  • Finally my 50/50 tyres have arrived. Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR. These tyres are still V rated to 149mph so not detrimental to performance on the motorways. Which is very good for a 50/50 street v dirt orientated tyre. Lets see how they handle!

    10500 km with my Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires on my Tiger 900 GT & i love them. Really sticky on asphalted roads; great for riding, for cornering, sportively in twisties; Very good for gravel roads & for dry forest roads; i will definitely buy another set when they will be dead.

      @@calummccreath2345 in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR ; in our sizes 17 inches rear & 19 inches front wheel: they are fantastic tires. On Highway, on dry & on wet asphalt (thanks to soft compound and Silica), on twisted roads, on gravel roads, … I love them so much so i keep buying them for my Tiger 900 GT. I am on my second full set & i already bought a third rear tire to be ready next summer when i will need a new one. I just don’t understand why those great tires are not more popular!?!?

      Cheers mate and yes that was the plan.. hybrid SR ADV.. all the trimmings dripping with tech but the lean and a little more rugged look of the SAR. Spoke rims possibly in the future. I will never be doing hard core log crossing long distance off road runs.. so I dont need the full SAR with the suspension etc.. Stronger rims though would be beneficial though. For sure we should catch up at some point!

    Good looking bike. I enjoyed my 18' 1090 adventure R quite a lot, but it was not meant to ride in the rain. Looked hard at a 21' 1290S but came across a steal of a deal on a 2020 R1250RT demo in white, no less, with all the bells and whistles. I will always love the V-twins though. So much fun to hotrod around on.

      Hello there! And thanks yeah love the bike and the look. It’s quite a well sorted machine. But with a few quirks nothing major. Sounds like you know the engine and totally agree. That vtwin grunt is quite special. Awesome and fun to ride around. Sorry to hear about your warm weather KTM. Quite odd to have an R version that you couldn’t use in the rain 🤦‍♂️.

    Hi Ric
    After 9600km, it was time to change the Mitas which are very good tires but little bit less on wet roads. I had no clear idea regarding some new tires for the 1290 SAS. I saw the Scorpion Rallye in your vidéo and the look was really great on the 1290 😋 I read some tests and comments were good too.
    I have now Scorpion Rallye since yesterday and it is a very good surprise. First km was little bit strange with the steering but after some km more, the behavior is very good and even on wet roads. Very impressive 👍 Let try off road but it is a very good choice. Thanks Ric

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya Austro!! Excellent to hear you went for the str rally! Yes I agree the first few km the front feels a little strange. But after it’s worn a little it feels just like any other tyre. You can even push them quite hard into bends with no nasty feedback or squirm that you’d normally get with block pattern treads. A really good all round tyre. And yes even wet weather very good grip all things considered. I’m doing a 500km two day off road rally next weekend… I’ll have some feedback on the tyres after that as well as a vid on the rally itself hopefully. Going with someone that is on a SAR so should be quite interesting SAR and SAS together on a rally 👍
      Anyway great to hear from you and the tyre choice !!

    Got 6k miles out a set of the STR's on my old Tracer. Awesome tyres, loads of confidence and handle surprisingly well for something that aggressive looking. Doubt we will get that mileage on the SAS but will be interesting to see your thoughts. Half tempted with the Anakee Adventure's myself. Only negative with the STR's was fitting... that side wall is ridiculously stiff haha. Nice vid Ric!

      Hiya Sam yeah I will do a review further down the line. I am pretty hard on my tyres unfortunately so not sure how long these will last as they are pretty soft. And do a lot on tarmac (all on tarmac at the moment). But its a play toy so its fine with me having these on. The handle really well so far I love them and at the moment will ber my go to defualt tyre I think !!!! I dont like the anakees personally as they are quite noisey (on my tiger) and drove me up the wall. Might be different on the SAS though.

I love them but yet to ride in the rain. I will be doing a full review on these once more miles and conditions have been run. The Scorpion Rally STR are V rated (149mph).. yes I know I wont be hitting 149 often. But I wonder given the increased performance rating - I bet they would last longer on Tarmac for this reason too? To be fair the Wales 500 rally I did on the STR's were absolutely fine. And dont think I would need bigger gaps or blocks. The main think for me is outright performance with the ability for "some offroad"
      It was great doing a two day rally and finishing with a three hour ride home but still be able to ride it like a superbike. on tyres that felt like very little compromise!

    I have no intention of going off-road, so it'll be ME1 when the OE tyres need replacing.

      Metzelers! cant go wrong there. To be honest I have recently aquired my old tiger 800 back (my first one). already 105k miles so have that for mainly commuting now and general hauling on roads.. Ive stuck the STR's on the 1290 as its now become my recreational bike. Touring Holidays/Biker runs with mates/light trail riding. So these STRs are great (so far anyway)

    These are nice handling tires both on and off road. They make a nasty hum noise between 75-85. The rear flats easy. They rip in the middle...not repairable. Total nightmare. This is not a good tire for the BMW 1250 GSA unless you ride really slow in the dirt. They are not tough... Sad, because I like how they ride.

      170/60/R17 72V - This is the V rated tyre (149mph). There are lower rated ones so make sure you buy the right ones if you want to retain performance.

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello mate. No not at all there are a lot of stuff made in china. If you Google them many others have no different experience. All should be fine. To be fair most bike manufacturers have parts made in china of some sorts. There is rarely anything without a Chinese made component. If we compare china and the UK. China has an advanced space program, mobile phones pretty much as good as most iPhones, build islands in the ocean as big as cities, build bridge building equipment than can span gorges… and a huge manufacturing industry.. I’d say in most part your pretty ok.
