It is a commentary channel 💀
i will literally never get bored of eighties style retro synth pop lmao i would be fine if every group released songs with that concept forever it’s my fave haha
omg you should watch pixy, their debut its a experimental song, but the sounds match so well with the concept of fantasy and darkness, btw they made recently a cb 'villain' the full album is such a masterpiece
I have had PIXY's new album on straight repeat since it came out. It's so delicious. Too many people sleeping on this group! They are amazing and their company is really treating them well.
villain & swan song are soo good i’ve had those songs on repeat since it came out
this album is everything
I feel like experimental/noisy songs are tricky to pull off because it’s two genres that majority of the kpop fandom has grown to dislike a LOT
y’all follow a couple people on kpop twitter/tiktok and think that’s the majority of the kpop fandom 💀

The only experimental songs I can digest is ones from SM lol. And I think I liked aespa’s experimental eventho it took me a few listens is because it suits their concept so much since they intergrated metaverse…something futuristic
Everyone doesn't like noisy, but I love it and it's the only type of kpop my classmate would listen to.
I love it too but I’m picky about it. If there is only “noise” and nothing happening melodically I probably won’t add it to the playlist.
Well you keep their lights on for us pls 😭👌🏾
Yup i love beats in stray kidz songs
Kpop is noisy people are reaching when they hate a concept that was popular since the 2nd gen 🤣
@@kimdaniel2601 yeah fr it’s gotta be melodic noise
nowadays, i think "experimental" is all the same style of music- loud and odd. before, there used to be sub-genres within the experimental concept, but now it feels like they use the same sounds and instrumentals, tweak them to match their concept and release, making it seem like a never-tried-before concept.
@@marleymarss and me being a kpop fan has nothing to do with my knowledge of music and art. I think you might've misinterpreted my comment.
debuting with an experimental song will always be the worst choice ever.... can we bring back fun concepts for ggs?
Agreed imo I feel like experimental songs goes very well with Aespa and their concept
Not really it still depends on the structure of the songs. Lot of SM groups debuted with experimental songs.
Nah Aespa have established themselves as an experimental group, it's not doomed for failure. But yes other groups should try to be more unique.
Aespa debuted with a safe song and then they used the experimental/cyber/sci-fi concept. Groups like Lapillus and NMIXX started with an bad experimental song and now we expectedly what they must release
What about Billlie
I think experimental music should be used only by SM because they do it perfectly but the other label can't do it, it's horribly done ! They should do their things.
Good experimental kpop music: NCT
7th sense and sticker are bops
Everything starts sound the same and nothing stands out
Nobody can make music like NCT cause noise was invented by them and just for them
To me, there can only one group that suitable for retro concept and that's...Wonder Girls.
Dreamcatchers together 😩😆
Omg yes Wonder Girls the og 😭 Their songs literally still sound fresh to this day and I’d actually listen to it over other kpop retro songs
Nobody (both Korean and English) is still one of the best retro songs of K-Pop even after14 years 💅💅✨
Nobody is the pioneer of succesful retro song
I'd say T-ARA does really good retro concepts as well!
I dunno bro to me every concept has good and bad songs that doesnt change
i see chanty, i click
Same with experimental
concept is both the mv and song
@@maddyrevenge I did say some can be intertwined. And as you said, in those cases it encompasses BOTH. Not just music.
Now, that "Take on me" disprespect is something I will have to throw hands about 🔥
Agree!! Take On Me was one of my favorite songs growing up and I wasn't even born when it came out.

F(X)'s Experimental genre's songs honestly suited my taste the most while only Aespa's debut song caught my attention...
Fx is indeed the sunbae for aespa experimental song
@@akuhappy3246 I really liked Fx a lot just that SM is real shitty at managing their groups as per usual.
Black mamba is very girl crush if you ask me

@@minjilover black mamba is not experimental in any way
I loved the retro styles G idle and Triple H did, it was fantastic, then it became super boring, everybody was doing the same.
I was never a real fan of the Noise one, I think is because I've never liked boy groups, don't know why.
Experimental was one of the most boring, I usually get bored of listening those in a few days and then never again.
STOP I love noise/experimental music 😭😭
Not saying that groups that aren't in SM shouldn't try it of course, but when they do it, they need to consider how the song will work with the group, and IF it will work, instead of doing it for the sake of it.
in the 3 concepts sm is the blue print, retro shinee, fx, suju. noise & experimental nct, aespa
those concepts are fine, only if you know to work with them
I can't really blame people/companies for having a hard time coming up with new/fresh ideas.
SM is probably the only company that makes good experimental music that ends up being the trend....except a few controversial SM songs like sticker even though i LOVE it
retro is still fun...
I want a concept like loonatic by odd eye circle its just so unique and never been used before
Part of the problem is that most experimental music in kpop is "experimental" in the same way. When an artist is the only one doing something I can appreciate something for it's novelty, but when I'm listening to my 20th song that's "experimental" in pretty much the exact same way it's like the song is no longer interesting enough for me to put up with mess.
what a crazy paradox the experimental genre became, its purpose was not to fall into the same thing and it happened anyway lol
I think it shouldn't be called experimental or give this genre a new definition
But well, I suppose that since it is now a musical genre, it has become a chain and maybe even if they dont have that intention , it will all sound the same.
i’m definitely getting tired of the girl crush/badass concepts i rly hope to see some sexy and cute concepts come back😋
Experimental should only be taken on my groups who's writing/producing team have a passion for that kind of music. It's why SM does so well with it. The Owner of the place loves that music and always has. They cultivate the type of talent that can do it.
Other companies treat it like a concept to copy instead of an artistic choice, ultimately failing.
Like Purple Kiss 100% can do experimental but... maybe keep some of their own sound and concept to the experiment? Such a waste of a comeback.
And I'm just gunna take my 80's synth pop loving self away. It's not a joke. ;_; Those songs are legit good and not as camp ;_;
experimental literally cant get old cause all the songs sound different but theyre also all either hit or miss since they are... experimental
I liked Memem their vocals were amazing
unlike savage last chorus the vocals are too high pitch for me personally
I would like some r&b concept especially for girlgroups. (imagine something like kai or taemin on girlgroups??) But more r&b in general. But also, i have 193754728 concepts for groups planned out in my head and i still don't get why everyone puts out the same stuff everytime... just hire me as a creative director lol
Are you one of those folks who's ready to sell their soul for korean r'n'b scene? Bc girl same, i like kpop and love some of it but i literally would die for someone like dpr live you know what im sayin
(Also baekhyun is rnb af but i guess there's a shortage in the industry definitely)
Either way rnb is more complicated to give to kpop groups bc it requires your own colour and character and sincerety and kpop industry is not about that life in general
absolutely love noise music and experimental music, especially when they are together
I’m honestly so sick of the retro concept but the songs themselves are usually *so good* that I’ll end up listening to them anyways 🤣
retro done good is amazing, but average retro songs kinda all just blend into one
I don't think Retro aged badly because this genre does die down and return again to popularity every other few years and constantly evolving~
Retro are good if done properly, i dig synth pop sounds in chiquita, and Mago, they sound so good especially if you have studio quality speakers or headphones, the synth just resonates in your ear like crazy
And i think its about time sexy concept make a comeback
The thing about RETRO is that it never ages, it's timeless, so we never get tired of it, it's always fun and enjoyable to hear and watch. I listen to Kpop retro/disco playlists and each song has its own vibe and different retro atmosphere & perspective
lmfao with juice's point of the synth pop sound reminding him on never gonna give you up, now i can't help but feel like ive been subtly rickrolled in so many songs & i haven't even noticed until juice pointed it out...
😂😂
what we need: medieval concept
Bro, retro and noise type of music is my fav, literally noise part of pop keept me here. I also very much enjoy experimental music.
Retro still works and I still love it a lot.
Let's be real, we can find a good experimental concept from a smaller company here and there but SM owns it
"Noisy Music" = Good music. PERIOD
Experimental is SM's THING tho... they have been doing this since 2nd Gen and are the best at it
I don't mind experimental and noise done properly, it was SM's thing since forever and I've always been an SM Stan.
I hope HYBE makes these kind of songs more, bcz we want to come out from the noisy and experimental music era.
experimental and noise music won't age if it's made by sm.
after watching, i completely agree with your point on experimental and noise music but not on retro lol
the only experimental songs i’ve liked are from billlie and aespa along with step back by GOT
i absolutely love O.O and Hit Ya, don't tell me im the only one 😭💔
'noise' music is so common now in new bg that have just debuted and it's getting kinda annoying and people are most likely loosing interest in new groups because of the noisy music
first entry in and I get why 3 people already disliked this video 💀
edit: but i do agree with what you say, most of it got very similar to each other, only a few have been standing out lately
i cant wait fro Billlie's comeback cause they're (in my opinion) experimental in a good way
also with their possible city pop genre its very intriquing
Sure the 80s retro sound is tired now but I really want a 90s revival similar to gfriend's earlier work and loona 1/3's music.
Bruh all of the experimental choruses showcased in the beginning of the experimental section sounded the same...
The problem with these concepts is not the concepts themselves, but groups doing it for the sake of doing it. If you're going to hop on a trend set by someone else at least copy it well or add your own twist to it.
pixy- villain
Personally the only experimental track I like is Love Cherry Motion.
noise music: I still love it so much.
Omg definitely same thought. But im sure aespa gonna release something outstanding as usual
SM has producers that are actually good so I really trust them.
The teaser for girls is good
I normally don’t get tried of many concepts so-
personally a group that does 'experimental' well for me is NCT.
You literally named the ones I love
Retro eats, do not put my girl La Di Da there. They absolutely ate that shit up.
Noise was fun then the newer ones just sound the same like it's 4 or 5 rap verses then a sub-par drop and a random dance break
But you by iKON was one of my favourite retro songs, I love that song so much
I wish some group could bring back retro concepts like Mr. Ambiguous by Mamamoo, Semina by Gugudan Semina or Headlock by Ailee
to be honest, retro kpop songs are my lil guilty pleasure… all the songs are so vibey i love them sm
Is it experimental anymore if they're trying the same experiments? Like yeah, exactlllly. It's not experimental, they're trying a style that exists and used to be experimental yet they try to make them weirder and it just results in a bad song.
mago, blue hour, and la di da are litrally good songs let's not lie..
i definitely agree with everything you said in this video, the concepts were good until they became overused and nothing was unique about any of them anymore
