  • It's a Dyson battle with the Dyson V8 vs. V11 in this side-by-side comparison. Is the V11 worth the money? Or tried and true V8 the way to go? Let's find out.

    6:51 Summary
    You Should Buy the #Dyson V8 If You…
    Want the Fluffy cleaning head - If you primarily vacuum hardwoods or if you frequently find yourself cleaning large debris spills, the Fluffy cleaning head can be a nice addition. This head is only available on the Dyson V8 Absolute and is not available on any of the Dyson V11 models.
    Want great cleaning performance - On average, the Dyson V8 model still scored 95% overall. Despite the slightly less powerful suction, I was still very impressed with the cleaning performance of the V8.
    Want a lower price - If you’re driven strictly by dollar signs, you’ll be happy to know that the cost of the Dyson V8 is about half that of the Dyson V11.
    You Should Buy the Dyson V11 If You…
    Want a digital display screen: The V11 is the only current Dyson model that offers the digital display screen. This is a bleeding edge feature, allowing you to quickly change cleaning modes and see estimated remaining run time.
    Want stronger suction: Compared to the V8, the V11 offers stronger suction, maxing out at 185 AW. (The V8 maxes out at 115 AW.) This is the highest level of suction in any cordless stick vacuum we’ve reviewed to date (or that we’re even aware of), putting the suction on par with many full size upright vacuums.
    Want intelligent suction: The intelligent suction is a nice addition to the V11, allowing the run time to stretch even further and also allows the vacuum to run quieter when additional power and suction is not needed.

If anything the v8 will make a great garage vacuum to quickly clean out the car if id like to graduate to something pricer in the future. the v11 will eventually be the full house vacuum. I got V8 type Dyson vacuum that I have had for years. Once I replaced the battery. The bin is more difficult to empty and when it's worn it can open while cleaning dumbing all the dirt on the floor. Also the battery life is not sufficient for larger homes. I don't want to use a corded vacuums anymore. So I am looking forward to gettin a V11 or newer. More battery life, larger bin, easier bin to empty, new and better heads are all reasons to switch to the bigger size.

    Thank you for a great comparison. A couple of questions: Do you need the fluffy head and di dyou say it doesn't come with the V8 animal? Also, if we're planning to go from a predominantly carpet home to tile and hardwood, would the V8 still handle the house or is it worth considering the newer v11?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't "need" the fluffy heading with any vacuum, as the multi-surface cleaning head can be used on all floor types. However, it's definitely a nice to have, especially if you have mostly hard surfaces.
      And you are correct, V8 Animal does not include the fluffy.
      Given its age, I wouldn't buy the V8. While the V11 may be a bit overkill, especially since it doesn't include the soft roller head, the V10 Absolute does. Given your needs I would suggest the V10 Absolute for you - amzn.to/3mDeF3k

    I was wondering if you can answer wish one (between this 2 models or any dyson model) has the best rolling suction for hair. Like is any of those able to not get the hair stuck between the brushes? That’s my problem with all my vacuums, since we are 5 woman’s in the house there’s a lot of hair on the floor all the time and it get stuck on my vacuum rolls.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my experience, every vacuum with a brushroll is going to eventually tangle hair...it's just how much and when.
      As far as Dyson goes, in general, they do a really nice job of prolonging your time before you'll see a tangle. With only my wife in our home, our Dyson's don't get put to the same test as your house will be with 5 women.
      That said, the Dyson V11 is going to do better than the V8 due to the larger and more advanced brushroll, in addition to more suction. I would say it is arguably the best brushroll Dyson makes.

    I am contemplating either the V11 or V8. I had one of the original Dyson upright vacuum cleaners which finally died on me after 15+ years. I have some hard floors and 4 carpeted bedrooms. I live in an area with a lot of dust and sand. Which model would you recommend that will really suck the dust out of the carpets? Because of lockdown etc,, I can't go to a store to look and check out the models - which means I will have to buy on-line. Very hesitant to do this - but no choice! Thanks in advance for help and suggestions.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Go with the V11. It's such a massive improvement over the V8, it's really hard to recommend the V8 or anything older any more.
      V11 has a longer run time, more suction, a larger bin, better usability features, and just in general is a massively improved machine. Given how well you seem to take care of your vacuums (in that your last one lasted 15 years), I think it's a no brainer that the V11 is the right choice for you.

    I spoke with Dyson UK and they offer the V11 absolute. Said they will probably offer it in the states soon enough but that the fluffy roller head from the V10 is the same roller they offer for the V11 absolute. You don't get the auto power sensor like you do with the torque drive but you don't even get that with the V11 absolute fluffy head.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In theory, yes.
      They use the same connector, so it will run. However, my feeling is that the V8 isn't powerful enough to properly and fully drive the V11 cleaning head due to the difference in their motor performance.

    Hi. Thank you for the review. I currently have a V8 and love it. I'm thinking of getting a second cordless for our home. Is the V11 gentle on nice rugs? The V8 seems strong enough for what we need it for and I know it doesn't hurt our rugs, so I was just wondering if you could comment on the V11 since I know it has a different head and stronger suction. Thank you!

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think it would be. In Eco mode the V11 is less suction than the V8. And if you open the gate on the cleaning head that will keep the suction seal to a minimum.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both have a 2 year warranty.
      As far as longevity goes, we just don't have enough time elapsed on the V11 to really say. We bought it when it launched in March 2019, thus far it's still working great, no obvious signs of deterioration.
      Regarding the V8, the one we frequently test in our videos is borrowed from a friend of Modern Castle. The friends we borrow it from use it as their day to day vacuum and have had it for 3 years. Overall, they love it, it continues to work great, and no issues with the battery.
      If we see any longevity issues come up I'll be sure to make a post on our website and probably updates here also.

      I’m a Dyson sales rep. Speaking as an individual (not as Dyson) my experience has been that the v11 has been the most reliable cord-free vacuum model by far. a lot of changes were made after the v10 which has made the vacuum much more reliable and easier to repair if necessary. I have never seen a v11 battery go blank in my years in the role, the only problem I have has is the trigger spring being dislodged on machines that have had repeated hard drops. This part is independently replaceable though so quite easily fixed by Dyson.

    Hi. Thank you for this comparision Video i found it very helpful to decide which one to buy. I am really considering buying a v8. One additional thing i was wondering is if the v11 acessories, like the torque drive cleaning head, will also fit on the v8 motor and extension. So that i can get the better performing cleaning head but the v8 motor.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, the V11's cleaner head will fit the V8. And while it will improve performance compared to the stock V8 cleaner head, it will not yield the same performance as the V11 simply due to the differences in suction power between the 2 models.

    • @Clove_Parma
      @Clove_Parma 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please be careful doing this, Dyson doesn’t recommend doing so as the head is rated at a different wattage that they v8 battery was not designed for. It may cause additional strain on the battery and cause additional wear over time

    Currently Dyson has REFURBISHED V11 Torque Drive the same price as NEW V8 Absolute. I'm trying to determine which is better for hardwood floors (90% of my house). Is V11's torque head EQUALLY as effective as V8's soft-roller head on hardwood? If so, does V11's head scratch hardwood surface over time?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Performance wise V8 and V11 should be similar for hardwoods, however, you get a longer battery life and so many other features on the V11 that I think going with a refurb V11 is the obvious choice.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Varies by use. Dyson's warranty covers the battery for 2 years.
      I would say in general 3-5 years seems to be pretty common based on what we've experienced and heard others experiencing.
      We have the V6, 7, 8, 10, and 11.
      Our V6 battery died within 2.5 years.
      V7 battery is still going strong at 3.5 years.
      V8 battery died at 2.5 years, but I think it died because I dropped it off a counter while testing it.
      V10 battery still going strong at 2.5 years.
      V11 battery still going strong at 1.5 years.
      Replacement is pretty easy. You just need a screw driver. Takes about 2 minutes. Unscrew it, battery falls out, pop in a new one. You can find replacement batteries here - amzn.to/3eilNil

    In my opinion, Dyson ruined the V8 and others with that extended swivel neck that is now attached to the roller/head. This prevents 'side vacuuming' in odd or narrow spaces as the 'neck' now needs to fit into these spaces along with the head/roller. It also creates this awkward navigation on certain floors and spaces as demonstrated in this video. I wish it was designed to use it the old way with a push of a button or position click. A downgrade for people with lots of furniture or small spaces.
    Also, the V8 does not have a removable battery, therefore it's non-replaceable. I don't know why this is almost never mentioned in review and comparison videos. Anyone whose ever owned a Dyson knows that the vacuum will usually outlive the battery. If the battery is not replaceable, do you just toss the vacuum? I replaced my 2016's battery twice and just gave this old but still chugging Dyson to a family member.
    Lastly, there should be an option to have the trigger hold in an on position as the new V8's design causes rapid hand fatigue as the plastic below the trigger digs into the hand.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For the record, the V8 battery is removable and replacable. It's not a click in / click out battery, but you can remove it in about 60 seconds with a screw driver.
