The turbo cannot disintegrate and go through the engine as the intercooler that will catch all the debris, remove the exhaust downpipes and see if you can free of the turbo by spinning it, if it free's off try and start the engine with both upper intercooler pipes disconnected, a seized turbo will give you the exact symptoms you are experiencing. Turbo replacement is not a engine out job.

I bought a LandRover Freelander back in the early 2000s and it had three new engines under warranty in the first year. Over the next couple of years most of the rest was replaced, gearbox, transfer box, suspension, fuel pump, clutch and driveshafts. Never again.

Looking forward to the off-road videos! Own an LC100 Cruiser in Lexus guise (2006 4.7 V8) and an L322. People ask me why two off-road luxo SUVs, but they are both so different and special in their own ways, I get a lot of joy from both.

For your rear wheel arch you will notice rear half has rubber protective strip but front doesn't. Trick is to buy freelander front wheel arch rubbers and they fill the exposed metal area with a
Bit of the freelander trim cut to size. I fitted these after cleaning up the surface rust treating it and painting then covered in grease and slipped the trims on so stones flying forward don't chip the paint. Both mine had issues with parasitic battery drain so I fitted a second battery in the boot with a kit while I tracked down the drain issue. So it started up when I wanted every time.

The 4.2L petrol engine is a supercharged V8, not a twin-turbo setup like the 3.6 TDV8. As a result, it avoids many of the complications associated with turbochargers, such as:
    Soot buildup.
    Diesel particulate filter (DPF) backpressure.
Oil flow issues related to turbo lubrication.

  • @RafeAbrook
    @RafeAbrook 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Gutted for you, but I bought my 3.6 purely on the back of a £4500 receipt for new turbos only 20k previous. That said, the 4.4 diesel also has it's own issues! But yes fantastic machines when running!

    • @DrivenPlus

Very rare a 3.6tdv8 kills the engine with a blown turbo. Take intake pipes off and try to start it again.
Also, avoid london turbos pal, you will be changing them again in 2 months on a TDV8 😢

The 4.4 TDV8 and sdv8 is the best engine. But no engine is absolute 100% bomb proof. I like L322s Right now but I’m currently looking to change my car and considering around 2016-2016 sdv8. Key with them though is servicing and not to cheep out on parts. I’ve been fortunate to own 2 of them in the past the best one was the 4.4 tdv8. And the over one was a 2007 supercharged but the gear box blew and was becoming uneconomical to repair. But I’m in need for the business a decent 4x4 and run about.

Brother had a Range Rover , previous owner had a new engine installed by the main dealer, after a month the new engine also failed thankfully under warranty but had to Wrangle to get it resolved,

    3300 good buy.
Turbo blown, happens on 3.6 tdv8 because they get too hot where they are located, not sure what the remedy is to that.
Avoid London turbos, try falcon turbos in Sheffield, or maybe darkside in preston.
Love the l322, lot of car, little money, even with new engine you are still 5.5k in, and tbh if you can wrench yourself you may have saved the engine by just replacing turbos.
    Good luck.

Rubbish!, Turbos on diesels dont get hot at all!
Turbos fail from of lack of oil changes, Not getting warmed up and cooled down.. 350 thousand ks on my original 3.6 turbos no issues. Some people say they fail more on sports because of heat / small engine bay but its the morons that drive the way they do and dont maintain them

I have given up on Landrover after many years and various vehicles in there range, the only engine I never had problems with was the 300TDI , the newer they got the more problems I got with them, I wish you luck with yours and hopefully when sorted you will get some trouble free motoring.

You need a good indie specialist for the engine swap. Someone like Greyhill 4x4. I replaced cracked turbos in a TDV6 Disco3 twice because non specialist shops could not get all the brackets mounted correctly, leaving turbos vulnerable to the engine shifting on it's mounts. LR products are like abusive girlfriends; helluva ride when they're running, nightmare stress and expense. All your mates 0:05 can see it, and are telling you to stop. But you cannot help yourself! There's only one cure for Land Rover fanciers, and its protracted, painful and expensive. I hope you're not friends with Polish Mario; never mix biz and mates if you wanna stay mates....

I wouldn't have one as a gift. All of these modern, luxury cars seem to have terrible engine issues. You see "family saloons" still running well withh 200k on the clock. Vehicles with large, unstressed engines like range rovers and jaguars should lap up that mileage with ease.
