I love the art with which Mark paints intangible and metaphysical elements into the narration like the experience of morning service vs evening services. It's evident he's put a lot of thought into this world and he's skilled at adding these things which aren't as commonly described by DMs who are just trying to lay down plot points and get the party advancing. Also, I can totally see Rowan developing a relationship with the Magic Toad prognosticator, talking to it like to a mentor or counselor and the toad just... stares... yet he continues on, translating the silence into some profound advice that gives him peace and relief.
I wish I had half the world building and scene-setting chops that Mark has. He (along with the wonderful players) manages to make even slower, more RP-focused episodes utterly engrossing.
Quite often around Wales people are introduced by where they are from mainly to distinguish between the different Dai Jones' so you'd say something like Gruffydd Tremorrow to distinguish from Gruffydd Trederday
No reason Mark couldn't have stacked the deck. Plus, the whole point of those types of cards are that they can be made to seem as if they fit, kind of like horoscopes.
@@Kerrigore2 oh I realise that. The narrative that Mark gave them was just really suitable. He did say that the only one that he didn’t choose randomly was the artist for Daisy.

I'm very very tempted to let go of my trusty work companion whom has kept me entertained for countless hours while toiling away at customers cars, to actively start watching on a regular basis. Mark, please tell your friend that I just bought their oracle deck immediately, the second I saw you using them in this episode! I have tried to use normal tarot cards to help me with writing before (I write fantasy, very much in the vein of D&D) but tarot cards aren't really built for helping to create THESE kinds of stories. I've always wanted to find some kind of deck to help me build fantasy-based stories but all the ones I found were either sold out or entirely outside of my price range. But the Citadel Oracle Deck looks perfect for me! They will be arriving in three days!
Mark: ...the guild looks after its friends. You help us with this, then you're our friends. I'm sure we can help each other. Rowan: That sounds delightful Me: that sounds like you've invented organized crime
@3:19:06 Ah, my bad if you guys had answered it before ^_^; I must've missed it from the last stream. *immediately starts plotting Tiefling Dragonblood Sorcerer shenanigans in Altheya*
Can you folks share where the music for this episode came from? The music that plays while the party is seeing the oracle is so soothing and pleasant and I’d love to be able to listen to it while I work. ❤
I'm not sure I'm doing it right but the interwebs told me to eat a lot of dumplings and make Nian gao. I steamed the cake and Saturday we're going to try some and see if it tastes good. Gong xi, gong xi! Gong xi fa cai!
Bring me a gnoll head, you'll be able to buy bread. Stories of your good deeds will be told, while you will be swimming in gold. For the shaman, the leader of the pack, you will even get 200 gold back. for the other it is 5 platinum, so attack, and go get 'em. just something i whipped up, hope y'all like it :)
Wow, i wonder if the cards were random or if mark fixed the check. If that was improv mark is incredibly good at manipulating word and meaning. like a real Charlatan
Editing: Mark removed some cards from the deck, but then shuffled. He placed the painter in the deck specifically for Daisy, but the cards were drawn at random. Fate be with them
Playing Persona 3 Reload while listening to this and I gotta say I got about as giddy as Tom when the cards came out for Mark's worlds version of a Tarot Card reading. Also, I gotta ask did the replacing the lamps for the Lamplighter's Guild come from the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky/of Cold Steel/from Zero at all? Since all those games have magitek in their setting as well and usually have at least one quest of replacing a light.
@@lazypaladin Persona 3 Portable for the PSP was the first Persona 3 I ever played, so I am *extremely* biased. Personally, I love it because I get to see all these characters and locations in modern day graphics. *BUT* content from P3P and FES has been cut and I know that was kind of a turnoff for some fans, so I'll leave it up to you to decide.
Im surprised Gruff has a wife… he seems to orgasm over men on dragons and calls men “dreamy” It’s part of the reason I don’t think it’s a good idea to cross sex role play… most people don’t understand the opposite sex enough to do a good job
I know this is very subjective and hopefully doesn’t offend anyone , but Anyone else feel that this campaign is kind of slow and kind of sandboxy ? I love highrollers and Aerois was amazing - it was brilliant and unique throwing all the PCs together like that where they were forced to survive on cooperate and was thrilling for viewers. However, so far Altheya so far feels like the players really have to stretch for a reason to stay together and travel together without a strong something drawing them ahead and together, and that they are just kind of walking around doing errands. And I don’t mean that I’m thirsty for combat or anything, I love RP and usually skip long combats. Again much respect to the cast and I love highroller stuff, (I share, support, donate etc.) but the whole point of comments is to discuss the good and the bad with other like-minded people ❤
@@idoshulman6379 Really? That explains it then I guess, I just like stories that matter and sweep you up and carry you - it also feels more realistic and gives PCs more of a reason to unite and keep moving forward.
Gotta remember this is early in the campaign. Early Aerois barely hinted at the big bad of the campaign before episode 26, and he didn't really crystallize into a major threat until even later. Until then, the PCs just travelled around meeting NPCs, learning world lore and doing side quests. It'll be the same in Altheya; the main quest will kick in later on but until then, the party is just vibing and getting to know each other and the world.
today i learned women also get gooch holes in their clothes. for some reason i thought only men had that problem. Why DO clothes always break in that specific spot? thats so weird... like there must be a reason that's a weakpoint dur to construction
Not really keen on "Fate" in rpg campaigns. I hope HR learns from the mistakes of CR C3 and doesn't overplan and stays with the freewheeling spirit of "see where the characters want to go" rather than "lead the players by the nose."

FOR THE EMPRESS! FOR THE ALGORITHM!
Damn. Xantheus isn't trusted by any of his companions. That's hurtful.
So much lovely stuff this episode, including Kim and Gruff making me cry and laugh with their time in tower, just wonderful
Xantheas: *reveals one of daisy's secrets in this moment* "anyways, i feel like you TRUST me."
Why do I feel like Xantheus will absolutely *ruin* our emotions by the end of this??
Our Dragonborn is definitely being set up for a tragic character arc.
The rising music for Rowan's 3rd card was epic.
Mark: ...the guild looks after its friends. You help us with this, then you're our friends. I'm sure we can help each other.
Rowan: That sounds delightful
Me: that sounds like you've invented organized crime
@3:19:06 Ah, my bad if you guys had answered it before ^_^; I must've missed it from the last stream. *immediately starts plotting Tiefling Dragonblood Sorcerer shenanigans in Altheya*
Can you folks share where the music for this episode came from? The music that plays while the party is seeing the oracle is so soothing and pleasant and I’d love to be able to listen to it while I work. ❤
Ive been binging so hard i didnt even realize i wasnt subscribed. Rectified that immediately
Mark and I on the same page
I vote for The Clever Toads!!! 😄
The clever roads are a perfect name
Toads
"The veiled Pebbles" are on the case! oO
This episode is soo goood
OMG, how does she eat or drink? What if she gets a stuffy nose, how does she breathe?
I'm not sure I'm doing it right but the interwebs told me to eat a lot of dumplings and make Nian gao. I steamed the cake and Saturday we're going to try some and see if it tastes good. Gong xi, gong xi! Gong xi fa cai!
The card reading was so cool.
The Pillars of Creation is the name of a book by Terry Goodkind, I believe.
I wonder how much are dwaves' gems worth in this world.
DnD day reminds me of D-day
Bring me a gnoll head, you'll be able to buy bread.
Stories of your good deeds will be told,
while you will be swimming in gold.
For the shaman, the leader of the pack,
you will even get 200 gold back.
for the other it is 5 platinum,
so attack, and go get 'em.
just something i whipped up, hope y'all like it :)
Yay! DN D-DAY!
LETS GOOOO
Wow, i wonder if the cards were random or if mark fixed the check.
If that was improv mark is incredibly good at manipulating word and meaning. like a real Charlatan
Editing:
Mark removed some cards from the deck, but then shuffled. He placed the painter in the deck specifically for Daisy, but the cards were drawn at random. Fate be with them
Conspiracy theory: This cult of the Dragon Empress is Sovereign in disguise.
Is P3R worth it? _Weighing wether to get that or Apollo Justice Trilogy?_
@@lazypaladin Persona 3 Portable for the PSP was the first Persona 3 I ever played, so I am *extremely* biased.
Personally, I love it because I get to see all these characters and locations in modern day graphics. *BUT* content from P3P and FES has been cut and I know that was kind of a turnoff for some fans, so I'll leave it up to you to decide.
i vote in favour of the Clever Toads
Happy birthday
High Rollers: Come here for the messy intros and silly voices, stay for the hour of deeply spiritual reqdings.
Fate Dice: I send the local thieves guild to "rob" percieval
Those thieves are in for quite the surprise if they try to steal Percival's robes😂
All they'll get is a black robe and an aging pastry.
I get the feeling that Gruff's wife isnt a Wildheart.
Hence why the "fur" question was a bit personal... (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)
Im surprised Gruff has a wife… he seems to orgasm over men on dragons and calls men “dreamy”
It’s part of the reason I don’t think it’s a good idea to cross sex role play… most people don’t understand the opposite sex enough to do a good job
The Pillars of Althea? Team name?
Who is the 5th member of hat films?

"What's the colour of her fur?" Means something quite a bit different when the person is not fully covered in fur 😏
cool
Again much respect to the cast and I love highroller stuff, (I share, support, donate etc.) but the whole point of comments is to discuss the good and the bad with other like-minded people ❤
I think I heard somewhere that Mark meant this campaign to be more sandbox. I find it more fun though
To be honest I love this setting and pace, because I need a break from Critical Roll's high stakes campaign😅
@@idoshulman6379 Really? That explains it then I guess, I just like stories that matter and sweep you up and carry you - it also feels more realistic and gives PCs more of a reason to unite and keep moving forward.
@@raiankeiji6954 I don't listen to CR... I think high stakes is what makes a story work, or at least medium stakes and direction.
So many 40k parallels
Some to fantasy as well, like the slowly petrifying dwarves
today i learned women also get gooch holes in their clothes. for some reason i thought only men had that problem.
Why DO clothes always break in that specific spot? thats so weird... like there must be a reason that's a weakpoint dur to construction
as you walk the connection between the legs is pulled in 2 directions as well s there being friction
....I spent it all on gambling...
Not really keen on "Fate" in rpg campaigns. I hope HR learns from the mistakes of CR C3 and doesn't overplan and stays with the freewheeling spirit of "see where the characters want to go" rather than "lead the players by the nose."
Happy birthday Chris Trott! Welcome to old age 😂
He was welcomed to it long ago
