  • This video shows how to diagnose and how to replace the blend door actuators on a 2003 Buick Century. This car has the duel manual temperature control which allows you to adjust temperatures on the driver and passenger side separately. There are two levers. If you have one or two bad blend-door actuators, the problem you will have is when you may want to have AC, one side may blow hot air and the other cold; or, when you want warm air, one side may blow cold air and the other warm. Or, both sides may be stuck only on warm or only on cold. This video will show you how to locate and replace BOTH actuators.

    Great video. I had this problem where my 2003 Buick Century’s passenger-side A/C would just randomly switch over to heat from A/C for no reason and I could have only assumed it was due to the actuator. With the help of your video, I was able to take out my old actuator…only to find out the new one I got from Rock Auto was defective and didn’t move once I had it installed. I ended up just putting the old one back in. 😅 Thank you for the helpful video, though!

    You sure got lucky! I followed your video... plugging in the actuator before mounting it. I had to purchase a new actuator because I ruined the calibration beyond recovery (even with a scan tool) on the first replacement actuator. The second one, I mounted before plugging in, then ran a calibration using scan tool... Good to go. Glad I got good deals on the actuators. BTW, AutoZone will price match a product if it is the same and has same warranty. Got an actuator for $19.45 that they wanted $139.98 for.

    You definitely have to know which way the door opens and closes, where the old one is positioned, and put the new one in that same position. It's definitely tricky, but glad you eventually got it. Hopefully it saved you some money instead of paying someone a bunch of cash to say they need to rip your whole dash out and then they don't, but charge you a $1000 anyway. Thanks for the comment and clarification.

    Yes, you're right, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't an electrical problem before putting it back together. You definitely have to make sure the knob on the blend door fits into the actuator. Thanks

    My issue with my 2003 is that the AC comes out freezing and then the drivers side begins to get warm...there was a freon leak that was fixed but same problem when I drive for about 20 min. This is AZ so not an option not to have. Do you think it is the actuator

  • @peterpisacrita9690

    Actuators both working. Fixed break in vacuum line but still warm on driver side cold on passenger

    • @chuckles2993
      @chuckles2993  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what to tell you, when I messed with mine, I was able to turn the knobs with pliers to open/close the doors, and when that worked, I could get warm or cold air on either side. After that
      I put actuators in. If those doors are definitely open and closing a 100%, then it's probably some other problem (maybe left side not open/close all the way and blocked by something, sorry, can't help you more. If for some reason the driver side vent became disconnected, maybe that could be a problem.
      I F thats the case, then driver side may not get real hot because it would be leaking air somewhere. Maybe compare left and right and see if both get equally hot-since hot works on both sides. Good luck

      @@chuckles2993 After taking the the controller out and part of the dash, i took the car to a garage and the did a pressure test and said i was low on Freon. i added Freon, but I guess not enough.. they drained the system and refilled. 60 degrees now and I'm cold. lol. $180 but its worth it to not have to sweat in this 90 degree 85% humidity. Thanks Chuck

    What would cause both to quit all at once

    • @chuckles2993
      @chuckles2993  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I would guess, maybe one was stuck open and the other one was stuck closed. If you think about it, what gives you heat or cool air is if the door is open or closed. This would have a direct impact on whether you wanted to heat the car or cool it. That is sometimes why one side seems to work in the other wouldn't. Again, it's just a guess. Good luck

    What actuator is under the dash that if it goes bad it makes your car tick

    • @chuckles2993
      @chuckles2993  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is there ticking when you adjust the heat/cool setting? If so, the vent door may be stuck, and the plastic gear is stripped or stripping when trying to open or close. IF this is the case, you should be able to take off the actuator, then turn the knob manually, carefully by hand or pliers and unstick it, don't use too much force though. Hope that helps!

    I see my still moving but no cold air coming out when i turn the ac on but it is cold on passenger side.

    • @chuckles2993
      @chuckles2993  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understand you, you see the actuator gear turning on the driver side. I'm assuming the actuator is still in. If so, maybe the door is stuck and the plastic gears are stripped. IF this is your situation, take out actuator, turn metal knob that actuator gears go on to, and turn with fingers, if won't move in either direction, use pliers, and gently go in either direction to see if moves from open to closed or vise versa. From what I learned, the door gets stuck, then the plastic gears strip in the actuator. Hope this helps, good luck!
