Thanks for finishing this Shawn. I feel the same way you do about it: Something you’re glad to have experienced, but never to revisit. How it presents and tackles its themes of abuse and guilt makes it one of the most emotionally mature games I’ve personally played, and it was cool watching you play and have your input in it too
yeah, it's always great to see a piece of media that portrays such things with tact and consideration, it doesn't romanticize them and it doesn't pat itself on the back for "STaRtinG a COnVerSaTIon" ( cough 13 reasons why cough)
In the start of the game, James says that Mary died 3 ago, but in reality she actually got sick 3 years ago, she only died shortly before the start of the game, James suppressed the memory of himself killing her and (because he's messed up in the head) he managed to convince himself that she died 3 years ago because of the disease. Also, another angle would be that the Mary that he knew and loved died the moment she became sick, she turned into a bitter person, and like she said in her letter she "struck out at everyone, especially James", which made him resent her. James really did take her life by suffocating her by a pillow. The reason why it's shown on a tape is not because he recorded it, but it's just the power of Silent Hill (the town itself), it beckons people who are guilty of something, and confronts them with their crimes. James never read Mary's letter before he killed her, as the letter was kept by the nurse, then ended up in the hands of Laura. The ending that you got was the "In Water" ending, where James doesn't read the letter and just drives into the river. Hope this cleared some things and wasn't long winded.
Ok i hope i can give an explanation about some shit Laura Eddie Angela and James are real people who were attracted to silent hill for their own reasons . Everyone has their own little world which the town itself shows them for example Angela is seeing a burning environment to describe her pain from what her father and brother did to her .All the monsters represent things like for example Legs and the nurses represent James's sexual frustration while taking care of Mary and the mouth hands guy represents Mary's hurtful words to James and shit like that . Pyramid head tbh i dont get him but from what i have heard he acts as an executioner/judge who helps you find the truth about Mary throughout the game .In the end of the game the monsters dont attack you no more as James realizes that he had killed Mary and was not in a delusional state anymore . Why did he kill her? He was suffering from Caretaker's fatigue and did not know for how much more time it will go on. Mary is in the rearseat of the car when he arrives at silent hill. Mary's death was a week ago by the hands of James and not 3 years ago like he says. The town of silent hill attracts broken people and torments/punishes them for what they have done . This is from what i understand and i might be wrong.
One of the greatest games of all time. Absolutely loved the remaster, such a great job from all involved. I’m really glad Shawn enjoyed it and stuck through it, for a moment I thought he would’ve rage quit lol.
Alan wake 2 needs a lot of context to understand the plot. It's great but you kinda need to know about Control and the first Alan Wake to get everything.

Shawn's greatest crime in this video is not checking out the best ending of them all: dog ending.

Yo Chauncey! I appreciated these series thanks big bro
I was hoping he would react to the dog and ufo endings fully but oh well. What a wild ride tbh
He reacted to all of the endings fully on stream. I don't recall him having a really big reaction but I was also half asleep.
Shawn still doesn't believe Mary was in the backseat
That Honda accord joke killed me 2:24:30

You must want him to die 😂

Games...Stories...Characters...They're kinda lost to many in this...performative age and time, huh? A shame. Anyway.
