Meanwhile, the male sole survivor was a war veteran from Anchorage and a bit beyond that, and if the terminal in fraternal post 115 is to be believed, a very decorated one at that. Codworths had only known you for a couple of months to a year, but he admired you because of your service to the country He knows that you have his back and he has yours. When he takes that final bullet from a raider, Super Mutant, or whatever enemy, he is surprised. He thought he was safe with you, no matter where he went. His last words are not of anger, not of disappointment, but of shock because he believed himself to be better, but worst of all, to be secure. Or i'm reading way to much into this. You choose.
After a few years in game you walk the commonwealth and suddenly you realize you have to take care of somethin but can't quite put your finger on what you have to take care of.

Nick’s dying words really got to me just because of how amazing his voice actor is. Codsworth’s is equally as heartbreaking to me just because of how shocked he seems that he’s about to die.
Piper: Wants you to take care of her little sister, knowing she won't be around for her. McCready: Scared of death, not willing to accept it as he has a son to look after. Strong: Finally comes to realise that he may not have been as strong as he had imagined Codsworth: Realizing he is going to die comes as a shock to him. These are the ones that really broke my heart.
Preston: Tries to tell you about a settlement that needs your help, and he needed to mark it on your map one last time, but he's already in his limits and said that it shouldn't end like this

It's a sort of sensitive situation. With the female, he feels more so like he let you down, therefore, he is more sad and distressed. With the male he's very confused as to why he's dying.
Well female sole survivor is a lawyer. He’s sad that he won’t be able to protect you. Meanwhile with male sole survivor he’s sure he’a protected because he’s fighting aside a pre war soldier. Surely he’s safe. Then he goes down, and the shock hits him.

Okay, one of these lines was absolutely heart-wrenching when you put it into more context. Freaking MacCready. Let me explain. For starters, listen to the tone of his voice. While a lot of the companions are somewhat calm and collected, some of them outright accepting their death, MacCready is panicked. rushed, and desperate. He's not ready to die (rightfully so, the guy is only 22.) The line in itself is a stark contrast to his personality. MacCready is practically begging not to die, whether it's the Sole Survivor or some higher power. This is the same man who laughs at stealing, who loves it when you threaten and intimidate people, who's affinity is partially dependent on the Sole asking for more caps during sidequests. The same person who was tracked by the Gunners for ages because he couldn't ask anyone for help prior to meeting the Sole. RJ MacCready is not one to beg, and here he is, his final words a desperate plea to live. He also, likely, acknowledges the fact that he hasn't been the best person during the last few years of his life, which he's desperately trying to amend (it is the reason he stopped cursing, after all.) He knows that he'd have died not as someone who changed the wasteland for the better, but likely as someone who had made it worse. But the real nail in the coffin is why he's begging like this. For those of you who have never made it far enough in the MacCready quest line, he needs your help to fight through a Med Tek facility to find a cure for his sick son, who has no chance of survival without the medicine. And if he dies prior to getting the cure to his son, Duncan, they're both dead. Even if the quest was complete, that leaves Duncan an orphan, with nobody to take care of him, a fate shared by MacCready in his earlier days. A fate MacCready would do anything to protect his son from. Please excuse me as I cry myself to sleep.
Beautifully written, and very accurate to the portrayal of the character. Matt Mercer (his voice actor) really did an outstanding job voicing MacCready, and he is my favorite of the companions.
This is why I think MacCready is companion (and romance option) story wise. Both him and the Sole lost their spouses, at risk of losing/lost their kids, both as tough as nails in a world that’s put to destroy them.

Preston is laid out on the rubbled ground, one hand against his wounded throbbing chest. Blood gushing out, choking for just one more breath of that dusty air he was so use to living in. "T-take.. care of that settlement for me.. here, i'll-.. I'll mark it on your map f-for you.. one last time.. babe.." He whispers in an ever-so-drained voice. Marking the settlement on your blood-strained pipboy with just a prick of his blood from the tip of his finger. "At least.. at least its not raining, huh?" Preston chuckles in a croaky dry voice. Leaning his other hand against your cheek with a mere small smile before he releases his last breath, blood dribbling from the corner of his mouth. Hand dropping to his side, as his earthy-brown eyes drift away to a better place. A better place where settlements are no longer in danger, a place where it no longer rains, and a place with no monotone voices.
Oh my god.... Nick's death got me... "Not.... like.. t-this....." I honestly love his voice actor. He does a good job at what he does. The ,"Thats a lot of coolant" upset me. Well, all of them did. And the way Hancock was mad, like he was going to avenge his death! That was amazing. And if my brother were to be a character, he would be MacCready, so those hit hard. Codsworth was depressingly sad also, like Nicks. Its sounds worse if the survivor us female. Deacons too.

In a wierd way Hancock has the saddest death line. To me it symbolizes the fact that he did what he loved right as he died, and that makes me sadly happy
I downloaded the "Nov Essential NPC" mod and I wanted to test it out before continuing my game so I shot up Codsworth pretty bad and his death quote really fucked me up (I played as a dude). Say what you want about his last words, but in my opinion they're the most touching because Codsworth couldn't even begin to grasp the idea of death because he's just a Mr. Handy (I'm pretty sure General Atomics would get some pretty serious complaints about "suicidal robots" if they programmed the concept of death into their products) and it's just really touching and sad after being shot too much he starts to understand that he can die because he IS dying. That's just my opinion.

Why does X-8 sound alive in his dying moments. Also the reason Codsworth is more emotional towards the female sole survivor is because he was with her most of the prewar cause she had just recently given birth to Shaun. So he kinda holds more sentiment to her.
And, Nate is a decorated combat veteran. If there's one person who can hold their own in the post-apocalyptic hellworld, it's Nate. I have little doubt that Codsworth knows that Nate is as tough as they come, so I suspect he can more easily make peace with leaving Nate behind.
@@TheAttacker732 More than that, Codsworth likely sees Nate as being a protector, as well. Somebody Codsworth can know he is safe with, because Nate is, as one would expect, able to protect both himself and his robotic butler. That's why, instead of being sad, or even content with passing, he's surprised. Because he felt like Nate could have done more, should have been able to do more to prevent him from becoming scrap.
Because X6 is alive? He may be convinced he is not, but we all know synths are just 3d-printed humans. Including coursers. They may be brainwashed better, but we've still seen courser rebels in the game.
I believe X-8 didn't react to his death as a normal synth simply because he didn't have another way of hiding the fact that he is sentinent. You know, like how Father says when synths are "malfunctioning"

I'm not even a big fan of Strong, but hearing him say "Human, hold them off, Strong hurt bad!" shockingly hit me pretty hard. Like... Hearing such a proud warrior beg for help like that? It's heartbreaking. Even more so when he acknowledges defeat. "Agghh, human... Stronger..."
This. I mean MacCready and Pipers lines were really well done too, but it's heartbreakingly sweet that Strong's last words, his last impulse, is to compliment/admire the Sole Survivor. It's just so easy to get Strong's disapproval for not being as strong as him, so when his last breath is used to validate the SS's strength it's really bitter sweet. I'm not someone who plays with Strong very often either (usually play a charismatic power armor user), but it's nice to see that Strong can actually be selfless in his final moments.

It made me feel empty. You know, this feeling when you don’t even care anymore. Cait’s confused voice nearing death is so unique for her. The only companions who were kind of mediocre with their quotes are Deacon, Preston and the boring ass Institute synth

Sad, that he can't catch another bullet for you. And Danse... He'd go through hell with you. And he wants to keep this soldiers friendship alive. He's a true battle buddy, to death and beyond.
Codsworth's male death line is very sad if you think about it, hes saying that he is dying, that you let him down, that you let this happen, *you* are the reason he's dying and weren't there to protect him

For starters, listen to the tone of his voice. While a lot of the companions are somewhat calm and collected, some of them outright accepting their death, MacCready is panicked. rushed, and desperate. He's not ready to die (rightfully so, the guy is only 22.)
The line in itself is a stark contrast to his personality. MacCready is practically begging not to die, whether it's the Sole Survivor or some higher power. This is the same man who laughs at stealing, who loves it when you threaten and intimidate people, who's affinity is partially dependent on the Sole asking for more caps during sidequests. The same person who was tracked by the Gunners for ages because he couldn't ask anyone for help prior to meeting the Sole. RJ MacCready is not one to beg, and here he is, his final words a desperate plea to live.
He also, likely, acknowledges the fact that he hasn't been the best person during the last few years of his life, which he's desperately trying to amend (it is the reason he stopped cursing, after all.) He knows that he'd have died not as someone who changed the wasteland for the better, but likely as someone who had made it worse.
But the real nail in the coffin is why he's begging like this. For those of you who have never made it far enough in the MacCready quest line, he needs your help to fight through a Med Tek facility to find a cure for his sick son, who has no chance of survival without the medicine. And if he dies prior to getting the cure to his son, Duncan, they're both dead. Even if the quest was complete, that leaves Duncan an orphan, with nobody to take care of him, a fate shared by MacCready in his earlier days. A fate MacCready would do anything to protect his son from.

Beautifully written, and very accurate to the portrayal of the character. Matt Mercer (his voice actor) really did an outstanding job voicing MacCready, and he is my favorite of the companions.
This is why I think MacCready is companion (and romance option) story wise. Both him and the Sole lost their spouses, at risk of losing/lost their kids, both as tough as nails in a world that’s put to destroy them.
I waited since fallout 3 to watch him die, so I find it funny you went emotional for his lines lol.

Hand dropping to his side, as his earthy-brown eyes drift away to a better place. A better place where settlements are no longer in danger, a place where it no longer rains, and a place with no monotone voices.

I downloaded the "Nov Essential NPC" mod and I wanted to test it out before continuing my game so I shot up Codsworth pretty bad and his death quote really fucked me up (I played as a dude). Say what you want about his last words, but in my opinion they're the most touching because Codsworth couldn't even begin to grasp the idea of death because he's just a Mr. Handy (I'm pretty sure General Atomics would get some pretty serious complaints about "suicidal robots" if they programmed the concept of death into their products) and it's just really touching and sad after being shot too much he starts to understand that he can die because he IS dying. That's just my opinion.

Why does X-8 sound alive in his dying moments. Also the reason Codsworth is more emotional towards the female sole survivor is because he was with her most of the prewar cause she had just recently given birth to Shaun. So he kinda holds more sentiment to her.
And, Nate is a decorated combat veteran. If there's one person who can hold their own in the post-apocalyptic hellworld, it's Nate. I have little doubt that Codsworth knows that Nate is as tough as they come, so I suspect he can more easily make peace with leaving Nate behind.

Somebody Codsworth can know he is safe with, because Nate is, as one would expect, able to protect both himself and his robotic butler. That's why, instead of being sad, or even content with passing, he's surprised. Because he felt like Nate could have done more, should have been able to do more to prevent him from becoming scrap.
Because X6 is alive? He may be convinced he is not, but we all know synths are just 3d-printed humans. Including coursers. They may be brainwashed better, but we've still seen courser rebels in the game.

This. I mean MacCready and Pipers lines were really well done too, but it's heartbreakingly sweet that Strong's last words, his last impulse, is to compliment/admire the Sole Survivor. It's just so easy to get Strong's disapproval for not being as strong as him, so when his last breath is used to validate the SS's strength it's really bitter sweet. I'm not someone who plays with Strong very often either (usually play a charismatic power armor user), but it's nice to see that Strong can actually be selfless in his final moments.

im really glad that companions cant die,it actually kinda scared me to hear macready die,if anything companions dying was really the only true thing i hated about fallout 3
They can die if you piss them of until they hate and leave you.Than they lose invincibility.
They can also die in survival mode I think. I'm a n00b and have never played it, so that's just what I've heard from others.
I stole a fat man and nick was royally pissed at me, I already did the main quests, already finished the game with the Brotherhood of Steel, but he getting up. A few days later, I head to Diamond City, still pissed at me.
