6 Problems With TDU3 Solar Crown | Physics, Menu, Always Online | Test Drive Unlimited SC | TDU Beta

- Despite my overall enjoyment of TDU Solar Crown so far, at least in its early access PS5 closed beta form, its not without its issues, problems and annoyances. But that is of course part of the benefit of a beta - for a wise developer to learn from bugs, glitches, issues and or feedback from the players and make changes accordingly...
With that in mind as the TDU3 beta wraps up, here are the 6 issues which stood out to me about Test Drive Unlimited SC, now having bought all of the available cars, driven on every road, explored the map, found tons of wrecks (barn finds) and completed all available events and races.

If you can’t pause a race they should at least have an “auto drive” mode like Gran Turismo
Unfortunately they have already confirmed that every single event in the game is multiplayer only, with it also being an always online / online only game, those are the 2 biggest reason I'm never buying the game, if those get changed in the future then it'll be a maybe.
Yeah, the lack of a single-player career mode, which is something the previous two Test Drive Unlimited games had, is the main reason I'm not buying this game at launch as well as my concerns that they haven't yet guaranteed that they'll add an offline patch at end of life.
And the fact that an offline patch (if at all) only comes when the game is switched off tells me that they don't really take the issue seriously. An offline mode also makes sense if the servers break down or there is maintenance.

Exactly what im thinking! I was looking forward to this game so much but the always multiplayer/matchmaking thing made me not want the game now i beleive everything in this game will be pvp focused thats what i feel they are trying to do also with the clan vs clan
They actually confirmed that motorbikes will be added but probably not during the first year of content sadly
Ah missed that, fantastic to hear. Will be very curious to see how the physics pan out. Presumably they could pull from some other games in the Nacon library for it...

God I hate modern games.
This just shows how incredibly limited bigger studios are in actually making what would be considered good games.
It has to be live service. It has to have half the content cut out at launch to slowly trickle in over the next 2 years. It has to have some kind of FOMO mechanic.
Yeah it went from making good games that are fun to play so people will buy your expensive game, to making free to play always online games that are designed to exploit your psychology to milk all money out and create an addiction. And now for some reason they want to bring those free to play features like seasons and battle passes to fully paid games. And now they got nostalgia to help with that when it comes to games like these.
Don't get me wrong though, I played TDU SC demo and enjoyed it a lot. I think driving felt nice and there is that TDU vibe there for sure. Who knows maybe the battle pass system will be nice and keeps players engaged. I just wish the game was designed from the ground up to do that without the need of keeping players grinding for cosmetic items. But in general I hate how it seems like if you don't do these things (unless you're an indie game) you will fail or at least that's how big publishers seem to think. Corporate greed I guess.
@@RCmies I never miss the opportunity to point out that big studio DEVELOPERS are also absolutely terrible at their job too.
Indie studios produce polished games, innovate, and build upon content. It appears that any studio over 30 people are now incapable of this. Look over to RoR2 after being bought by Gearbox, their big studio full of probably an army of devs spent a year completely scrambling the code for that game. Bringing it from a well made and stable title to an absolute clusterflip, the additions are poorly made as well.
Modern tech graduates with no passion for development or projects they get put on that are simply incapable of producing quality even if they did care enough to try.
The people making tdusc aren't a big studio at all
NFS Unbound is the definition of that when it comes to racing games.
According to me the only real issue with this game is the enormous focus they seem to have on ‘socialization’ between players. I absolutely loathe the thought of being forced to interact with other players since previous TDU games were all about the single player experience for me.

Smh... man I swear modern gaming with these battle passes and always online nonsense ruins everything. Why are all events multiplayer only? No story mode like TDU2?! There is so much potential for a single player story here. If this is the future of racing games, the arcade sub genre that would follow the footsteps of Burnout 3, Midnight Club 2, etc dont stand a chance in hell! R.I.P to my favorite genre of games. :(
The only multiplayer races means it's a no buy for me. Always online isn't great, but I could get over that. I've had too many bad experiences in multiplayer racing to not want to try and do a career mode with it.
5:50 except for Elden Ring I guess. You can't say anything even remotely negative about that game otherwise you'll start getting flamed.
The deal breaker for me is no homes, or properties at launch. That's literally the DNA of TDU, and to not have it at launch says all I need to know about this modern version. They promised all of this content like the coast of Ibiza (not the whole map, btw), but I'm sick of Live Service games that launch half-finished, and then slowly drip feed content to keep players engaged. The "always online" requirement also made me just skip this game entirely because I prefer to own my games and not rent them. I'll consider it when they confirm an offline patch that allows you to do things like pause the game when racing AI, etc.
Unfortunately, the new world order that is approaching will be different and much worse than the current one... According to the new laws, it is to be that "We will have nothing but we will be happy" Klaus Schwab !!! World Economic Forum... And soon there will be no cash at all, they are already introducing it in the European Union... And then it is to be like this all over the world... Everything is to be on loan, even cars in reality...
They are going to add them later, look AT the last tdu trailer "post launch content"

Honestly the whole "live service, always online" approach they chose is gonna hurt this game.. Literally how many Live Service games came out this year and last year and out of them all how many were actually successful... They really taking a huge gamble.. but I wish them all the best, unfortunately for me, whatever interest I had in this game got lost when they announced it's an "MMO".
I was really hoping to finally get a proper alternative to GT7 or Forza, but most issues you mentioned are deal breakers for now.

The biggest factor from me buying this game is the fact its always online and with that comes the fact that you have to be online to do the career mode, Another thing is how expensive the car upgrades are which seems odd. I'm still slightly excited as Forza horizon 5 will finally have some competition but I'm really hoping that the launch of this game is smooth as the whole development team is going on strike due to lack of information about the future.
It’s the amount of content for me , from what I’ve seen , we’re going to be rinsing and repeating certain races over and over . And the always online thing . I’m going to hold off on it , until full game is out . But if you post vids , I shall watch 😉
No pause during races that’s a big joke and shit feature like nfs 2015. It’s stupid to put it like that in the game and making me not thinking of buying it.
1\ AWD advantage. All they have to do is increase the performance index rating of AWD by a certain offset.
2\ I'm actually fine with the increased slow-down railings and lamp posts, I find it's a good compromise between matchstick items in Forza Horizon/NFS Heat and indestructible items popular from much older games. It also promotes cleaner driving, as long as players aren't rewarded for using these smashables as their brakes.
3\ The stationery camera style is super annoying, yes.
4 & 5\ Agreed, let us pause when no humans are with us. Should be an easy fix if they choose to address it.
6\ I agree of course, but if it's absolutely necessary to keep the game fresh for many years and if they provide an offline patch at the end then I'll put up with it.
With regards to the online only aspect I used to have The Crew and back in March this year before they closed down the servers I went on it for one last time and then threw my disc in the bin because it was useless
But there are dedicated fans working on getting it running again and you need your disc to run it...
Yeah I have the game on PS4 on disc. How the fuck am I gonna get a refund? There is no way. Literally felt like I was robbed. I know it's just one game it's not like I lost my life savings but it's not right. I still wanted to play that game and now I can't.

I won't be bothering to buy this game just because it's digital only, sucks but I like to keep my games for years later.
Im also avoiding to buy only because of this, I really want to buy but after The Crew` 1 situation its being really complicated to buy online only games knowing its not actually going to be playable some years later.

As long as they don't rug pull like The Crew, I think standard version is still some sort of acceptable, gold edition with extra loots and starter packs? That's only a heartless ca$hgrab for the casual players.
TDUSC being a online-only game only benefits the devs in terms IP control and maybe lower development costs. For players it's a bad deal. The game will be graphically compromised for performance, even then there's no guarantee that gameplay will be smooth on packed servers. The killer will be when Nacon switch-off the online servers. TDUSC will be dead like Titanfall 1, The Crew 1, NFS World, Doritos Crash Course 2 and the list goes on. What is the point of buying a 250 pound collection's edition of the game when in 5-10 years time you won't able to play it?
TDUSC isn't going to do anything genre defining. Where are the coastline cruises? The top half of the map is basically mountain roads going into the city. The neon blue way-points are a good 25 years out of date The Map UI design is a blatant copy of Need for Speed Carbon. It was a big deal to find a small car showroom that was a 90 minute drive from your house in TDU1 & 2. All that has gone in TDUSC due to the smaller map, road layout and the huge generic car showrooms. players will probably be able to drive along every road on Hong-Kong island in 30 minutes. When has the 3rd iteration of any racing game series been better than the first two excluding graphics? Maybe Burnout 3 & Outrun: Coast 2 Coast, after that you're struggling because it rarely happens. I would like TDUSC to prove me wrong but I honestly can't see that happening. The gameplay just reminds me of NFS: Most wanted 2012 on the Xbox 360. The cliche Docks area, using the gas station to service or swap vehicles. In my opinion TDUSC isn't a proper Test Drive Unlimited game. Nacon are hoping that nostalgia and social-media hype will carry the game to glory.
Most of the big TDU content creators were kids when TDU2 came out never mind TDU1. Are they the best people to give a balanced critique of TDUSC? probably not. That's why they tend to get access to the game even before the professional game journalists. People forget that TDU2 got average review scores 6/10 the odd 7/10 at the most. TDU2 had major issues it's modders that have kept the game alive up to this point and even with mods it's still not a better driving game than TDU1. It's easy for nostalgia to blind you especially if you were very young at the time.
Another big issue is you can’t sell cars! Just like forza or the crew, once you buy a car you are stuck with it! So when you get that first car but eventually build up enough cash to buy something better, you can’t then sell that original car to give you a little bit of money back!

The release handling is going to be different. Using Alex VII as a source, they vastly improved the handling physics presumably after the PC demo, but definitely shown before the VIP beta when he visited their HQ. I played a day of the VIP beta, but then decided to shelve that and just wait for the actual release (which is the 5th for me as I bought the Gold Edition).
So yeah, I'd recommend you get a feel for the game in its full release before making recommendations based on a build that's honestly like 5 or so months old

@@agileapollo Because it's a different handling model to what has already been shown on Alex's channel. For some reason they decided the demo and both betas should be on an old build. It was a couple months old even when the demo was out
Yeah and some folks who happened to be on the gamescom in Germany. Tested it and said the same. The physics in the final game are changed. I hope in every aspect for the best 😅
But now it's just 4 days to wait 🫸🏼🫷🏼 the most people who bought the Gold edition can test it for them self or view so many reviews and test videos here on TH-cam 😅
Why do items have rarities?
I’ll buy this when it’s on sell because it’s an always online. Also why buy a game that’s basically the same atm as Forza & The crew. This is really not a TDU game yet until year 1 dlcs are introduced. I rather just wait.
For me, even the ‘Year 1’ roadmap only covers a small part of what TDU is really about. So I will wait at least another year. If the game lives to see it at all...

In my experience of the steam next fest beta fwd was by far the most op drivetrain. Awd is the best but per pi fwd was clearly the most dominant. My mito was 200 points less than my alpine and faster in some races.
Great video HSG by the way. I remember playing Forza Horizon 2 3 and 4 without ever being online and it was a blast to enjoy those. If this game is patterned from it, I don't see why they shouldn't have do the same. Just have option to connect to live server and see other players or make generate those as AI.
Another thing that concerns me is when I look at their content schedule release (many people might not have problem with it) shows things like season pass and new location(s). Now what's the point of setting the game in Hong Kong and later take us to another place far away from it, unlike the 1st TDU it's ridiculous; and then there's season pass, it's a racing game it doesn't need a season pass...
Nothing is saved from the betas. When we download the full game we have to start from scratch. That's what made me loose interest in the second beta on playstation simply because I saw no point given the build also was the exact same.
Regarding cameras I've had a bug where looking back most of the time is interpreted as tilting the view up which is something I can only hope was just a beta thing. When it comes to pausing the game I agree very much on that one as well as there's no restart option which also is just weird.
I just need to get my hands on the final build next thursday and reevaluate from that point on given we've been playing an old build, so it makes no sense other than just pushing that to the side and evaluate the actual release build.
I mostly used the second beta to do a glitch to drive around the main map in the Huracan Performante. Very fun
Problem I have with this game is that besides for gambling (shouldn’t really be considered a positive) this game replicates features that other franchises already do better so can somebody explain to me exactly what makes it unique besides for the map which looks good (empty asf)
A lot of us will probably be playing it for the nostalgic name as much as anything to be honest, but besides that it is unfortunate that TDU1 was such a game changer for free roaming map racers, then 2 didn't really innovate much on top of that, and this hasn't either so far. 2 and 3 have mostly just stuck to the formula, whereas 1 pioneered it
I really don't like the camera pulling towards the car when you break. Trail breaking feels like you lose so much more speed than you actually do but for you to know and feel comfortable with the speed you're losing you have to look at the speedometer. They need gt7 levels of trigger resistance too. I want to feel like I'm light on break and throttle

Physics in TDUSC is great. If you used to the crap like NFS has, or you want the cars on rails like in FH, then sorry, it won't be like that and pls, don't try to turn it into that by any means.
How big is the map is it like massive or just the average open world map ?
I'd estimate bigger than Ibiza, but smaller than Hawaii. Took me 3 days to drive on all the roads in the top half which we had access to

the map is bigger than the Ibiza expansion they're giving us in December
BUT Hong Kong Island is smaller than previous TDU maps. As it is 1:1 scale it is like 79sq/km if I remember which is a similar size to fh5, but TDUs map has a significant amount of roads more, which are all better quality to drive (not boring like fh5s map) and is way more dense with more to see and do

@@xavielogando9998 The first Test Drive game was released in 1987 but the first Test Drive Unlimited game was from 2006. The first Forza game, Forza Motorsport on the XBox, came out in 2005, a year before the first TDU but the first Forza Horizon came out in 2012, six years after Test Drive Unlimited and a year after Test Drive Unlimited 2.
I don't understand why people make videos to batch a game that most of them don't even know the history of it. Tisk tisk....I'll see all of ya wanting this game after is released. The game is different already since it was created. And for me is still is a better driving experience than any other open racing game I've played. ( In my opinion no offense)
