if I've learned anything from watching alvin and kendall, it's that everyone that works with andrew has to be the most down-to-earth human in order to balance him out
I think you should have done soup dumplings, filled with only tomato soup, and served with a fried cheese "dumpling skirt" underneath. This way the filling is soup, rather than pizza roll filling, and you get the flavour of the grilled cheese (the part that escapes the grilled cheese sandwich and becomes crunchy)
Agree, and/or have the cheese layer inside separated by enclosing another small dumpling inside the bigger one, which contains the soup. Also incorporating scallions would have been cool.

I could see this working by making shengjian bao instead of xiaolong bao: they are soup dumplings with a thicker, sturdier dough that are pan fried instead of steamed.

If you would have put cheese between two wrappers and then used that to wrap the soup. It would have been more like a grilled cheese with tomato soup. Instead of the cheese and soup combining inside the dumpling. But your idea to fry it was definitely the right move.
Going by the premise that a dumpling can just be anything with something stuffed in it, you could always try little croustade filled with your cheese & tomato filling. Plus it lets you play with a croustade iron, I love frying & playing with mine. At the beginning of "lock-down" I was toying with filled pastas. The one people seem to like the most was my breaded & fried, Philly cheesesteak raviolis. It had everything a cheesesteak needs, bread, steak, onion, peppers, cheese, ketchup and mustard. You can do them as large or small as your skill & desire tell you. A few large ones on a plate can make a satisfying side or starter.
The hilarious thing is that, if we didn't know this channel, we would not assume that the baffled man wandering around the kitchen acting high was actually in charge.

I feel like we need a mini-series of sorts where they ALL combine. Alvin picks Kendall’s Andrew picks Alvin’s & Kendall picks Andrew’s. Then just have the crew choose the best outcome. OR have it be breakfast combo, lunch combo and dinner combo.
From Andrew's chaotic vibe, and Alvin's chill demeanor, Kendall's absolute cinnamon roll of a personality really ties together the mood triangle.
