But you missed the fact that the 7300 has an emergency tuner, be it at 50 watts, that can change it to a 10:1 tuner which will just about tune anything. I have made hundreds of contacts portable with that unit using the 10:1 tuner. Robert KD4YDC
The FT-710 internal tuner will match almost anything without having to switch to an "emergency" mode. Having said that, I prefer to use resonant antennas whenever possible.
@@ivandubinsky1857 Are you aware though what I am saying. The 710 has a 3:1 tuner. So it can only tune a 3:1 match or below. The 7300 in emergency mode has a 10:1 tuner. So anything with a 10:1 swr, it can pretty much match. I agree with resonate antennas as well. A dummy load has a great swr, but doesn't radiate anything like a tuned, resonate dipole would.
Good honest review. I have only used an ICOM 7300 one time during an event and did not have to use any features, though I have heard the same thing, it is easy to use. On the other hand I have a Yaesu 710 and it is a fantastic radio once you learn to use it and the audio reports I get from other stations is great, so I know it works well on both ends. However if I could only have one sub $1500 radio, it has to be the Yaesu FTDX10.

@BurtonChristmasLites - yes, I can only imagine 11m can be effective at times.

Thanks for sharing, yes the FTDX10 is great but it might be too expensive for some!
both of these outstanding radios are fantastic for new operators as well as long timers as well.
