THANK YOU. CALIBRATION WAS MY DOWNFALL BEFORE!
12 months ago I changed the passenger side BDA. TWICE. FAILED TWICE. I failed twice! How could that be??? I followed everyone’s advice. Having given up temporarily trying to figure it out, we drove through the winter clicking with heat on just one side. Spring arrived and the driver’s side joined the chorus. Now we have two abominable clickers. It’s when I came to your video that I first heard
-Disconnect the battery and turn the key to on for 5 minutes to drain power in the system.
THEN GO TO WORK.
AND
When installation is complete
STOP - CALIBRATE FIRST.
Connect the battery turn the key to on and let it calibrate for 5 minutes, then turn the key off. NOW AND ONLY NOW IS IT OKAY TO START THE ENGINE.
Yes the left side is a bear to do! BUT after calibration the sweetest sound after a full year is SILENCE and all is operational!
CALIBRATION!!!!!
Thank you WhoJoeDaddy
Great Job and thanks for the update. Glad the video helped.
I was able to change this same actuator. I see more why no pictures of the removal or install it’s all done by feel. Thanks so much!! My clicking noise is stopped and all my vent locations are working. This was the only video that popped up for the drivers side. Never could have done without your help. The restarting and calibration information was so critical. Thanks again.
Your totally welcome. This is what’s awesome about TH-cam, helping each other out. Glad it helped.
Okay so once you replace this part, your fans and heat and a/c work? Or have you to change the coolant?
Thankyou my guy this video kicked ass and i cant wait to repair my vehicle 🎉
Good luck and don’t skip the calibration. You’ll be click free in no time!
Thank you so much for this video. I have the opportunity to get an Impala cheap because the actuator on the drivers side is out..
Great deal and an easy fix, that’s awesome.
Thank you..mine was left of glove box..could not have done it or known how to do it without this video❤
That’s why I make them, always glad to hear when they help!
This job SUUCKS! Doing it now. Thanks for a great video!!
Lol, I fill ya! I had a pool of sweat on my floor mat from trying to bend in a way to see and get my hands in there.
I need an extra elbow. I got the part out. Tomorrow will be the installation....and more beer.
you are the best....my local dealership would of charged me 1000 to fix this
Glad you found it helpful and saved some 💰 money!
Yup! I got quoted $1200 for mine
Thanks for the video it was very informative and helpful, just a question, after I change the 2 actuators from the passenger side I started feeling a bad smell coming into the cabin even if the A/C is off, any suggestions on what is causing the smell and how to fix it? Thanks
Thank you! Next time I will know how to do this. 😊
What position should the HVAC controls be in during calibration & TY great video 😎
Good stuff my man
👍
Hi. I actually changed the actuator on the passenger side last year as it was making that really loud noise exactly what you had on your video and it did fix the noise...though I've never done any calibration after changing the actuator. however, I noticed now that I hear a really minor or NOT so loud clicking noise even we don't turn the engine, it doesn't last a long time but I am wondering where that noise coming from.. do you think that is still the actuator acting up?
The easiest way you can check the actuators is to put a long screwdriver on each one. If one is bad or ticking you will feel it tick through the screwdriver 🪛. I have had to replace all 3 of mine within a years period.
That is a beautiful sound.
It is if the car you’re thinking of buying is making it and you know how to fix it yourself! 😉 Discount!!!
What's the actuator that does a slower bumping noise? Whatever it is, it was doing this for about 2, 3 years and has now, suddenly gotten obnoxiously loud, like someone knocking on the wall, inside the passenger side dash. 2010 Impala.
Sounds like the passenger side actuator. Good news is it’s the easiest to replace. Drop your glove box and find the actuator, touch it with a screw driver. If it’s the one going bad you will feel the knocking vibration through the screw driver. Super easy and inexpensive to fix yourself. Good luck!
I have a 2013 impala from my dad. Have you ever had the 5 spoke rims start to peel. Flakes by the stem. I want to keep the car nice because my dad passed away in 2020. My mom gave me his car. Think it might be from the salt they use in Iowa on the road in winter. Really don't want to buy new rims. Think they are ok just don't like how it looks unfortunately.
Sorry to hear about your Dad, understand it can be comforting to hold on to things that were once used by loved ones. Haven’t had any problems with my rims so far and don’t really know of a fix other than trying to spray paint them, but that doesn’t usually turn out to good.
Yes they peel.
This is boo boo! Im not even almost looking forward to replacing this but id rather drive my car into a wall than take it back to the dealership. Thanks for the ease of explanation.
It’s to easy to replace to pay your hard earned money to a dealership! Good luck!
Oh Good Lord THANK YOU 🎉❤😅
Glad it helped
What does the driver's side actuator control in a single climate control vehicle?
Each actuator opens or closes the flow of hot or cold air to each side.
Did anyone have to recalibrate or run any kind of cycle for the actual toes after install?
The last couple minutes of the video will show you how to perform the self calibration.
Hi so my daughters car is making this noise and the mechanic is telling her it is a huge job and needs to remove entire dash board and probably an 8hour job, how can I tell which actuator needs to be changed ?? We get the sound just by opening the car door sometimes and sometimes only when we start the car but does same as your keeps going when you turn car off.
Try taking a long screw drive and put the end of it on each actuator and you will be able to tell by the vibration of the clicking. The 2 in the glove box are super easy to replace. The driver side is a little harder just because you have to put it back in by feel, but you can do it I promise. Definitely not paying someone 8 hrs of labor. Hope this helped!
@@WhojoedaddyDIY thank you for your advice and taking the time to read my comment/question.
Mine doesn't have a harness wire. If I buy a wire for it, how do I install it? The plug goes into the actuator, but where do I connect the remaining wire on the other side?
Are you sure the wire harness isn’t tucked in with other wires? Can’t imagine why someone would remove it.
@@WhojoedaddyDIY Well, I bought the car used, and there were other problems with it that I managed to fix, but this one just strange how the actuator and wire isn't even there. I'm gonna buy the parts, but I don't what power source to the plug the wire in?
I replaced the far passenger actuator and the car was blowing warm air. I had to do the recibrate sequence twice and then on the second time, it worked. Hope this helps someone .
How do you know which one is bad?
If you drop your glove box, you have 1 mounted to the wall on the left and one on top blower motor. Touch both of those and see if you can feel the clicking. If you can’t, it is more than likely the one on the driver side. You can use a long screwdriver and touch the one on the driver side to feel clicking.
So i changed it but don't think i did the calibration right..... What cab i do to fix that
What makes you think you didn’t do it right?
How many actuators in a single climate control vehicle? Is there a left side actuator at all?
You have 2 behind the glove box on passenger side and one on the driver side behind the dash.
Thank you for the response. What does the one on the driver's side control? I have replaced the glove compartment two, the left was apparently hot/cold and the right recirculation.@@WhojoedaddyDIY
Thanks so much, my actuator started clicking on the driver side too, is that the reason when I turn on the AC, the passenger side received cold air, and the driver side still is blowing out heat?
You have an actuator on the driver side and passenger. So if one is not responding when you change the settings or starts clicking. I would check that side first by touching the actuator with a screwdriver to fill if it is moving or clicking.
How do you know which one to replace?
Drop the glove box and touch each one with a screwdriver and you can feel the vibration of the one making the noise. If it’s not those then it is probably the one on the driver side.
Wouldn't this be the same for 2014 as well?
Not sure, easiest way to find out would be to drop the glove box and see if it looks similar.
Whats that part name to replace?

Can you leave it unplugged?
I suppose you could, but you might not be able to defrost your windshield. Or wouldn’t be able to switch from hot or cold. It’s worth trying to replace it. If I can do it, I don’t know why with a little patience any one else couldn’t do it.
Please tell me you live in Texas 😢 i dont wanna do this 😭
😂 Nope the great state of Tennessee. It’s really not that bad, you just might want to do some stretches if it’s the drivers side. You have to bend yourself into a pretzel to get your hands up there. Good luck 👍
How in the hell is this not a recall, thats crazy
Once the first one goes bad, just expect to have to replace them all!
Can i just unplug them?
You can, I have unplugged one and plugged it back in and it stopped clicking.
What happens if you leave them unplugged?
I have to do it 😭
It not that hard and it’s worth the time for the money you save.👍
I wish I would have known about this video sooner. I took mine to a garage and got charged over $200. I had 2 of making the noise at different times. I would have tried it myself both times.
Here from the meme 😂
????
My 2013 impala was fine for years and years and now fall of 2023 everything electric is broken. Nothing works. Still a reliable engine/car but Jesus Christ chevys are a mess
Mine is definitely starting to give me plenty of repairs to make TH-cam videos of! 😂
