In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.
The constant cuts to joe's stupefied face to literally anything kills me everytime. But I love him
I want a montage of his expressions. Joe is so dear to me now, hahahaha
You know how Joe Lycett had the secret task and he had to smile at the camera? We need a reprise of that with this Joe
I love Lou's (and Greg's, and Alex's) face while Joe is waffling on about his window in the prize task.
I love him too.
But I hate that word. Stop it.
@@pleasestopsayingliterally2572 Have you heard of prescriptivism? Who are you, the English police? Lol
Joe looked more alive talking about the window than anytime else in the show
Possibly because he was in a show about window salesmen 😂 (White Gold - look it up, i recommend::))
Well there's that one time in the entertain a kid task too
Because he plays a character, otherwise.

i keep thinking about paul's tiny face in the phone booth and laughing out loud at random times😭😭
Just reading this comment made me laugh all over again.
I'm like that but with Rob Beckett getting annoyed at Sara Pascoe during the series 3 finale.
That moment has straight up ruined my life, but also finally gave me purpose. Amazing
It’s terrifying that he was a doctor.
Tiny face?
The way Sian just instantly goes for the hug when Greg comes over to show their height difference... she is too precious for this world.
And she's wearing heels!
This...plus..."I could dress as Cinderella"
Joe's reactions look like he's pretending he understands English
Brilliant.
Omg you’re so right. That’s exactly how I look if a welsh person is talking to me
This comment made me absolutely cackle. You’re so right.
I mean, arent we all just pretending? Nobody really "understands" English.
This is so right it's haunting.
"Jacking?"
"Nein Queen!"
I have to say, Paul Sinha is really growing on me.
He's my favorite "underdog you know will lose anyway (and probably an Asian man)".
He is never boring.
Imagining Germans in a weird story is a great memory technique. I once used it to memorize the prefix of the AACS signing key. The German woman who ran a gambling establishment had said no when Dee asked for more credit, and he responded,
"Oh, 'Nein?' F*** 'Nein.' Won one or two!" == 09F91102
She countered, "Nein, Dee." and then turned to the other three players at the card table, adding "it's even for ye' three, if I've bee." as she pointed at the famous bumblebee sculpture she was known for. == 9D74E35B
Since he hadn't won anything playing cards, he couldn't afford to buy his girlfriend. "Dee ate for one" == D841.
I once told the odd story at an open mic night, and then explained it to the audience, then explained to the audience that their brains were now illegal content protection circumvention devices under the DMCA, as long as they remembered any of the story of Dee that bad gambler.
I think he meant Ja King(as in Yes King) because he was going for German and then the nine means no like you have it. Very cleaver.
but that's not what he said... he would've just said 'ja king' if that's what he meant, but he said "jacking?" but I think you mean *clever! hopefully...
Everyone losing it at the clip of Paul in the phone booth is one of my favourite moments in the entire show.
He looked like a kid that had snuck off behind the couch to eat a chocolate bar.
@@RealBradMiller oh that's such a good description 😆
Joe thomas playing around with the record player and his little “MM get together MMM MM” has solidified him in the top spot in my heart. Our himbo
@@johnDoe-uw2zs Oi oi Oi Oi Oi
@@johnDoe-uw2zs I never saw any interviews or other programmes with him, is it really that crippling? His extreme self consciousness I mean, cause sometimes I want to say it's a character but damn is it a good one if it is!
@@Adrianovaz2007 You should listen to his episode in Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster it's one of the weirdest (in the best way) episodes
@@eliengelling8822 i remember that episode, it was weird indeed! I remember James saying the podcast was his first time meeting Joe, so Ed just sat back and enjoyed James getting more and more confused by Joe’s existence haha
@@Adrianovaz2007 inbetweeners!
Joe Thomas looked so crushed that he didn't get to finish his pitch for the window. You can see he's CLEARLY going through the rest in his head that he had planned to say. He was obviously going to go for the meta joke about the window being such a "see through" attempt and so obvious, etc.
Greg's genuine reaction to Joe's 'mm get together' was just awesome, I've rewatched that part so many times.
I want that single!
It’s truly amazing how far he retracts his head into his collar like a tortoise in shock.
Not every season has a clear leader but somehow every single season seems to have one really trailing competitor. I'd be more interested to see a Loser of Losers episode/season than a Champion of Champions episode/season.
Yup, me too
paul is the most hilarious of the lot
@@pixlfinch1091 I dunno. Joe Wilkinson and the potato...
@@jzthompson9598 Hugh Dennis was pretty amazing as well. He and Phil often seemed to get penalized for no reason.
and two of the losers are poc named paul for some reason. clearly they would be put together for the team tasks
I was mesmerized by Paul's attempt to name the cards in order
Me too 😱🤩
It's a known memory trick that you can more easily remember cards if you make a situation with them. His example was brilliant. Back in college, I had a teacher that would make us practice memorizing things, and his trick was simply to picture yourself walking on a beach and seeing the things you were supposed to memorize. The brain is a funny thing.
@@imbillb Kind of like a mind palace 🤩
So was I.

Paul in the box at 14:04 is one of the all-time great moments of this season.

right?? I was already thinking he's really gone rogue with the points this season, lots of ties - not that it ever really made sense that the team tasks add up to 5, but that was supposed to be how it was done
@@just-tess Greg was pretty generous woth points this series, sometimes annoyingly.
When Greg holds his mouth while bursting out laughing tells you that he's found something genuinely funny. And it was. Mhh get together mhh mhh..
Greg putting Joe on the spot to come up with a song and Joe going "mm mm get together" is one of my favorite moments in all of taskmaster
If there was a task for me that says "fall in love with Joe Thomas, you have the entirety of Series 8" then I think I'm currently in the lead
i get a bonus point for being in love with him while he was on the inbetweeners, so i win the challenge and take home the prizes
I’d give you a good run for your money.
don't be so sure.....
It was love at first sight, I win.
Your time starts now!
“So you’re challenging the man but you’re also heavily corporate.” sfhjhfsf i laughed way more than i should
Was Sian’s post-goal celebratory run a longer screaming distance than when she had to run, screaming (uninterrupted), for a task?
Hahahaha probably
Very likely.
Joe has no right to show up week after week looking so cute and befuddled. None at all.
And his actual anger at that Vernon Howard book just makes me love him so much more.
@@MrLador he may look confused all the time but Joe can sus out a grifter when he sees one
Joe has squirreled into all of our hearts and has curled up there, quite comfortably.
the RELIEF i get every time i look at these episodes' comment sections and realize I'm not the only one who finds his befuddlement weirdly attractive.
@@400Lux The Taskmaster comment section is rarely horny, but when we lose it, we lose it. Joe ended us, and Mike and Sarah in series 11 is the only other time I've seen something similar. There was a bit for Acaster, but nothing on this level.
Joe's always making a face that's as if he's at the checkout at the grocery and the cashier has just given him a total that's double what he thought it would be; "I'm sorry that can't be right, did you ring some things up twice?'

Watch Greg strut down the corridor at 21:00, you'll see how that giant man has to duck for each doorway and avoid the lightshade.
Considering its his house he really should have had the ceilings raised.
It looks like they did cut out a chunk of the ceiling going from the entry way into the hall
It was rented.
@@hypsyzygy506 yeah but the bit is he lives there
As far as character archs go, I really like how much the chemistry between Sian and Joe changed, compared to the first episode, and how Iain tries to be more team oriented and keep his competitiveness down, since he's seen himself being a dick.
the recording are all made on the same days, they dont get to see them doing the task until months after the day at their house
the tasks are shot in the 8 weeks prior to the studio shows.
I agree that Lains in-studio dickishness has definitely toned down since viewing the hammock incident. Which is good because it was really hurting the season
@@rmv500 i legitimately almost had to stop watching it was so bad but i'm glad i kept going
Im on the same page. The way he treats people and his genuine anger over the smallest things turned me off completely. Almost skipped this series because of it l but ultimately i want to stretch my unwatched TM out as much as possible so I tone him out 100% of the time. He's the ONLY contestant so far that i don't like. There's been "angry" contestants in the past, but for them it came from a loving/joking place.
"Then there was a picture of a scumbag."

"Because I wanted a goddamn pen, Greg."

It's so weird to see Greg in the actual Taskmaster area. Plus he has to duck for every door he's walking through. 😂
13:05 can we all appreciate how Paul is totally impervious to cold weather. Just standing there in a t-shirt while everyone else are in winter jackets.
Sian and Joe are making a great pair! It was awkward at first, but they are definitely on the same wavelength. Easily one of my favorite teams of the show so far!

This episode had so many of my favorite moments in the series and even more good moments.
"MMH get together MMH MMH get together" and its perfect repetition by Joe and the addition by Sian had me tearing up with laughter, Joe and Sian just happily chilling directly before doing the album cover task was so adorable, Iain and Sian but especially Joe and Paul being so unexpectedly good at the card memorization task, and everyone laughing together about wee little Paul peeking out in the telephone box, truly mesmerizing episode. I think I gained 4 days back to my lifespan just by watching this.
"Currently Now, Now is Currently" is this Series' "Without Moving the Fishbowls"
Or every other task that Osman read :p
😂😂😂
I already saw a Mel Giedroyc situation coming when Sian laid down in the phone box
Joe lifting up the goal and shaking it alone was worth the bonus point... And the albumn cover package Sian and Joe did was great too. I declare him the clear "red elf shot the food" winner of the episode! (Like that matters. 😉)
Joe makes me feel many, many things that I cannot find names for
Me too....
oh i can name them all honey hahah
The word you’re looking for is “thirsty.”
Paul Sinha's phone booth attempt is somehow a perfect visual analogue of me writing my dissertation.
How’s the dissertation going?
done yet??
Iain's reaction to Greg saying that he's just brought in a fridge was absolute gold.
Lou really nailed that live looroll task. I guess that's just how the lou rolls
Underrated comment
I groaned and gave you an upvote. Well done.
Paul's memorization technique is legit, making some kind of story or narrative in your head is the best way to remember small specific sequences of things. I can memorize long strings of numbers by converting them to words that rhyme with those numbers and then making a little story or scene in my mind using those words.
19:42 Sian's insane giggle. You gotta love her. So many times, but here, especially.
the way it's edited it looks like greg is making that sound which i love even more
Seeing Sian make\celebrate that goal... was the BEST of the season....

That's probably the most emotional range Joe has shown up until now.
And after seeing 19:40 this is his episode.
Realizing with every episode that I’m a Joe Thomas engaged to an Iain Stirling, and neither of us are sure why that works.
So you're somebody who's confused all the time, no matter what happens, engaged to somebody who is always overly competitive in the funniest way?
@@RickyRatte I must say I did make Joe’s face at 19:04 when I realized your comment’s accuracy, spot-on both of us lol
nothing is more embarrassing than Iian dragging over the big goal only to miss the shot
I knew it was coming. It was just such a wonderful Taskmaster moment.
If he had placed the big goal adjacent to the smaller one rather than in front he would have had even more available goal area...
...and why did he only bring in one extra goal?
Or he could have broken the goal an placed one goalpost at each side of the field.
@@hypsyzygy506 I was thinking the same - why didn't he put the goals next to each other??
When Lou suggested “yes please we like music” as the band name I really thought they had a winner.
Greg becoming more and more exasperated by Alex's bizarre humor is beautiful.
I’m guessing that Joe is a bit of a socially anxious and awkward introvert, which kind of explains why he becomes more comfortable over time or randomly with expressing himself. Apologizing immediately after doing something outside your normal comfort zone is also a classic anxious introvert characteristic.
Yeah as someone who's all of the above, watching Joe is like looking in a mirror
People talk about how remarks about being too close are prophetic, but to me, Paul's pyjama outfit is the most ahead-of-its-time thing. Paul's outfit is my outfit for the year, basically. And i never want to go back. I want to wear pyjamas forever. Be comfortable forever. I won't put on jeans! I won't! I won't!
JOE HAS UNCOVERED HIS ABILITY TO BULLSHIT! It's really fun to see him find his groove, especially together with Sian
We should all take note of the fact that at 4:50 when Greg and Sian demonstrate their extreme height disparity, Sian is wearing 3-inch heels.
I have to wonder if Sian forgot about the "celebration" part of the task, and that screaming and running around after scoring her goal was just spontaneous? 😂
Sian should have gotten more in the prize task this is THEFT
Clearly
@@elftax Greg wasn't _transparent_ with the points...
She shoulda brought vodka ✔️✔️
For real mate, I was thinking the same thing
A straightforward five points to Sian for that gin, if I was judging.
Ah I see you have reserved the next 45 minutes of my life.
Pauls little face in the phone box will always make me happy. ALWAYS!
The fact Joe played a Window salesman in a show called White Gold, adds so much extra context to him trying to sell the window to Greg as his PT.
Has anyone else noticed that Joe mimics Ian during the intro everytime? Whatever Ian does when he's introduced, Joe does the same thing.
I’m looking back at all the episodes now cuz I’m fascinated but I think it only started from this episode
What about a Stage Task where all 5 contestants have to hide under cans, there are 10 available to hide under, all numbered. The curtain falls so Greg cannot see who hides under what can. 1 contestant chooses which to hide under. If Greg calls out the right can, you're out and the can stays, but if Greg calls out the wrong can, you stay and the can goes. Start with enough time for them to easily get under a can, then as they get eliminated give them less and less time to hide. This keeps going until there as many cans as contestants. At that point they all pick a can quickly and hide under, Greg calls out all but 1 cans, the winner is the one hidden under the can Greg doesn't call out.
I LOVE THIS IDEA OMG

Ngl I don't know what it is, i'm generally not attracted to older women, but sian can get it
Fucking creepy
Jo Brand, never liked Jo Brand, in 30 years she's only ever joked about two things - not being able to turn down food and how much her husband annoys her.
I’m rewatching this a year later, and I just realized that Lou was able to pull her loo roll so quickly because her paper was on top of Joe’s paper, which reduced the friction.
I noticed that this time too! she had the least distance to cover so could've won anyway if she didn't break it - wish she hadn't though, the gloating is getting old...

33:45 and that's where Alex got the idea for the task to make the longest continuous noise while running ...
SO happy Sian won but DAMN IF I WASN'T SCREAMING FOR JOE TO TAKE A WIN 😭😭
Watching this series a 2nd time and never realized how much greg is clearly messing with iain with the rewarding of points 😂😂
Watching Sian and Joe makes me wish I was there because they just seem like fun to be around. Watching Lou, Iain, and Paul makes me wish I was there so I could take poor Paul out for a nice dinner or something.
I would have given Sian the bonus point for best goal celebration tbh
It was the only, actual, honest, Goal celebration, both at first, and in the extended "celebration", I would have given it to her just for holding that screaming note for so long, all the way to the next field, Sian has Lungs!
Can't beat the running squee when it comes to goal celebrations.
Two weeks in a row; I guess these are just on Wednesday now!
Its actually probably because they’re doing hometasking again
I may be mistaken but I think, when they started showing these weekly, it was on Wednesdays and at some point they switched to Thursdays.
Probably brexit
Joe's befuddled cutaway at 2:17 is priceless.
I think sian's giggle has some higher pitch notes in it, but we can't hear it because of the human pitch limit of 20kHz...
Forgot about it until today but I saw this episode live, was sat in the front row and Alex gave me the final task card, still have it.
I'm deeply impressed that for the little transition skit to the telephone box task, at 6:17, the production crew bothered to film the box at different angles so it has the correct angles when edited together in less than a second's worth of footage. You guys are artisans.
