Diantha's theme is criminally underrated. I feel like people associate the song with the battle itself, which is fair enough, but take the music on its own out of context and it's one of the best.

You know, I'm surprised I wasn't scared the fuck out when Gary's Champion theme came on when I was a kid. Granted, I did it when I was under the covers with a worm light, keeping quiet, I don't know if I had headphones or not. But seriously, your rival almost maniacally declaring himself the most powerful Trainer in the world followed by a chaotic spiraling descent, finished with those stark, unnerving notes? I can see the Stravinsky influence. (For those wondering who that guy is, he's the one who wrote the piece from Fantasia with the dinosaurs. i personally think that the 1st,2nd,and 4th generation had the best themes. They share something in common, they instill a type of dread they tell you "you are fighting a world class trainer someone who is absolutely peerless" it asks the question "can you really win?" the others have a feeling of hope and overcoming something which works in it's own way but lessens the feeling of power that should radiate from a champion
I think 3rd Gen wasn't quite aiming for the "Way out of your league" thing anyway. Going up against a ridiculously powerful trainer, but having become very powerful yourself is the sort of feel you have here, as you and Steven have met multiple times before, and battled side by side. You knew him, but you didn't know his was the League Champion. To add to this, you had just stopped a calamity from occurring at the hands of a Super Ancient Pokémon.An acquaintance turned greatest opponent.
I think gen 5 aimed for a similar feel as gen 3 as well. You knew Alder and Iris before they became Champions. Hell, Iris' Champion theme sounds more like a character theme that fits her cheery attitude in the games whilst reflecting her strong will just with its own intensity.
I think that Iris' theme is also good just because of how misleading it is, you have this happy go-lucky theme which makes you think this will be just like Alder again, then BAM! Your team is swept and you're at a pokemon center!

People have talked about how the earlier ones feel more serious and more fitting for a final boss, but I think Iris' is really fitting too. It really shows how much she loves Pokemon and loves battling. Her music is a non-stop rollercoaster, and if you slow down for a second, she's going to destroy you with a smile on her face. I also think the kinda space feeling it has also makes it feel a bit like you're going against the universe, or some cosmic force. At the same time though, it also feels like a celebration of how far you've come and how strong you are now. She's inviting you to enjoy the battle with her, she wants to have an all out battle with a worthy opponent. It just really seems fitting for the series and her character.
By the way. If you haven't already I suggest you check out some of the remixes used in this mashup. There are some incredibly talented people in the pokemon remix community.

Alright Trainers here it is one last gauntlet to become grand champion of every region and be the strongest like one ever was! But first let's defeat everyone standing in the way of the goal. Grab your best team of six, your healing items, mega stones, Z stones, and whatever else you think will serve you well as this will be a hell of dozy. Starting off with Gary, then after that it's Lance, Red, Steven, Wallance, Cynthia, Alder, Iris, Diantha, and finally one last showdown with whoever thinks they topple you!.... At least that is what this theme is telling through its clever use of mixing of old and new songs as well as remixes throughout make this song the ulimate kickass champion battle theme! This theme isn't just a theme that makes the fan feel pumped this theme is the ultimate theme for conquering the impossible!
better than the other medley I watched, which did Gen 5 dirty by excluding Alder. Iris’ segment was also less then half the length of Cynthia’s, Steven’s, or Lance/Red’s, despite her actual battle theme being the longest of the champions featured (Champions from Gens 1 - 6)

Blue's Theme, Red/Lance's Theme, and Cynthia's Theme, in my opinion, had the best theme. They have this intimidating effect you, makes you wary, and effectively succeeds in instilling fear and excitement for the final battle. They just scream final boss. I didn't get that feeling at all from the other themes. But I also enjoyed Iris's theme. It sounds so fun and lively.
Ive always struggled hard when battling Cynthia. Its always the Garchonp that throws me off course. I won out of pure luck against her garchomp with a level 70 Empoleon, level 65 Luxray, level 66 Staraptor, level 80 Bibarel, level 74 Raichu, and a level 68 Clefable
a strange thing is that when they remade champion lance's theme, they slowed down a little bit. So, when you create a mashup between the gsc version with other version of the theme, you either have to, or slow down the original theme from gold siver & crystal, wich is what pepole that make mashups do, Or you speed up the remakes, wich was what you did and how i prefer.
I feel like Pokémon Company's stance towards a champion fight has changed dramatically. Gen 1-4 it was seen as the final fight before you beat the game and Gen 5 onwards it's been a fun battle for beating the game. They made champions in 5 onwards way too easy, Cynthia was the last Champion I had any trouble beating. And it shows in the music too, Gen 1-4 is serious battle and 5 onwards sounds like a fun brawl between friends rather than a fight between the best of the best. Sun and Moon just sums this up completely as the theme for the Champion fight doesn't even sound like a battle theme.
Yeah I feel like they made the challenge reserved for the evil boss leads/main antagonists, as Ghetsis, Lysandre, Lusamine, and Ultra Necrozma were probably the toughest challenges in the games.

I think Steven's theme doesn't feel like a champion theme, not as much as the others. Sure, it's good and catchy, but it's not the theme I expect when I meet the strongest trainer in the region, whose identity was a surprise if I remember correctly. Yeah it's good but it's not "Special" like the others, it's good for a boss, maybe for elite4 too but I can't see it too well for a champion. Same with Alder, but this time it's not the strongest trainer in the region, we have already beaten the league once when we face him, and there are Getchis and N who beated him before, that's why the music is good for a post game boss (and kinda suit his character too)

Meanwhile even with Diantha having Pokémon ranging from level 64 to level 68, I ended up beating her easily while I was under leveled by a lot

I think Steven's theme doesn't feel like a champion theme, not as much as the others. Sure, it's good and catchy, but it's not the theme I expect when I meet the strongest trainer in the region, whose identity was a surprise if I remember correctly. Yeah it's good but it's not "Special" like the others, it's good for a boss, maybe for elite4 too but I can't see it too well for a champion. Same with Alder, but this time it's not the strongest trainer in the region, we have already beaten the league once when we face him, and there are Getchis and N who beated him before, that's why the music is good for a post game boss (and kinda suit his character too)

Well I meant starting from 4th gen as in it goes downhill after. IDK maybe I'm biased because the last game I played was 4th gen, but the music just honestly feels generic and less memorable to me after the first 4.
I feel like Alder`s and Diantha`s theme dropped the ball hard, but I still think that Iris and the Sun & Moon themes are among the best
