It was the only car in the Acura lineup that had cloth seats, and ran on regular (87) fuel. One day, a distracted driver slammed into the back of the car while I was stopped at a red light. Yes, it was totaled after 13 years. My only real gripe was the difficulty in replacing blown low beam headlights. No tools required, but it was a tight job. Once my hands were in there, I could NOT see what I was doing. The car was GREAT! The handling was fantastic. The shifter was Honda-smooth. I could get 33 mpg on road trips. I've seen the 2023 Integra. I bet it does everything right. Not too crazy about the looks. It looks like a lowered crossover. Such is life!

@@jonasbaine3538 yes, the miata is still around, but as a brand, Mazda no longer promotes the "zoom-zoom". They are moving away from affordable fun zippy, to entry-luxury w/a focus on style and ambiance. No more Mazdaspeed. The miata is 1 of 2 cars with a manual (the other is the 3). Everything Mazda is doing is about moving up market. Granted their offerings drive better than (communicate to the driver) more than others, but that stuff is buried in the brochure. I have a CX-5 and wrx in the garage in case you are wondering.
I miss my RSX. I bought the base level 5-speed model (160hp) brand new in 2004. I drove that car over 250,000 miles.
Back in the day, the RSX Type S was actually poorly received as a follow up to the Integra Type R. But in hindsight, it was more than worthy, just different, and the upcoming Integra Type S should be too.
When kids complain the upcoming Integra is "just" a dressed up civic 🙄
i agree, although the new integra to me is “meh” but rsx was actually pretty good
@@JDMHaze - new Integra is a travesty. Long gone are the days of compact coupes, everything now is a limousine.
The new Integra Type S is always going to be poorly received because it doesn't resembles an Integra.
@@Mr.Takahash1 that's the problem... the new one is just another of the myriad of 4 doors. Integras were also 4 door but they had a coupe option at least available and the models were unique in their own way. New "Integra" is like a 4 door Civic and Kia Stinger has a baby and the only thing they bothered to put in the car that was like an Integra is the name on the front bumper.
Had one of these in the Japanese Type R spec years ago. Miss those days...
Picked up an 02 satin silver rsx for my first car 3 years ago... what a great decision I've made!😎
Very cool car still imo
I owned a couple used Integrals in the 90s. Test drove a new O3 RSX Model but the dealers were getting near sticker back then . couldn't quite swing it back then ...but now may buy a used one..
Properly maintained you could drive this car well over 300,000 miles no problem. One of the best cars ever made.
My 06 type s has been so reliable and I'm almost at 190k miles
Love my RSX base, interior is perfect for me and it's a rare sight on the road. Never liked it as a kid but have grown to dig it. 2003 with 229k on it! Bought it in kinda rough shape but BONE STOCK with 184k. You know you found a gem when it has the OEM headunit lol.
Me too!!
I always preferred the 94-01s but after owning one for 2 plus years, it has grown a ton on me also 🤟🏽
My first brand new car was a 2002 RSX. Time flies.
There’s like a million of these for sale with 200,000 miles and worth several thousand dollars. Says a lot about reliability
One of acuras best cars
I miss my DC5 so bad. I regret selling that car, I LOVED it.
My gf was supposed to get her dads old RSX Type S. He drove us in it a few times and it was so sweet. Custom steering wheel, full bolt-ons, sounded good, and it had the 6 speed. However, he decided not to give her it and she got a '17 Nisan Sentra with a cvt instead. I was more pissed than she was 😭 The fact that an entry-level car could revv to 8k was so sick.
My DD is an 04 RSX Base pushing nearly a quarter million miles and still going strong 💪
Still love my 2005 Type S!
Wow!!!!! This car is still much better looking than the new 2022 integra!!! Even the pre-freshed (2002-2004) looks better than 2022 integra! Also hard to believe the horsepower of the new integra is the same as the 2002 integra lol
There's almost 50 extra pounds of torque tho
@@fugginrambo you hope so considering it’s heavier
The new Integra is technically a base model with 200 hp, compared to 160 hp in the base RSX. There will likely be a Type-S Integra coming soon, so expect it to have at least 300 hp.
@@smithsfan425 yeah that's what I was thinking, it's about 3,100 LBS compared to maybe 2,700 LBS
@@KardiFan2000 doubt a type S but possible. But the thing is that integra weighs over 3000 LBS. I currently have a 1996 Civic sedan(2200 lbs) with a b18b1 stock 145 Hp. Which can beat those 1.5t it's not horsepower it's the weight. Integra needs like 220 hp
Wish I had never crashed mine. Had an 03 type s with some bolt on mods. What a blast to drive. I beat the shit out of it and still ran like a champ.
First car I bought with my first professional job out of college back in 2003. Brand new silver Type S 6 Speed with a screaming VTEC Engine. 10 years of ownership. Miss that car everyday.
You were a young hot shot!
Dude. I remember the commercial specifically for you! You were definitely the target market. Young professional. Guy was stuck in his lousy cubicle all day then they show him on the open road in his RSX
I still miss the styling of the 1990s, but it is still a good looking car and the engine bay is clean as always.
Yeah, well it was designed in the 90s. 1998 was when this was completed.
@@jmin8400 It's still considered a 2000s car though.
@@headshotmaster138 Oh definitely. Who said it wasn't? It was designed in the 90s though into completion.
"Built on a modified version of the latest Honda Civic platform." Where have I heard that before? 😉
...in any other Integra ad...
Acutally the RSX came out first before that generation of Civic.
@@mackcummy4976 It didnt, this came out in 2001 while 7th gen civic came in 2000
@@grapecraftfactions7675 I think I meant the platform
A Type-S for only $23K! You can’t even get a base 2023 Integra for that!
This looks better than the new one. Seriously, Honda might sell more cars if they sold updated internals with old sheet metal.
Front McPherson struts was thought to be inferior compared to double wishbone suspension, in terms of handling. But it turned out Okay. McPherson suspension is much simpler and easy to work on.
911's have used Macpherson struts for decades , they work just fine .
Honda's old double wishbones are also very easy to work on.
I think its mostly Honda's implementation of the front and rear suspension that was an issue for those that track their cars that was an issue on the 7th gen Civic/RSX cars that was later fixed on the 8th gen Civic Si.
Super reliable! Awesome car! Type S is the shit!
Bought a 2006 base model 5 speed used and it still runs fantastic in 2024
Damn. it's in a retro review now. I have a black turbo RSX-S and a daily 2006 Type-S I got for $1650. It had only 130,000kms or 80,000 miles. Half the cars paint sucks but the body is rust free and no major body damage. Engine and tranny run like new. I had to clean a plug because the heated seats and and speakers weren't working.
I remember back around 2000, there were spy shots of a 200+ hp Integra Type-R. I was #3 on the list at one of the McDavid Texas dealerships for the new Type-R. Instead of a USDM Integra Type-R, the RSX Type-S showed up in 2001.
Bring it back now!
Planning to buy one premium model at 140k mileage !!
I remember when these were $4k for a nice manual one
Good times
Keeping my rsx-s forever ❤️
We need a HQ retro upload of the integra Type R John mentions here! Great review and great work on this channel!
I remember when this model came out when I was 16 I wanted one so bad!!
Just saw one of these on my way to work this morning. First one I've seen in many years. Same color as this one, too.
Other than the NSX, I've never been blown away by any Acura's designwise.
So what? The RSX has a classic design that has aged well. Sue, cars like the Celica and Tiburon are more stylized but that cuts into headroom and window views.
As an owner of a 2005 Honda Civic SI, when he showed the engine, I felt like SpongeBob when he was sitting with Gary watching the new krusty krab commercial where we see the top corner of SpongeBobs head on tv and SpongeBob is like, "look Gary that's me!!! I'm on tv!!!"
200hp on such a light car... Yummy
Still running my 06 rsx type s with over 200k miles.
My first car was a 2004 RSX Base Auto
I really love this car and how reliable it’s been, don’t think I’ll ever part with it.
Only regret was not having learned to drive stick before I bought it for a Type-S instead
Did not know Shia Lebouf was a Test Driver for Motorweek!....LOL
Thats my absolutely favorite Car.
Since Need for Speed Underground!
I'll buy it someday and style it in Itasha.
...ahhhh, I remember this time. You know, when cars were affordable. 🤑😂
I regret not buying one of these when I could have. Always liked them.
They really should have put SH-AWD on the new Integra!
I was 18 when I got this 02 rsx as a graduation gift I’m now 39 and my son now drives my rsx to high school
Awesome.
$23000 in 2002 would be about $37400 today. They would sell like hotcakes at that price! Too bad those days are long gone.
I mean you can get a base model civic for around 24k and Have the same amount of power that this have
@@Kimbrough87 yeah because the low revving, cvt transmission civic is just as fun as this high compression, 8200rpm vtec k20a2 with close ratio 6spd….
@@mattvang3439 and more fuel efficient too now with gas prices fun comes at a higher price 😉
@@Kimbrough87 fuel efficient 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 who cares
@@mattvang3439 LMAO yeah there really is no comparison.
The integra was not introduced in 94… actually almost a decade earlier…
Just sold my type s for an 8th gen si but these were a blast to drive. Really hard to find one that's not clapped out or abused nowadays
A quick, sporty and affordable car that looks good inside and out. Seems like it would be a good car for today!
