Joe getting 24 out of 25 possible points has got to be one of if not the most dominant single-episode performances out of a contestant on the show ever. Especially with that commanding live task at the end. And yet he still just looks a bit sad about it. What a pleasure to witness.
imo Joe and James Acaster's expressions never seemed to match what was happening around them. Sometimes happens when there's a lot going on internally (or very little haha)

I was today years old when I realized that the contestants were seated alphabetically left to right. This whole time, I just assumed that they were randomly seated, but seeing the costume challenge, I facepalmed myself for not noticing that after watching the show for over a year.
I also never noticed this... In a recent podcast episode, Alex revealed that the prize task in the very first episode of a series is also always done alphabetically. I had no idea. ^^
I was just about to say the exact same thing. Nice of Alex to call attention to his little designs before we end up not realizing until season 12 or something.

Well joe did go to cambridge and even he read history or some art major he was a math tutor. Being a fan of joe since the in betweeners many years ago i feel kinda proud to see the percentage of the comments here about joe
I didn't catch it the first time through, but last episode with the ping pong ball herding, Lou remarked "you know sometimes your little finger isn't as powerful as you think." Clearly having done this task previously.
I know there's a lot of Joe Thomas to appreciate in this episode, but don't sleep on his adorable prize collection behind the credits! Eating the jello, putting the dog slipper down the slide, and especially a little demonstration of just how slippery his soap his, which he then feels visibly self-conscious about!
It's amazing that this live task is the only task in the whole show where Joe Thomas could both show he's a literal genius and also utilise this to win.
It may have been my imagination, but I feel like Greg had a slightly different vibe this episode. He seemed almost 2% more human than usual (as opposed to being the cold and maniacal host). It’s interesting 🤩
I appreciate the irony of Greg making a large statement that Alex puts way more effort into these tasks than "randomly guess where the apple is" then having the studio task be "If you don't know the answer to the question, randomly guess where the apple is"
That's what I though too, but in his defense apparently most of them didn't realize "pink lady" is an apple until they uncovered at least one or two apples.

i'm not entirely sure why people are praising him so much for it. 100-19 is 81, Greg gave more than enough time to calculate that, and when you see 81 you KNOW you're dealing with a multiple of 3. So you don't really have to do any math stuff at that point

It's not really math if you just remember the answers without calculation, is it? But for really big numbers, there is a trick: if you add up all digits in a number and the sum is divisible by 3, then the whole thing is also divisible by 3. For example, 3241647415769: 3+2+4+1+6+4+7+4+1+5+7+6+9=51, which is divisible by 3, so the whole thing also is

i'm not entirely sure why people are praising him so much for it. 100-19 is 81, Greg gave more than enough time to calculate that, and when you see 81 you KNOW you're dealing with a multiple of 3. So you don't really have to do any math stuff at that point

The question could have been 100-19 divided by 20, at which point the answer is 4 (rounded down). It was impressive, he had it in almost a second or two of hearing 27. Fuck all to do with knowing it was 81. Now if you'd said "as soon as he heard the number was 27" then fair enough but 21, 22, and 23 would have been 4 (rounding up).
@@Yattien89 well, i learned the multiplication table for numbers 1-10 back in 3rd grade, and it's stuck with me forever. It's not really math if you just remember the answers without calculation, is it?
But for really big numbers, there is a trick: if you add up all digits in a number and the sum is divisible by 3, then the whole thing is also divisible by 3. For example, 3241647415769: 3+2+4+1+6+4+7+4+1+5+7+6+9=51, which is divisible by 3, so the whole thing also is
