  • Here's a true gem from yesteryear! It's the 1984 season finale with the Redskins playing for the NFC East title at RFK Stadium -- against the St. Louis Cardinals?!?
The Cardinals of the 80's were memorable for being totally unmemorable. Other than a post-season spot in the generously wide open '82 "Super Bowl Tournament", the Cardinals never got close to the playoffs - except for this season. '84 was a four-team race for the NFC title that went down to the wire. The Redskins and Cowboys were there, of course, along with the up-and-coming Giants and these unexpected Cardinals. Washington disposed of the Cowboys in a thriller the week before, and the Giants had faded to wild card position. That left Washington and St. Louis to battle for the NFC East crown. The 10-5 Redskins had clinched at least a wild card spot, but it was win or go home for the 9-6 Cardinals, who had upset the Redskins once already this season.
The Redskins looked like they had this one in the bag by halftime, but the crafty Cardinals staged quite a comeback in the second half, setting the stage for last unforgettable last-second drama. Art Monk set the single season record for receptions in this one, to add to the magic.
To make the moment perfect, we have Pat Summerall and John Madden on the call from roaring RFK (the only Redskins-Cardinals match-up they called in their historic 20-year run). This one's a bit longer than usual, but so much happened in this unforgettable game, hd to try and include it all.

I remember running out of my house screaming with joy when the Cardinals missed that last second field goal, Several of my neighbors joined me and we danced in the street.

A redesigned Redskins logo introduced in 1972 was proposed by Walter Wetzel, a former Blackfoot tribal chairman and past president of the National Congress of American Indians, and was modeled after the likeness on the Buffalo nickel.

I was only 4 years of age and I just know the city was buzzing after this thriller. Some quick takeaways are… Art Monk was a huge WR and a filthy route runner, Joe Gibbs had nerves of steel, Neil Lomax had no conscious throwing the ball (gun slinga) and Roy Green was a nightmare

When Theismann was on honestly, my opinion, there was nobody better and yes, I am a Redskin fan, but I’m not throwing shade our way. I’m old enough to appreciate the glory days. I’ve been a fan from birth. Tell death yes for the last 20 to 23 years they’ve been horrible, but if anybody knows anything you can thank Mr. Snyder for that, he knows he did wrong. Why do you think he lives in London now because every Redskin fan wants his nuts on the shelf he destroyed one the most colorful franchises in NFL history not only was he a horrible owner. He is just a very bad person. He does bad things and he thinks that he is above everybody even feeling entitled I’m guessing. At first when he bought the team and then we got the stadium. It seemed everything was in place to keep on going after old man passed away, but I can say for the first time since Mr. Cook left us. I feel that we have the right people where they should be we have football people where football people should be, not a bunch of men anyway Theismann in his prime was a fucking awesome quarterback and just take a look at RFK not a better place in the league to play a game

Cardinals always play hard and washington was lucky but the Cardinals know how to beat Dallas.

It's a shame the woke brigade has ruined this team and atmosphere for good.
