Yea, it's looking like the moment that you let the Gorilla Boiis pick a fight, it's over. You really have to make them play on the defensive as much as possible in order to keep them from maneuvering into the little kill zones they make
Yeah spread out skirmish them down use cav to disrupt etc! But its still too tuff, Hyena is a very good veteran player and bubbini has one of the best tactics in TW rome!
It’s a lot easier said than done, but you’re right. Maybe they should go for a massive Sally on defense, because they’re just not beating the GBs at their own game.
@mack626 Of course, I'm not at all trying to say that I could do it first try, just offering what seems to be the counter. The GBs are incredibly good at positioning and pinning units in order to use javies. The only solution I see for that would be to force as many of them into a fight as possible.
@@BengalW If GB on defense, attacker team must bring two ballistae; every hit counts a lot. GB usually defends with a small number of relatively expensive troops. Defending from GB -> horse faction sally out for specialists like Ruvak gives more chances. Otherwise, Gorilla Bois are a fantastic team; teamplay is like that of famous tennis pairs. Pure domination.

If they had used the siege towers at the end they could’ve got a great flank! Great fight nevertheless
I agree, dont know if they could win but that would be a nice move, I notice that players keep a lot of troops to maintain the troops in the sally outs in check, Gorilla bois take advantage of this and chew the inf with their tactics.

Honestly you should use the Rome I music mod when covering these matches. It’d make it 10x more engaging! :)

You got me so hooked Back on Rome II :) nice commentary and sooo glad you can loose as well and still get suprised :D although i would enjoy seeing you win of course! Big congrats to all Teams so far, super high Level and only distinctions on the extra Details. I wouldnt stand a Chance with any faction against anybody in group C :D
Honestly great video! Keep it up hope you're doing good. The gorilla boiis are like Real Madrid at some point it just gets a bit boring but I am loving this format. Greats from Germany
The attackers could have won that battle, the left side of the settlement at one point only had 2 units if they had sent 1 or 2 Units up the tower to flank them they could have broken through before the defenders sent forward more units
If they acturally try to bliz at around 19:40, they have to take full sword-side-shot by 6 archer shot at least, the risk could be very high, and that moment attacker are busy pursuing my cav general
The amount of micromanaging involved by Gorilla Boiis is crazy, they really have made harassing troops with missiles before retreating an art form. That coupled with constant feints on the flanks gives their opponents not a moment of peace. It is frustrating to watch though. It's also interesting to see how rather than blob up and get stuck in, these battles are becoming more like chess - troops waiting for the briefest sign of an opening or weakness, then pepper the enemy, flank, charge, retreat etc. The matches look much more tactical but the insane amount of missile/javelin fire involved sort of make it feel cheapy too. It's more like watching Zulu than the opening of Gladiator.
Gorilla Boiis are like the side with 6 units defending including 2 units being mobs going against a stacked attacking side and still yet find a way to win.
Good thing I already have my snacks and drinks ready!

Makes no sense for the Gorilla Boys to play two matches on the same settlement, twice…
I feel like this tournament could use a better structure next year.

Every one plays a settlement twice( for two matches), so its equal! Point here is you can play max 2 matches in one week and it happens that this map is the one for this week!

The Gorrila Boys had four battles on the first settlement and will have four battles on this settlement… it makes no sense.
This would be match 3 with presumably a 4th against wolf gang on the same settlement just because it falls within a certain week is silly. Not balanced.

So yeah gorrilla boiis played 2 matches on the same map twice and two weeks back to back! Its unfair though!
It looks like the only two ways to beat the gorilla boys are to either rush their front lines all at once going through every gap, or to play with cavalry so that they can't do their little skirmish. The skirmish is their biggest strength, so the only way to win is to deal with it. And even then they're good at other maneuvres, so it's gonna be hard. Credit to them for playing so well!
yooo nice timing man, I just finished a TW: R2 game with a bunch of friends, and now we will enjoy this video together.
Edit: Disasters battle, IDK why no one pushes on Especially when the Gorilla boys are in Defence, you gotta keep pushing them not give them openings and that siege towers move killed my soul they brought 12 siege towers and used none, Idk man it was a possible victory they brought 2 good factions and didn't use them properly.
the worst thing you can do is when you have the advantage and you hold back just like the Austrians against Napoleon in the Italian Campaign they had the numbers and the better gear but kept holding back and maneuvering useless maneuvers and which caused them to lose the campaign against him.
Agree, seems like the played are afraid of Gorilla bois sally out's (i understand why, these guys are pretty good) but like you say, they hold back and GB take advantage of this and chew the inf with javelins, when the reinforcements arrive is just too late.
@@christianvalencia4489 bro the siege towers move killed me, just imagine if 2 towers from the left flank were moved in place after the first engagement and they loaded 2 units up there just 2 no more that would've flanked the GB so hard it would put stress on them pulling back atleast 2 units to counter leaving them sandwiched in between and that's when they can clear the left flank with their numbers and continue advancing, sure the Sally out is scary but once your entire army is in the walls these units will be useless as they will come to you making them tired, sorry for the long replay man I hope you understand me

Today was just one of those days I had a Dr appointment and I have to get a hip replacement all stemming back to a infection of hip and sepsis of blood. Which sucks thought I'll be able to walk after it's done and I'm only 30 so I think I'll be fine and heal good, after something sad always good to come home and watch some pixelated Apollo. Cheers me right up 🎉

@Apollo do you think some archers and slingers are better via having sheilds? Idk how the game considers them (do their shields still block while theyre firing?) But it seems like skirm v skirm hvjjg a shield would be a huge advantage.
@Apollo i feel like its better when attacking to try and hit multiple points, rather than group for one area like seems to happen on this map. Your thoughts? Would love to hear your opinion, do you think its better to hit as many points as possible and spread out the deffenders, or concentrate on one area?
As an aside i also think its better when sending skirmishers in to melee to have them join in to a fight with other units, and not have them 1v1, would love to hear what you think about these things.

I don't have a LOT of experience with playing rome 2, however i played the older TW games and have watched a lot of gameplay. Is there a reason no one ever actually uses their towers? In this game, i feel like it would have been beneficial so that they didn't get stuck in that choke point...just an observation.

You can't ignore an enemy force outside the walls harassing man come on it's the 1st thing you deal with. You could leave a few bits of siege equipment on the far sides of your army so if you do have to crush or chase them away with a significant force you can potentially turn it into an opportunity. X

can someone explain why gorilla boiis got to play the same map 2x??? seems a bit off
Its the format, since we had to expand the league last second to 25 teams in stead of 20. It seemed more logical to repeat some maps than put new ones in all of a sudden out of nowhere. Its not the usual thing, it was only done as an emergency system to get more people involved.

Man I don’t know how you don’t know this after all these years. Normal units with only 3 javelins fire only at the closest unit and you can’t direct where the fire goes. Thureos spears and similar units which have 5 javelins can direct their fire. Proper Javelin/peltast units have 7 shots, which is 2 more than Thureos, not 1 like you keep saying and can also direct their fire.

honestly, as much as i like how this game looks most of the time, the battle animations are so painfull to watch it ruins any immersion/sadisfaction i get from the visuals.
