Thanks for the 5 year follow up brother... facing the fusion decision due to a long history of weightlifting as a young 48 year old husband\father. There is so much crap negativity and it's good to see a positive outcome. I am in the NY metro area as well, think I will add Dr. Stieber to my list of consults ( working through Hospital for Special Surgery at the moment ).

Charles a big Hello from Mumbai... Your experience inspired me and gave me strength to get a micro disectonomy on my L5S1 disc done. It was a badly herniated disc and was bulging out. After a year of pain and a trying everything that is out there I got relief but took a year to be 100%. Thanks much appreciate it. This was done at Max Nanavati hospital in Mumbai in 2017 by Spine Surgeon Dr Amandeep Gujral. Thanks and God bless.

Hey! I have a grade2 spondylolesthesis. I have dealt with this for over 40 years through being an athlete , wrestler and wrestling coach and Infantry /military etc. I deal with it in some capacity every single day. Just some days are a little better. Have backed out of surgery multiple times when I would start feeling better . Then the cycle returns. Trying to get the courage to go forward with the surgery. Thanks for ur video, ur experience is very similar to mine. Good luck to u and thanks. I’d love to be able to speak with you on the phone but know that is probably to much to ask. Thanks again!!

Hi Charles, thanks for update, I am happy for you. I'm facing the same situation very soon, most likely it will be ALIF with rods and screws from the back at S1/L5. I am 49 and terrified. How quickly was your back actually fused according to your doctor? And when did he give you green light to start getting more into physical activity?

If I remember correctly it was around the 4 month mark is when I got imaging done that had showed it was fused, but I didn't do anything really physical for a few months after. I was just as terrified as you are and I almost backed out the day of the surgery. It's a scary thing to go through and I wish you all the best if you choose to get the surgery.

What type of fusion did you have did they go through the front or your back? Was it s1 l5 level?

Charles, when did you find that you were able to move more dynamically with confidence and no flare ups ? How far past surgery date did this happen?

Biggest piece of advice I can give is don't rush your recovery and really give yourself enough time to heal and STAY POSITIVE!! Its really easy to get depressed during the healing process so the better able to keep a positive mindset the better you will heal.
